I poked around and the simple things are stopping me. I added some extra entries to some lists and changed the C code and changed the rcp to reflect these changes but am now getting a "Form.c, Line:1272, Object not in form - Reset" and I have no idea why, where, how to squash it? I am adding: * Scroll by 5 lines/0.5 page instead of by-line or by-page * Persistent caps-lock (by default, low case if desired) * Entry of date - the current REALLY blows when, say, one wants to enter the DOB (Date of Birth) of a 85 year old... Try it - you have to hit "<" about 80 times... dumb. So my idea is to "enter now", "enter 1950s", "enter 1920s", "none"... and feed the year to the system function as default. * Beating it until it accepts more than one memo per db entry. If I can't do this, I'll unsubsribe and delete any trace of this program - it's critical to my apps. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Hi i have been using your database for palms, it works good, congratulations. But i saw a strange behaviour when i have the list of my databases i click the db icon and i select 'info', the i select the private checkbox and the database is masked by the palm according with my selections, when i try to access to the database again it ask me for my password i type it and i access the database i return to my db list and is when the problem appears, the db is unmasked everyone can access my info, i check my options in the private icon and the option 'Current Privacy' is turned to Show Records, i have used other programs that have the private option and them don't change my security options... I want to create a field which is the result of concatenating 2 existing fields. However, when I try to do this using a calculated field, the resulting field only shows the first 3 characters of the result. e.g. Field0 Pref String Field1 Index String Field3 Locator Calculated script: (cat %0 %1) When Pref=CD and Index=1001, Locator displays: CD1: and not CD1001. Whatever values I put in Pref and Index, I only ever get 3 characters in the calculated field. Does anyone know what is going wrong here? (BTW I'm using DB v.1.1.0B on a Palm IIIxe.) I just installed pilot-DB v. 1.1.0B1 (17 Dec 02) on a Handspring Visor Neo running PalmOS v. 3.5.2H3.0. I also installed all the available plugins (except "example"). 1. I am able to open DBs of type/creator Mdb1/Mdb1 with no problem. 2. DBs of type/creator DB00/DBOS appear on the DB list, but I get message "Error: Unable to Open Database" 3. DBs of type/creator JfDb/JFil and JfD5/JFi5 don't even appear on the DB list. I couldn't find this problem addressed in the documentation or in the mailing list archives. Seem like there's a lot of sloppy coding and not much quality control on this project. Here are the changes I made to get it to compile (sorry it's not in the form of a patch...). Didn't do me any good; I still can't get Pilot-DB to read databases generated by csv2pdb, and the pre-built DOS csv2pdb doesn't work either. (see below for my test cases). To build under UNIX (Mac OS X 10.2 in my case:) 1. All files in the tarball have lines ending in CR-LF (an MS-DOS-ism) which seems to cause problems on some unices (like OSX). I stripped out the trailing ^M's of all the files with a simple script, something like: #!/bin/sh for f in `find . -type f -print` ; do tr -d '\015' <$f > foo mv foo $f done 2. I also had to "chmod +x configure config.sub". That let me do a "./configure" and a "make". 3. I had to add #include <time.h> to libsupport/strop.cpp to get rid of "forward declaration of `struct StrOps::tm'" error. 4. I had to fix a lot of comparison between signed and unsigned errors: (the -Werror flag they're using forces gcc to treat them as errors -- a good idea, but I don't understand then why there are so many problems with this release!). Basically change the variable declaration to be unsigned instead of int. Also, there were a bunch of scoping problems where variable 'j' was being used outside of its scope (looks like somebody doesn't understand the concept of scope...) libsupport/csvfile.cpp, line 120 libflatfile/Database.cpp, line 146 libflatfile/OldDB.cpp: line 210: get rid of the "int" declaration of j and move it to line 144 (as unsigned) libflatfile/MobileDB.cpp: line 454: move j's declaration to line 363 (as unsigned). libflatfile/ListDB.cpp: line 150 same again; move j's declaration to function scope libflatfile/JFile3.cpp:316 same again With gcc 3.1, I couldn't get it to compile; I got: In file included from clp.cpp:1: clp.h:21: looser throw specifier for `virtual CLP::option_error::~option_error()' clp.h:16: overriding `virtual