To see the extension... on the top bar of the window click tools/ folder options.. under "view" theres a box to hide file extensions, un check that I haven't managed to re archive the resource folder yet, 7zip won't do it :/ jfcwilson wrote: > > Hi all, > > Thanks, everyone. Hi all, Thanks, everyone. I can now acsess Pipmak Resources.zip. However, I appear to have another problem. I wanted to access pipmak resources.zip so that I could edit defaults.lua(to be exact, I wanted to remove or comment the onkeydown function concerned with the esc key, so that I could define it in my own game files as going to my own main menu.) I did this secessfully, and saved the lua file. Then I took the previously extracted files(with the edited defaults.lua) and put them into a Zip file, and replaced the previous pipmak resources.zip with it. When I started my project up, I got an error message that said: "Coulden't find "Pipmak Resources.zip". I'm assuming this is because the file has the Zip extension, so I went to remove it, but I couldn't, because the extension wasn't there. I also couldn't remove the extension on the original pipmak resources.zip. Anyone know how to save a Zip file without the extension? I'm running XP, which doesn't actually display the extension, as far as I can tell.....Does anyone understand everything I just typed? I hope so. :) It's rather confusing, even to me, and I wrote it! Hi all, I'm now able to extract the contents to a folder, but when I go into the folder and scroll down, it reboots as soon as it get a few hundred pixels down...It must be a problem on my end, the PC has been acting odd recently. I've been planning to re-install XP because of this. Once I've done so, and restored my backed-up data, I'll let you guys know how it is then. When I do, the computer spontanusly reboots. That sounds like a bug in your ZIP utilities (they shouldn't crash even when you throw invalid files at them), or possibly the way Windows launches them, or some general Windows confusion (file system corruption maybe?). Have you tried opening the file from within the program, instead of double-clicking in Windows Explorer? I have no trouble opening the Pipmak Resources file shipped in pipmak-0.2.7-windows.zip using Archive Utility, The Unarchiver, and Info-ZIP unzip here, so the file seems to be OK. If Pipmak can still use it, it can't be too severely damaged anyway, but have you tried re-downloading it? Hi all, I'm having trouble accessing the "Pipmak Resources.zip" file. When I double click on it, it doesn't recingnize it as a ZIP file for some reason, and so I specify a ZIP utility to open it(I've tried Win-ZIP, 7-ZIP, and UltimateZip). When I do, the computer spontanusly reboots. Any ideas? Thanks, James __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Yes, this was only a test for general animation. The actual applied use is to make it loop, even when the ending and beginning do not match. E.g., I'd start the animation going forward, then backwards, and so on. Handy for things you don't have much control over when animating. So I just slapped together a test project, using renders form another project I'm involved in, Ages of Ilathid. Thanks again, James --- On Fri, 10/2/09, Urs Holzer <ur...@an...> wrote: From: Urs Holzer <ur...@an...> Subject: Re: Playing an image sequence in reverse To: pip...@li... By the way, if you activate the animation like that, then you have to make sure that it is not activated twice. Try clicking multiple times at the image to see what happens. In other words: You have to make sure that the animation can not be activated again while it is already running. However, if I remember correctly, the animation in linking books in Myst starts immediately after opening the book. In other words, the animation is activated automatically and not by the user. If the same is true for your linking books, you don't have the problem I described above. And anyway, don't hesitate to ask more questions. We are happy to answer them. Here's my new code: CODE***************************************************************** cubic { "dummy1024.png", "dummy.png","dummy.png", "dummy.png", "dummy.png", "dummy.png" } local an_linkingBook = patch {face=1, x = 0, y = 0, image = "an_linkingBook/an_linkingBook_0.jpg" } local animpos = 100 hotspotmap "hotspotmap.png" hotspot { onmousedown = function() if animpos == 0 then animpos = 100 else pipmak.schedule( 0.04, function() animpos = math.mod(animpos - 1, 100) an_linkingBook:setimage ("an_linkingBook/an_linkingBook_" .. animpos .. ".jpg") return 0.04 end ) end end } CODE***************************************************************** Does anyone see the problem? I sure can't. According to the Lua 5.0 reference, math.mod just uses the mod operator from ANSI C. If I remember correctly, ANSI C does define the result of it on a negative number as implementation specific, so, depending on the plattform the software runs on, math.mod(-1, 101) could be -1 or 100. By replacing the above line with if animpos < 0 then animpos = 100 end should give what you want. However, because of laziness, I have not tested it! Hi all, Is it possible to use story-board style images to create animation in Pipmak? To elaborate: All the frames of an animation are pasted together and lined up in an image, and saved as a JPEG. The advantage to this would be(I think) that because the frames are in a single file, and therfore encoded together, it would both produce a smaller file and a faster decompression then a normal still image sequence. What I don't understand is how to get it to play back. I was thinking maybe fooling with the margins of a patch? What does everyone think? Thanks, James |

