I've got the announcement about plplot-5.2.0 release. First of all, many thanks to maintainers for such a nice software. May I ask a question? Does the tar file of release differ from the today's cvs tree? The problem is that I'm not able to build the plplot from cvs. First I tried through ./bootstrap and have the following warnings ""ls: libltdl/*: No such file or directory WARNING: Using auxiliary files such as `acconfig.h', `config.h.bot' WARNING: and `config.h.top', to define templates for `config.h.in' WARNING: is deprecated and discouraged. WARNING: Using the third argument of `AC_DEFINE' and WARNING: `AC_DEFINE_UNQUOTED' allows to define a template without WARNING: `acconfig.h': WARNING: AC_DEFINE([NEED_MAIN], 1, WARNING: [Define if a function `main' is needed.]) WARNING: More sophisticated templates can also be produced, see the WARNING: documentation."" After ./configure and make I've get ""Making all in libltdl make[1]: Entering directory `/home/soft/RPM/BUILD/plplot-5.2.0/libltdl' make[1]: *** No rule to make target `all'. Stop. make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/soft/RPM/BUILD/plplot-5.2.0/libltdl' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1"" Next I tried to cook a different configure script in dir cf via typing autoconf. After reconfiguration the buildings stops with the following errors "gcc -c -O -I. -MD -MF .d.pdfutils -MP -c pdfutils.c -o pdfutils.o pdfutils.c:30:21: plplotP.h: No such file or directory pdfutils.c:33: parse error before '*' token pdfutils.c:57: parse error before '*' token pdfutils.c: In function `pdf_fopen': pdfutils.c:60: `PDFstrm' undeclared (first use in this function) etc" The problem here that configure script does not make the rigth path to the include files. I'm working with ALTLinux distribution, autoconf-2.2.57, gcc-3.2.1, kernel-2.4.20. I have no such a problem with 5.1.0 version. rgds, v |

This is a quick announcement of the PLplot-5.2.0 release that has just occurred. The official announcement will come later this week when I will have more time to write it. Find the new release at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2915. There is a PLplot-5.2.0 tarball as well as RH7.3 source and binary rpms for PLplot-5.2.0 there. There have been paradigm shifts in our library organization and in our Linux/Unix configuration system which is now generated using autotools. So please hammer on PLplot-5.2.0 for as many Unix/Linux platforms as you have access to with the usual configure; make; make install. The best way to test is to cd $prefix/lib/plplot5.2.0/examples, execute make in each of the c, c++, f77, and tk subdirectories, then execute plplot-test.sh. "Works for me!" type reports with a clear description of your platform are most welcome. Of course, if you have problems please report back to plplot-devel with the detailed results of configure, make, and make install commands (and of course the description of your platform), and we will try to sort out what the problem is. There are bound to be some teething troubles with paradigm shifts like these, but PLplot-5.2.0 has been extensively tested on Linux systems and works well for them. Configuration systems built with autotools are designed to be platform-neutral so there is also good potential to be able to build and run PLplot-5.2.0 on a wide variety of other Unix platforms as well. So try it and see! To motivate you to try this new release, I should mention that the python and java interfaces to PLplot are now much more complete (thanks to swig). Also have a look at our new screenshots on http://plplot.sourceforge.net/examples/index.html (especially examples 8 and 11) to see what treats are in store for you. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our developers for their effort over the last year. That effort has just culminated in PLplot-5.2.0 which is the best version yet! Sorry, my last msg was nonsense. You will need to rebuild the Plplotter package for tcl-tk, using the makefile.vc in sys/win-tk. You will also need to edit the plDevs.h file in that directory to enable the drivers you want (jpeg), and you will need to make sure any additional libraries and header files needed by that driver are accessible. Only then can you do what I suggested in my previous email. [NB: I just committed a fixed makefile.vc to cvs] cheers, -- Vince <http://www.santafe.edu/~vince> |

I believe that version already comes with jpeg support in its 'gd' library, and (assuming you downloaded the binary from my web page) it is compiled in. You can test this with: package require Plplotter plframe .p pack .p .p cmd plsdev jpeg which should not throw an error. Assuming this is the case, you can use whatever standard Plplot functions you like, or edit the .tcl scripts which come with Plplot to provide a more seamless menu-based saving of jpegs. cheers, -- Vince <http://www.santafe.edu/~vince> On Fri, 20 Dec 2002, Pankaj Laddha wrote: > Hi, > > I am using PLplot 5.1.0 along with tcl-tk on windows NT. Hi, I am using PLplot 5.1.0 along with tcl-tk on windows NT. I want PLplot to support jpeg format as one of its File output device format as mentioned in the user document. I tried my luck by browsing on plplot mailing list to figure out how can this be done but without much success? Can anyone help me with the procedure to rebuild Plplot on windows NT? I would like to use Plplot with JPEG format support with tcl-tk as development language. Thanks. Pankaj. |

