Rafael's recent tarball was built with the following (Debian) versions of the Autotools: autoconf 2.59 automake 1.8.4 libtool 1.5.6 Just now I tried the corresponding (and latest) autotools versions at http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/autoconf/, http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/automake/, and http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/libtool/. cf/bootstrap.sh, the usual build and install, and the usual build of the installed examples executables and the build of the example plots all went fine without obvious errors on my Debian stable system. Thus, I strongly advise all our developers to update to the above versions of autoconf, automake, and libtool from the gnu sites above. They might not be quite identical to what Rafael used to generate the tarball (Debian sometimes applies patches), but they must be close (since they are the latest versions so there is not much for Debian to patch), and they work, and it is best for developers to use versions of the autotools that are as similar as possible. BTW, it is great to see PLplot working without obvious problems for the latest versions of the autotools (at least on the Linux platform, but I hope we soon get good reports for other platforms as well), and I want to publically thank Rafael for keeping us so nicely up to date.