Hi all, I'm trying to run a JPEG image sequence in reverse order, but am running into problems: Code: cubic { "dummy1024.png", "dummy.png","dummy.png", "dummy.png", "dummy.png", "dummy.png" } local anim = patch {face=1, x = 0, y = 0, image = "patches/anim_100.jpg" } local animpos = 100 hotspotmap "hotspotmap.png" hotspot { onmousedown = function() pipmak.schedule( 0.04, function() animpos = math.mod(animpos - 1, 101) anim:setimage ("patches/anim_" .. animpos .. ".jpg") return 0.04 end ) end } This playes it backward, but once it gets to frame "anim_0.jpg", it goes on to output continusly "Cannot find file "anim_-1.jpg" Cannot find file "anim_-2.jpg", and so on. How do I make it loop? Thanks, James |

I want video support as much as anyone, but for now, aren't JPEG sequences fine? Is the problem with the fact that audio can't be streamed directly with it? It's standard practice to stream the audio from a seperate file in games, anyway...Or is it becouse JPEG sequences are somewhat larger then Ogg Theora? That's not much of an issue when you've got DVD-ROMs to work with.... To answer your question simply, because decompression time is crippling. To give a little more detail, video codecs are designed for moving pictures, so they can take into consideration similarities between consecutive frames when encoding, which JPEG can not do, as it only deals with still images. That said, still-image sequences are fine for short, low-res animations like the spinning wheel in the Pipmak demo. --Aidan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. ...and, that did it! Putting that 'for' loop into the inventory node on the enternode handler rather than in main.lua when placing the overlay node did it. When I was imagining how it would work, I pictured it overlaying all those individual things (which I guess I could have done by making a ton of panel nodes, but I should have thought of the inventory node as all its own picture. However, if you still want to show me a better way of doing this, I would not at all be surprised if it could be done far more efficiently than I am in stumbling my way through it. BTW, while I've got you, I wanted to toss you a quick compliment on the reference guide. The writing is very succinct and easy to understand, and the conventions you use for type style to show what things are in the code makes perfect sense, far more than most guides on coding. Well, I'm closing in on it. Based on your advice I put those tables in an enternode handler. Now if I do startnode(99) and use the "i" toggle key, it does arrange the items based on the table of which are true (i.e. which the player has collected). However, when I try to do that while on some other dummy node I created the pipmak window simply vanishes and I'm booted out of the system. I'm going to try putting that arrangement code in 99 rather than main, which I believe is what your suggestion is, and cross me fingers. ~Matt -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/My-code-is-crashing-pipmak%2C-but-why--tp25372235p25385613.html Sent from the pipmak-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

However, that for loop keeps crashing pipmak the > moment I hit the "i" button. Quick answer before I have time to actually test your code or show you a better solution: You can't store the patch objects from node 99 in global variables and use them before node 99 is entered or after node 99 is left. These objects are (re-)created when their node is entered and are only valid as long as the node is displayed. Arranging the patches should be done in an onenternode handler of node 99 (or create them at the correct location in the first place). That said, any possibility to crash Pipmak using Lua scripting is a bug and I will look into it. Thanks for the report. -Christian |
