I've been trying to get rid of that ^M hanging around on the tools but dos2unix doesn't seem to work .. or maybe I'm doing it wrong? .. hmm Anyways, is there an alternative to pilot-db-tools? preferably in X (gui) for linux. Thanks, Elijah |

Running totals can all be done using scripts. Mileage, hours materials, etc, should all be do-able with a proper db schema. -Scott |

Just to let you know about a workaround: The address book plugin worked fine with the older versions. With 1.1.0b my Palm did a reset every time I tried to open the addressdb. I deinstalled all plugins (I had installed >all< plugins that came with 1.1.0b) and only reinstalled db-db2, db-memoexport, db-addressdb and db-informations. No fatal errors yet. Guido |

Hi all, When I sort a DB by tapping on a column header, I often get a crash/reset. When I reopen the DB after the crash, the list has been sorted! More info: I'm using very small databases (5-10 fields, 5-10 records). I'm using Pilot-DB 1.0.3 I can't quote the error message here as I can't reproduce the error right now. Does anybody have the problem? Any idea what's wrong? Ben |

I have been using Pilot-db (version 1.0.1) for about a year now. I just recently downloaded some MobileDB databases. I came this site and got the plug-in for MobileDB. When I try to open a database that was designed for MobileDB, I get a fatal error of Fata Exception and that I must reset my Visor. I tried upgrading to version 1.0.3 of Pilot-db, but I still get the same results. Did I do something wrong? What can I do to fix this? Thank you for your help, Ken |

Hi Mike, From my understanding, there isn't ONE edit view. The "Use this view to edit a record" check box will specify that if you create a record while in this view, it will use this view (i.e. the field definition and order) to enter data, instead of showing you a list of all the fields in their default order. For example: - for records of type T1, you only need fields F1, F3, F5, and F4, and you show them in this order. - you define a view called T1, in which you show those four fields and only them, in this order. - when you want to create/edit a T1 record, you switch to the T1 view, and create/edit your record. You will only see those four fields, in the order defined. - in the record creation/edition form, you still have an "All" button in the upper-right corner that gives you the possibility to toggle between the T1 and the "All fields" views. I hope this is all corect, makes sense, and helps. Ben ------------------- Message: 1 Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2003 16:12:30 -0600 To: pil...@li... From: Mike Meyer <mw...@mi...> Subject: [pilot-db-list] View when editing new record in db1.1b2 The view used when a new record is created is the "all fields" view. Shouldn't it use the view used for editing records? I set up the edit view to not include linked and calculated fields, as they just get in the way. That's equally true on a new record as on one being edited. The view used when a new record is created is the "all fields" view. Shouldn't it use the view used for editing records? I set up the edit view to not include linked and calculated fields, as they just get in the way. That's equally true on a new record as on one being edited. OK, I've got the Sony version of the Simulator running on one of my Windoze boxes. Much easier to get going than POSE was since there was no messy acquiring of ROM images. Just unzip and run. If you want to test any alpha level code let me know. I don't have a build environment so I'd have to prevail on you to get a PRC image to me. --Hal |

I've looked for the answer in the documentation but couldn't find it. Is it possible to filter the entries depending on the value of a boolean field? If so, what do you have to put in the search field? Emmanuel |

Since I've got a shiny new CLIE NX-60 (PalmOS 5) I'd love to see Hi-Res support. The tiny fonts are surprisingly readable and greatly help with getting more info on the screen. And of course, I'd like to see High Res+ support (support for the extra screen area that the 320x480 screen gives you). From a miniscule amount of reading it appears that Palm came out with a "High Density" API which they use in the Tungsten T. So for their PalmOS 5 devices, Sony has dropped their own High Res library and use the High Density API. So the bad news is to support all Sony high res devices you'll have to deal with two different APIs. The semi-good news is that using the High Density API should give you both Sony NX (and later NZ) series support as well as Palm Tungsten. I've got both Windoze and Linux machines. This is probably old behavior, but it's very annoying. When there is a view selected for editing a record, viewing a record goes to that view in the list mode as well. Since my database has many calculated fielsd (now working - thanks, Scott!) that aren't in the edit view, this is annoying. Actually, I think we need four distinguished views. There's one for the list view, one for viewing a record, one for editing a record - which isn't the same as the one for viewing a record, and one for selecting a record being linked to, which currently just uses the "all fields" record with the default widths. I plan on making my databases available in the near future. That may make these points clearer. <mike -- Mike Meyer <mw...@mi...> http://www.mired.org/consulting.html Independent WWW/Perforce/FreeBSD/Unix consultant, email for more information. |

Thanks for the feedback on db 1.1 Beta 1. I have made a significant number of bug fixes, and minor enhancements, and have released the second beta version on sourceforge. Please let me know what your experience is. Sony Clie users, as you have noticed, HiRes support no longer exists in DB 1.1. I am trying to learn more as to how difficult it will be to put Clie support back into 1.1. If you have strong feelings either way about this, I would appreciate a letter. Also, since I do all my development on a linux box, my access to a sony emulator is very restricted, so let me know if you would be willing to test out alpha versions). -Scott |

Currently, scripts cannot access the values of link fields and linked fields. When used in arithmetic expressions, the script dialog refuses the references, saying something like: "bad arguments for *" When a link or linked field is cast to int, the value returned is some large number, presumably a pointer of some sort. I think this would be a very useful feature to add. Michael -- Michael Graham ma...@th... |
