PLplot-5.15.0 is the latest release of PLplot. This cross-platform software package is suitable for creating scientific plots whose (UTF-8) plot symbols and text (in virtually all human languages and scripts) are limited in practice only by what Unicode-aware system fonts are installed on a user's computer. This is the latest stable release of PLplot. We encourage all users to upgrade to this version which is the only version we support. It represents the ongoing efforts of the community to improve the PLplot plotting package which is almost entirely licensed under the LGPL. We expect to make several of these releases a year, and the planned next stable release should have a version number of 5.11.0.... read more

PLplot (see http://plplot.sourceforge.net\) is a cross-platform software package for creating scientific plots that has been in continuous development since its inception 17 years ago. On May 23, 2009 the PLplot developers quietly celebrated our ten thousandth commit since our initial software repository was populated back in May 1992.

This longevity puts PLplot in some select company amongst open-source software projects. We may even be unique within this group because all PLplot development has been done by volunteers in their spare time.... read more

This news item is to warn users OS-X & Aquaterm users that we have found a problem building 5.9.3 on this platform. We plan to release 5.9.4 by May 11 to solve this problem. If you would still like to try 5.9.3 we recommend following the instructions here for correcting the build error:

Warning: This release does not contain the deprecated autotools build system (i.e. ./configure won't work). As this system is deprecated we encourage users to migrate to the new cmake build system. However, this removal was accidental and the autotools build system will be available in future releases (at least for a while).
