It means that the application (in this case, player) was unable to open a window with the X server. Common causes include: - The DISPLAY environment variable is set incorrectly. If set, that variable should point the correct X server (if you're running player locally, DISPLAY should be ":0.0"). - You don't have permission to pop a window on the given X server. If you're running player from a remote machine, use xhost to grant display permission to the remote machine. - You're not running an X server. In that case, start one. brian. -- Brian P.
