Rafael, I haven't yet quite figured out what the bashism is in this case, but I am not surprised you found one; there were plenty I removed myself from the swig project original of this file. Please get rid of it and any others you find. Once Arjen confirms the revised version works for the default IRIX shell, then we can considerably simplify the IRIX documentation in INSTALL.
