I installed the pptp rpm 1.1.3-2. I did not require MS-Chapv2 or encryption. So i did not patch my kernel or ppp source. However I did update my ppp to 2.4.1-3. This is on a red hat 7.3 with 2.4.19 kernel installed. I am able to connect to my linux box that is running pptp with no problems. The wins and dns settings are passed to the client fine. I can even map out directories on the win2k server that is behind the linux box. If i try and copy files, or run installs from the shares that are mapped across vpn tunnel, they are god aweful slow.. The vpn server is on a 750K line (half a t1) and the client is on a ADSL (1.5M/down and 128K/up). If I use pcAnywhere, the connection is fine. and actually fairly fast. Even file transfers ok.. Is there a way to make it faster? The server specs are Intel p3 733mhz with 256MB RAM. Its also has a firewall and web proxy software installed, but currently the firewall is open and only being used for NAT and the proxy isnt being used yet while we test out the VPN.. Are people just dealing with it being this slow? How can i speed it up so that its usable? Thanks for your help.. Jayson |
