The first question: Someone checked in code with that alert. I've done a build without it and will send it to you off-list. Others have also. Checking the archives would have saved you time on that. Hi, folks: I recently upgraded from a Handspring Visor Pro to a Palm Tungsten E. I have Pilot-DB 1.1 and the 1.1 Plug-ins installed. Two questions: 1) On an assortment of MobileDB databases, Pilot-DB pops up an "Experimental Large Database Support" screen. The only thing I can do is tap the Home icon to exit Pilot-DB and open it again. It didn't do this on my old Visor Pro. Is there a way to turn that off? 2) One of the plugins claims support for databases on a VFS volume. I've searched the Pilot-DB website, and the forums, and can't find any documentation. What does it support? How do you get databases on the card? Where does Pilot-DB expect to find them? (I use a card reader for most card-related file chores.) Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom. ______ Dennis |

Hi Didi When I use Pilot-db 1.2.0. And the plugin memoexport 1.2, my treo crash,= but if I use version 1.1.0 and plugin 1.1. 0, my treo works correctly,= perhaps is the same thing for Pose? If possible I'll like that pilot-db works with calculated fields in = memoexport, but perhaps you have not time for this. Unfortunately, I do not have a palm myself, I do all the development on pose, a palm emulator. Sadly, pose crashes when I call the memoexport plugin. This is probably a bug in pilot-db. I am not sure I will have time soon to debug this. Is it very important to you? --=20 Didi |

I changed the headers as needed for the PalmOS 5r3 SDK, added the Hebrew support that Didi contributed, and added Didi's bugfix patch to edit.c. There probably is other stuff that still needs to be done, but it should be testable again. Realize that SF anonymous CVS mirrors have a lag time, and that you might want to use the developers server for access to the current version. --nate |

We just back tracked one version trying to get to a CVS that works, but I haven't put in the fixes to that version that are necessary to make it compile. My life has taken over, and I haven't been able to spend time on this. I have a working version here there (and Didi has given me patches that work also) so I'll really try to get them into CVS quickly. But I'm to tired to do it right tonight, and tomorrow is really busy. So if you can have patience for a few more days, that would be tremendous. Sorry guys, --nate |

Hello. I am new to this mailing list. I have been using Pilot-DB for several months now. And I like it very much. I was just wondering if the new release will support the hi-res+ display of a T3. Especially I would like to be able to switch between landscape and portrait modes. I think it will be very nice for some database list views if I could do that. Thank you so much for developing such a nice piece software. Alex |

I am not sure I understand your question, but if I do, it should be trivial. Make a column for 'meal' and another for 'cost', 'meal' of type 'list' with the options you want and cost of type 'float'. No. You can use "list" field type for that. Not that I know of. I thought about it, and it's probably not hard to do. I would like to know if anyone has any other idea. What I thought of for now is to do it on a PC - that is, every day connect the palm to a PC and run there a program that will scan the DB and set the wanted field to that day's date for each record it's empty (or some other such logic). That's also not easily doable now, if you need things that palm-db-tools do not support. -- Didi |

No problem. I will try to continue by myself. I will be happy to get someone else, with some Java knowledge, interested, though. -- Didi |

Hi all, Nate, First, the CVS seems to be 1.1.0. Congratulations! Are we ready for further development? Second, I attach a small patch which reflects the version I personally work with. It's against 1.1.0, and has two things: One is that it's compilable, with "./configure --enable-standard --enable-debug \ --with-palmos=5r3 --with-sony-incdir=/usr/local/share/palmdev/sony-sdk/Incs \ --with-handera-incdir=/usr/local/share/palmdev/handera-sdk/include". Sadly, the patch changes CFLAGS, something which should probably be done by configure, but since I don't know autoconf etc., I will let you take care of this (will you?). The other change is adding Hebrew support. The actual file iw.rcp is still in <http://www.cs.tau.ac.il/~didi/iw.rcp>, I did not want to attach it because it's quite big. I also have some small other stuff, but will wait until the CVS is stable. Third, I spent quite some time on writing a datascript specification for pilot-db pdb files. You can see my current draft at <http://www.cs.tau.ac.il/~didi/pilot_db.ds>. Even without knowing datascript, you'll agree that it's very readable, and seems very nice to work with, compared to C++ (palm-db-tools). It's not ready, but does contain quite a lot of the details. I do have some problems, and am in contact with datascript's author. Also, I don't know Java, and instead of learning, I found and use XStream, which dumps to XML, which I can read, and is good enough for debugging. Writing useful programs to convert to/from pdb to text files will require some Java, though. Is anyone interested? Or I will have to actually learn Java for this? Tell me what you think. datascript is, in case it wasn't obvious, at datascript.sourceforge.net. -- Didi |

Hello --- I've been busy with other matters for the last couple weeks, but should have a few evenings to spend on pilot-db this weekend. After several iterations with a development release based on the CVS code, we still have some showstopper bugs. After due consideration, I've decided to abandon the current CVS version and revert to code of the previous release. When I started on this, I hadn't realized that the CVS was not actually being used for development, and that the version in there was Scott's personal version and had split off prior to the last release. So in addition to the untested code (which I presumed would include some worthwhile bug fixes) it turns out that the CVS code actually lacks fixes already made in the release code. My immediate plan is to create a CVS branch called "Scott", wipe out all the files in CVS, check in the 1.1.0 release code as the Head, and start making updates from there. If anyone knows of a better way to do a reversion like this with CVS, prompt advice would be appreciated. Thanks, and hoping to move on to actual development shortly, --nate |

Hello, You may want to let us know what version of Pilot-DB you are using. Also, there are 3 main "flavors" of the db app. Light (for greyscale or mono devices,) Mid, and Sony or maybe it was Handera. I think the one you should install is Mid (has color support with appropriate overlay files installed.) Pilot-DB is a useful tool. Keep us informed, we're here to help. I now am using a Visor Prism (color) - when installing any version, I get the message "Fatal Exception" and have to hard reset my Visor. I have an Apple computer running OSX. Please advise.
