Hello! I think I have more ideas for Pilot-DB improvement. I realized them while trying to change my database structure... 1- It would be nice if it is possible to copy textual data from the note field. I would like to split one note field to more string fields and I can't copy&paste... 2- If I export the record with note field to memopad, the field is not exported. I know the record can be bigger than memopad note size, but it would help not only while redesigning the database. Thanks for good work! Noticed today that the Report plug-in (possibly others?) is a modal dialog, and it likely shouldn't be. With the report displaying: Hardware buttons such as the power button are ignored. Worse, the auto-off timer is ignored. Otherwise, still enjoying this version greatly. -Craig Bowers |

Hello, I am new to this list. First, thank you for nice application. I use it not so heavily, e.g. for cooking recipes :-) or radio stations available in my city... It is the only free database available for my Handera! Wow! Now I have some notes on versin 1.1.0b1, they are of low importance, but someone have to tell it :-) - But hey, I still love the app! :-))) 1- On DB list screen, if I tap on database, not whole line is inverted, baseline to bottom of the line stays "black text on white" 2- Most dialogs (e.g. Create Database) have bad dimensions - they have no right and left edges. I think you set the position too left and width too much. But as far as I can see starting curve of the dialog edge, I think it is about 2-3 pixels position and double for the width. 3- The issue with VFS was mentioned in the posting a few hours ago :-) I too think that there should be some directory like /Palm/Programs/DB or PilotDB or whatever do you wish. 4- Filters - I think that "search" is not sufficient for filtering. One would expect more operators, like "is not empty", "is not equal to", "is equal to" etc. I hope for one of the next versions (well, I have to read some todo documents...) 5- Database view, column width: I think the settings doesn't corelate with visible view. Handera has 240px wide screen... and I think (should I check it or is it known bug?) that the visible widths are different. I would consider only relative values - i.e. if I set widths to 1, 5, 3 (3 columns), I will not get pixel widths of 1, 5 and 3, but columns wide in ratio 1:5:3... 6- Record view: reading - I still can change values from "select one value from the dropdown list" columns, although edit lines are read only. I was very confused when I encountered this for the first time :-) 7- Recocr view: note fields - is it possible to show the whole note field possibly with ruler on the side if the text is longer? It would be of a good help for my cooking database, I keep cooking instructions in a note field and I have to click the note icon... This would be *very* nice feature! Anyway, Pilot-DB is very nice application - among the other things it is one of apps with Handera support! Thanks a lot! Thank you Marc for this new release. I'm using DB in HiRes and when I select the biggest font, there is a space between each item in the chooser view. Now in 1.0.4 this seems to be fixed if I open a database and then close it and go back to the chooser, but when I first start DB the chooser still has these spaces between db names. I also used for the first time the VFS pluggin and it seems that if I move a database it goes to the /Palm/Launcher directory. Is this something the user can change? If not I believe /Palm/Programs/DB would be more appropriate. I'm sure enjoying the power and flexibility of the filters, sort, global scripts, calculated fields, et al... But a query for how others might be handling a few issues I'm struggling with. How might one filter out, or filter for records based on empty string fields? Other field types I have no problem with, but I'm not sure what the pilot-db equivalent of null quotes would be. And one can't seem to be able to turn it into an integer with INT and query on a zero or non-zero value, at least at this point with the intended functionality of INT thus far. Does anyone have filter examples for all records where a string field is empty, and for all records where a string field is non-empty? I'd prefer not to have to resort to an extra boolean field just for this purpose. Or an extra non-visible string field than I could perhaps do an SEQ comparison with. Lastly, does anyone have any tricks for determining Field numbers quickly for use in filters and sorts? The only way I see is to pop into the Edit Database Design. If there isn't an easier way that I've been over-looking, I wonder if it might be a useful header in the Sort popup when a field column is tapped on, or maybe an addition to the Report Plugin available from the same pop-up. Am I missing the obvious in these? |

To those few brave soles trying the dbsql tool, it's been udpated again. It now handles bidirectional data movement for all field types. You'll need to recreate your data tables and views with "-Dc". To those who haven't looked at it, it's a tool for copying pilot-db data to and from an SQL database. It's still at <URL: http://www.mired.org:8080/downloads/palm/ >. <mike -- Mike Meyer <mw...@mi...> http://www.mired.org/consulting.html Independent WWW/Perforce/FreeBSD/Unix consultant, email for more information. |

This lets you do some math with linked fields. Perhaps I will try to add some more casting operators for the next version. -Scott |

I believe that calculated field support is not in the db3 vfs plugin in either db-1.1 or db-1.0.x I know that the db3vfs plugin is getting close to 32k in size and adding script support will make it necessary to build it as a multi-segment library (I'm not actually sure if this is possible). For the next release of db-1.1, I plan on adding vfs support directly to db itself (so you won't need a seperate plugin). This will give you access to calculated fields no matter where the database is stored. -Scott > Further detail on VFS calculated field issue with 1.1b2 (and the 1.1b2 > plugins in separate download): > Moving the db to SD causes calculated fields to display unsupported field > type. > Editing attempts to the record can produce this Fatal alert: > > ./ ../ ../src/drivers/db3.c, > Line:940, > DB-PackedRecordSize: > unsupported field type > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: Does your code think in ink? > You could win a Tablet PC.
