As far as I am aware there is no camera driver that will read from remote images, however it would not be a particularly hard driver to write, particularly as you are already familiar with whats involved in writing a player driver. So I would recommend writing a driver that fetches the images using http gets and then publishes them using the player camera interface. This will allow you to use the existing player image processing drivers. You may already be aware of this, but performance of colour extraction on jpeg images will not be very accurate given jpeg compression compresses colour infomation much more aggressively than intensity detail.
