I used PyNeighborhood under Ubuntu (Feisty) without sudo. Every mounting failts. I got only a very short error message :(
If i used sudo, everythings seems to work fine.

It is not a bug. On Ubuntu after installing you should run
sudo chmod +s /usr/bin/smbmnt sudo chmod +s /usr/bin/smbumount
In fact it's partially my fault - I didn't created proper documentation, though I've mentioned a good howto about pyNeigborhood usage in the news: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=669284
