Must be called before plinit(). plqt.cpp is the source code for the plplotqt library (see bindings/qt_gui/CMakeLists.txt). So it appears from your error message that you are not linking properly to that library. The usual build-tree linking issue for Windows is you have not put the dll subdirectory of the top-level build-tree directory on your PATH where that library and many other PLplot libraries are collected in the Windows case for convenience. So please try doing that to see if that fixes the issue. Alan __________________________ Alan W. Alan: I got this solved by replacing in the CMakeLists file: plplot${LIB_TAG} with exactly: C:\build-plplot\dll\Debug\plplotd The library was necessary to be actually "plplotd.dll" and the exact path to it without ${LIB_TAG} ending provided the correct change. Thanks to Arjen for previously providing that plplot.lib should be correctly plplotd.lib. Kouros K. Bina >________________________________ > From: Alan W. Hi Kouros: Please follow our request to ask all questions on list! That allows others to benefit from the discussion and/or help you further. It appears you are concerned about linking your own applications to the installed PLplot libraries. To help answer that concern you should note there are two build systems. The first build system (the one you have been using) is used to build and install PLplot. After that build and install is completed for the first build system, you should notice a CMakeLists.txt file installed in $prefix/share/plplot5.9.9/examples where $prefix is your installed prefix. That CMakeLists.txt file is the core of a second build system which is used to build the installed examples and link them to the installed PLplot libraries. So builds of your own software should follow what that second build system does. Alan __________________________ Alan W. It's only because Arjen did that when replying to you that I saw your question about a simple example. Here is some help with that question. See http://www.cmake.org/cmake/help/documentation.html for general documentation of CMake and especially the tutorial there which includes many simple examples. In addition do a google search for <cmake windows tutorial MS VS 2010>. You will find many hits there helping you to get started with cmake and MS VS 2010. That knowledge should help you to do each of the tutorial examples (and eventually build PLplot) without issues. Alan __________________________ Alan W. Hi Kouros, you mean you want an example of making just a single program using CMake and the PLplot libraries? Hm, I do not have anything ready, perhaps someone else subscribed to the mailing list has. (I do have a small batch file that will do the trick for gcc, but that is not what you are after) Regards, Arjen On Mon, 2 Sep 2013 16:53:27 -0700 (PDT) Kouros Bina <k_...@ve...> wrote: > Arjen: Is there a simple example of a CMake or else CmakeLists etc. file which shows how to compile just one file using the CMake GUI and possibly opening up MS VS 2010 and building ALL_BUILD? Hello Kouros, hm, I think the problem is that the PATH environment variable does not include the directory that holds the DLLs. You should find the DLLs in a subdirectory "dll" under the directory holding everything. The easiest way to test if it all worked is to copy the contents of the "dll" directory into the "Debug" directory holding the executables for the examples. A more permanent way to do that is to add the full directory to the PATH via the Control Panel/System utility. (Note: there are more possibilities - I am just illustrating how you can proceed) Regards, Arjen On Mon, 2 Sep 2013 02:11:23 -0700 (PDT) Kouros Bina <k_...@ve...> wrote: > Arjen: I ran the Cmake utility again with Visual Studio >10 Win64 generator. Hi Kouros, in addition to what Alan wrote: For the MicroSoft compilers (Visual Studio is a convenient GUI around them) you have, basically, two choices: - Use the suitable Visual Studio generator, apparently "Visual Studio 10 Win64"in your case. This will build a solution file and associated project files. Open the solution in Visual Studio and build the "ALL" project. - Use the "NMake Makefiles" generator, this will produce makefiles, and then you run the nmake utility which will build all the libraries and programs from there on. It is the same procedure as Alan described for the other platforms. (I never use the GUI myself, but I have access to it and should be able to give some basic advise.) Hi Kourous, I think it is important to keep this exchange on the plplot-general list so that is what I have done. More below. On 2013-09-01 03:55-0700 Kouros Bina wrote: > Alan: I used CMake 2.8 GUI and, I added BUILD_TEST is on and jpeg. What does one do after running CMake 2.8 GUI? Also, I determined that my compiler is Visual Studio 10 Win64. I cannot determine what the next step is. I would like to try some of the examples and then make some programs for plotting contour plots from data stored in files. What is done after running CMake 2.8 GUI? The general answer to your question is you run the targets that have been configured by our CMake-based build systems. Those include "all" (to build everything needed for an install) and "install" to install just