Hi I could obtain the world co-ordinates if I use plframe . However if I = use Plplotwin object, I am not able to obtain these values, the reason is that I am not able = to correctly bind=20 the Plplotwin object. =20 for example, in this code: =20 =20 bind .p <Button-1> {=20 get_coords %x %y=20 } proc get_coords {g h} { =20 update puts "world coordinates: [.p report wc $g $h]" } If .p is a plframe object it works but not if it is a Plplotwin object. = The "report" option is giving the=20 'bad option' error. Could you please suggest any work around for this. =20 -Rayal =20 =20 =20 |

Hi Joao, Thanks a lot for the reply. I have successfully built the example x17c( x17c.cpp) and studied its behavior. In this sample, when the values of plot points crosses Ymax and/or Xmax, the plots are shrinked to fit in the existing viewport. My requirement is, When the plot points crosses YMax and or XMax values. Instead of shrinking the plot to accommodate the new points in the same viewport, I would like to add a scroll bar, using which the user can scroll the view. This would enable the user to see previous points which are gone out of the view. Can share any idea how this can be done ? Thanks for any thoughts on this. regards, Piyush L. > On Monday 16 December 2002 14:12, Piyush Laddha wrote: > > Hi, > > > > I am using Plplot 5.1.0 and tcl/tk 8.4 on Windows NT. I believe the 'Plplotwin' megawidget already has scrollbar and scrolling functionality which is automatically activated when needed --- when you zoom into the widget (e.g. press 'z' and zoom in, or this can be done manually). -- Vince <http://www.santafe.edu/~vince> On Fri, 13 Dec 2002, Rayal wrote: > Hi > > Can anybody suggest a way for incorporating scroll-bar functioanlity in a Plplotwin object. > > Actually I was getting "unknown option -xscroll" error for the following Tcl code: > > package require Plplotter > Plplotwin .p > > grid rowconfigure . 0 -weight 1 > grid columnconfigure . 5 -weight 1 > grid .p -column 0 -row 0 -columnspan 10 -sticky news > > > button .bexit -text "Quit" -command exit > button .bshell -text "Shell" -command "console show" > set buttons [list .bexit .bshell] > > if {[llength $buttons]} { > eval grid $buttons -sticky ne > } > > scrollbar .p.vscroll -orient vertical -command {.p yview} > grid .p.vscroll -column 1 -row 1 -sticky ns > > scrollbar .p.hscroll -orient horizontal -command {.p xview} > grid .p.hscroll -sticky "esw" > .p config -xscroll {.p.hscroll set} > .p config -yscroll {.p.vscroll set} > > I am working on Tcl-Tk 8.4 with Plplot5.1.0 library on NT. > Any help on this is most welcome. > > > -Rayal. > > > > |

Hi Can anybody suggest a way for incorporating scroll-bar functioanlity in = a Plplotwin object. Actually I was getting "unknown option -xscroll" error for the = following Tcl code: package require Plplotter Plplotwin .p grid rowconfigure . 0 -weight 1 grid columnconfigure . 5 -weight 1 grid .p -column 0 -row 0 -columnspan 10 -sticky news button .bexit -text "Quit" -command exit button .bshell -text "Shell" -command "console show" set buttons [list .bexit .bshell] if {[llength $buttons]} { eval grid $buttons -sticky ne } scrollbar .p.vscroll -orient vertical -command {.p yview} grid .p.vscroll -column 1 -row 1 -sticky ns=20 scrollbar .p.hscroll -orient horizontal -command {.p xview}=20 grid .p.hscroll -sticky "esw" .p config -xscroll {.p.hscroll set} .p config -yscroll {.p.vscroll set} I am working on Tcl-Tk 8.4 with Plplot5.1.0 library on NT. Any help on this is most welcome. -Rayal. |

It looks like that class vector string is missing: The problem has a simple solution, just type the following in the plplot=20 'tmp' directory when "make" gives the error: sed 's/ string / std::string /' plplot_octave.cc > po mv po plplot_octave.cc Don't forget the spaces in the sed command, just copy/paste the above and then resume the make. I have done it with the current cvs tree and=20 plplot_octave compiled and runs OK. However, you will find that plplot_octave gives some warnings with=20 octave-2.1.40. Thanks, Joao |
