Hello,
currently my production ]po[ installation has most ACS packages of 5.9.0 version and some v. 5.9.1 (some packages are with significantly lower version numbers as 0.*, 1.*, 2.*).
All ]po[ packages are of 5.0.3.0.0 version.
/acs-admin/apm/packages-install shows even more ACS packages of v. 5.9.1 and many ]po[ packages of v. 5.0.4.0.0 as upgrade or install proposals.
Is it safe to upgrade these packages through Packages Install?
Is a general upgrade using cvs-update less risky?
What is the general rule of thumb for ]po[ upgrading?
Thanks. Antanas

In addition there are some unmet dependencies :
ACS Localization 5.9.1 acs-lang Requires: ref-timezones 5.9.1, ref-countries 5.9.1, ref-language 5.9.1
ACS Subsite 5.9.1 acs-subsite Requires: acs-lang 5.9.1
Is it safe to install these from the https://openacs.org/projects/openacs/download/ ?
Hi Antanas,
In the Home page, the system has an "System Updates" portlet.
Whenver there is a message to run an upgrade script, please do so.
Please perform a backup before, then you are ultra-safe.
This is not "upgrading".
Upgrading is when you update the ]po[ source code.
For decisions on upgrading, please check the "News" section on SourceForge or check the ]project-open[ group on LinkedIn.
We will soon announce the upgrade to ]po[ V5.1.
Bests
Frank
Hi Frank,
sorry for messing up "update" and "upgrade". In both situations I have "update" in mind.
I'm following exactly this one and hit the unmet dependency problem mentioned in my previous post. The dependency can not be resolved if I use ]po[ sources only. The required packages exist in the https://openacs.org/projects/openacs/download/ . Is it reasonable to install these from there?
Hi!
Sorry, I didn't 100% understand the issue then.
Yes, you can update, and you can use the "force" checkbox to do so.
Cheers
Frank
Hi Frank,
thanks, packages' updating with "force" seems went smoothly