the essential elements of PLplot that have been built in the build tree to the install tree (but do not install intermediate files that are not used in the final product to make the install tree as compact as possible). Also, for all Unix platforms and some Windows platforms the targets "test_noninteractive" and "test_interactive" are available to test all non-interactive and interactive devices using all our standard PLplot examples in the build tree. Note on Windows those targets are only available if you have MSYS on your PATH since those targets depend on MSYS applications such as bash.exe. Note that although my principal platform is Linux, I also do some command-line testing using the combination of MinGW-4.7.2/MSYS/Wine-1.6. For that combination I use either the "MSYS Makefiles" or "MinGW Makefiles" CMake generator and both work well on the Wine-1.6 version of Windows. I am also assured by others that those two generators give good results for the Microsoft version of Windows as well. For the "MSYS Makefiles" case, I build the targets referred to above by using make all make install make test_noninteractive make test_interactive For the "MinGW Makefiles" case, I remove sh.exe from the PATH but leave the rest of MSYS on the PATH including bash.exe. Then after cmake -G "MinGW Makefiles" .... is run I build the above targets using mingw32-make.exe all etc. The reason why sh.exe must be removed from the PATH is the mingw32-make.exe application changes its interpretation of paths in a way that is not consistent with what CMake has configured if sh.exe is on the PATH. I hope these generalities (which I am forced to use since I don't have access to the compilers you use) will help make what is said in the wiki a bit clearer. To answer your specific question, the source code corresponding to include/plplot.h resides in src/*.c. But to do an actual build of PLplot will require you to follow the CMake-based build rules on our wiki at http://www.miscdebris.net/plplot_wiki/. If you have any trouble with those instructions, don't hesitate to ask further questions here. Alan __________________________ Alan W. Kyle Since no one else seems to have answered, you have 2 options if I've understood what you want : 1 the straightforward way is to clear the plot window by advancing to a new page ( pladv() ) and then redraw the plot - axes etc - with the new point. This may seem tedious and slow but modern computers do it fine. We do time animations of quite complex plots this way and have to slow them down. 2. Before you plot the next point, change the foreground colour to be the same as the background (black I presume in your case) and then replot your first point. This will render it invisible. Then change the colour back to the original foreground one. This could be less satisfactory in a 3d plot because your points may plot on top of an axis so when you obliterate the point you will also obliterate a piece of the axis. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I've just started looking into using plplot for part of a simulation I'm writing. I'm trying to (for now) make a 3D scatter plot that is updated in ~real time. I'm using c++ as the programing language and what I've managed to do so far is: 1. Instantiate an object of the plstream class 2. Select the xwin driver using plsdev 3. call init(), env(), w3d(), box3() to setup the window 4. create 3 doubles, x y and z 5. inside a for loop, ( alter x y z and call poin3() ) to update the plot. This has worked well so far, but I'm having trouble finding a way to remove the previously plotted points. I would like to be able to just see one point, then on the redraw, see it move to another location. What I see now is one point, then two, then three, ect.... Can someone offer some advice on how to accomplish this? Also, if I'm using the wrong tool, or if I'm using an incorrect method of the plstream class I'd love to be corrected! Oops...I just tried a metafile generated from ver 5.6.1 and my old binary from 4.99c exits with the following message: Error: incapable of reading metafile version 2005a. Hello, My previous post substituted the attachment for this text, so I am resending this. I will send the attachment files as another email. I need to be able to view plplot-generated files using the "plrender" command on a Windows-7 PC with Cygwin installed, and I have been trying for a long time. A friend who has been able to successfully make a version of plrender advised me to use the version of plplot "plplot-5.7.3" since apparently plmeta has not been supported for a while and he successfully used this older version. I have been using 5.7.3 but still can't get things to work. My most recent of many attempts has used the cmake command cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=install -DCMAKE_C_COMPILER=/bin/gcc-3.exe -DCMAKE_VERBOSE_MAKEFILE=ON \ > -DDEFAULT_NO_DEVICES=ON -DPLD_plmeta=ON -DPLD_pdf=ON -DPLD_PS=ON -DDEFAULT_NO_BINDINGS=ON \ > -DENABLE_CXX=ON .. >& cmake.out and then make >& make.out and it has multiple unsatisfied references in the make output. I am attaching the cmake.out and make.out files. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me what I need to do. Thanks. Chris L. |
