    Did you install the Eclipse v4.x plugin on top of an existing v3.x installation? The preference settings are not compatible for this major upgrade.

    Hi,
    could you check if this is still a problem with the eclipse plugin version released just now?

    -> https://sourceforge.net/projects/pmd/files/pmd-eclipse/update-site/

    Thanks,
    Andreas

    Hi Andreas,

    the issue still exists.
    I am running 4.3.1 / Kepler with PMD Plugin 4.0.2-20131031-1124

    1) I have changed the settings in the project from:

    • use local rules
      to
    • use the ruleset configured in a project file

    2) I clicked on okay and I get the question:
    The project doesn't contain a ruleset file. Do you want to create a ruleset file on the configured....
    => yes

    3) "PMD config changed, rebuild?"
    => yes

    The next time I open the project properties I will get the reported error.

    Hint:
    The rules fileset is not in the same project, It is outside the java-projects in an own folder on the dir-level of the other folders.
    But the same error occur on storing the ruleset file on /tmp/dummyruleset.xml
