After digging through the MRICP 2.0 folder I found stage_test folder which is now included in the standard player install. However when I run it I get a bunch of errors because apparently the example is for an older version and has dated syntax. Using stage-3.2.1 and Player 3.0.2 I read this link : http://www-users.cs.york.ac.uk/jowen/player/playerstage-manual-update.html and discovered that I needed to alter the pose and size and I went ahead and changed that but now it cannot find the mricp driver. I went in and reinstalled player by unpacking the tar file, mkdir build, ccmake (and setting pythonc bindings to off) and then cmake ../, make , sudo make install And this time the output for cmake does say mricp installed in it. s@ubuntu:~/player-3.0.2/build$ cmake ../ -- Player version 3.0.2 -- Operating system is Linux -- Got System Processor x86_64 -- Linux x86_64 Detected -- Player will be installed to /usr/local -- Player libraries will be in lib64 -- Large file support is disabled. -- ===== Client Libraries ===== -- Python bindings for C client library will not be built - It looks like you installed Player 3.0.0 a while ago and forgot to uninstall it. Having two versions of Player installed on your system could be the source of your issues. Uninstall both copies and re-install only the version you want to use. If you need to keep both versions around for some reason, install both versions somewhere out of the way (in your home directory or something), and set PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH so that the local installation directories are resolved. So how do I uninstall the previous versions ? clean uninstall ? I also seem to have two installations of linux on my windows machine. When I logon I get two sets of "linux version..." and "linux version .... (recovery mode)". Could this be causing it ? When I go under add remove programs I see only one Ubuntu installation (the same thing when I go through cc cleaner uninstall utility). sorry I just googled that and found out that I could uninstall it using sudo make uninstall (just got a little carried away because this seems to be a chronic issue - the installation itself is taking months!) Ok I got mricp to work (sort of) by removing 3.0.2 (uninstalling it) and then re-installing 3.0 instead (the older version that I had earlier). Now the mricp example "works" as in that the driver is listed in the list of available drivers when I type player. Still no working example. When I try to run Chliveros' example I get an inaccurate map (to say the least). I have gone through the forums by the author of mricp but have not found a WORKING example yet. I understand ICP (have read publications and books) and I would like to avoid having to "tweak" these myriads of parameters just to see a first working example (and proceed from there). Nonetheless I will try but if anyone has such an example I would appreciate it (I thought the example you gave me would give a working map). Thank you for recommending the book from the Israeli prof. it had a 2 page description of ICP though. I recall now that I covered svd based optical flow techniques in Computer vision already and this is very similar but anyone who didnt know ICP would have a difficult time understanding it due to the seeming lack of proper textbooks. Amazing thing is there are a million Comp. Vision textbooks and none of them are combine both "good pedagogy" and "depth" and breadth.