CLP::parse_error::~parse_error() throw ()' which I'm at a loss to figure out... With gcc 2.95, I got it to compile, but I had to get a version of sstream from: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/libstdc++/2000-q2/msg00700/sstream which I had to edit to typecast the signed/unsigned comparison on line 171: if( buf.size() - rpos != (unsigned) n) ---------------------- After all that, it compiles and runs, but it doesn't WORK! The db generated by csv2pdb isn't able to be read by DB (v1.1b1 db-standard): I get an "Unable to open database." dialog. pdb2csv can read it fine however. Here are my test files: ============= Test.info ============= title "Test" field "Category" string field "Item" string view "Category" "Category" 46 "Item" 30 csvfile "Test.csv" ============= Test.csv ============= "Car","Brush" "Car","Coolers" "Engines","Helmets" "Engines","Oil" "Engines","Gas" "Bike","Clothes" ========================== -- Chris |

Hi again, I've followed the steps in compiling the palm-db-tools for my palmm100 but it just won't compile. It gives me errors of bad interpreters, $UNAME errors, etc. Someone just replied to the last messages that those tarballs doesn't work (?). I love db, but ever since I left windows and am now using linux I was never able to convert a thing and haven't update my databases ever since the tarball is not working for compile. Can I request to anyone who successfully compiled the tools (csv2pdb, pdb2csv, etc.) from linux to send me a copy? will it work on my linux box? ... pretty please? des...@so... Hi, I'm not a programmer, but I've been using Pilot-DB for a while and I think its great. I use it on my m500 and I'm currently using DB v. 1.1.0B1 17 DEC 2002. I quite frequently get an unfriendly "MemoryMgr.c, line 3061 Chunk over-locked" lock-up when exiting a database using the little door icon, or when hitting the HOME button on the pilot to exit the program. I found the bit quoted below in which someone was getting the same error and had asked for help using google. Is this a known issue? Should I go crawl back into the dark cave from which non-participating low-life users like me are spawned? This breaks all the configure/make stuff. (This is what's causing the problem above.) Some scripts are not executable (most notably, configure). The file gui/q/Makefile.in is missing. ... and probably more. That's as far as I got before I got fed up and did a rm -rf ... /pem |

I have DB 1.0.3 installed on a Palm Tungsten T running PalmOS 5.0. It seems to work ok, apart from the following bugs and problems I've encountered (so far): -- Sending to VersaMail doesn't work. When sending a database to VersaMail. After getting the alert about it not being sent immediately (and checking don't warn me again), I get: Fatal Alert StringMgr.c, Line:72, NULL string passed (Then reset is the only option) The mail did not end up in the outbox. (And yes, VersaMail works fine otherwise, I use it to send/read email through my T68 with bluetooth. :) -- The TT's select/navigator button doesn't work In the database listing, you can't use the TT's select/navigator button to select and open a database. In an open database, pressing select/up/down/left/right seems to get some kind of response; the screen flickers, but with no useful result (that is, the screen remains the same after the flicker). -- Databases from sourceforge don't work I installed the Elements and TLD databases from sourceforge. Both appear in the database listing, but neither could be opened. (It pops up an alert saying "error when opening..." or "failed to open..." or something like that.) This made me suspect that they maybe were in the old format, which brought me to the next problem... -- Plugins cause resets After installing the DB2, JFile3, and MobileDB plugins, the program becomes unstable: Selecting "New" to create a new database pops up the expected dialog, but when looking at the "Type" list, there is a garbage entry following DB and MobileDB, a long string of random characters. (The random characters even change from time to time.) Then attempting to use menus (and other actions, I didn't keep track) causes immediate resets of the Palm. I'm not certain, but I suspect the DB2 plugin. I removed the plugins one by one, and the problem didn't go away until I remove DB2, the last one. -- The memoexport plugin messes up floats The memoexport plugin seems to work in that it does export a record to the Memo Pad. However, float fields end up as "N/A" in the memo. -- On the wishlist: sqrt function Finally, I miss one function in the script language (A+ for using lisp syntax, btw :-), and that's a square root function. /pem |
