Hi, I have aswell tried this database software and consider it very useful. The only thing I miss are import and export functions to and from ASCII-based Text-Files, because as a Mac user I can't use any of the PC converter programs. And importing data from my desktop computer to the Pilot DB on my Visor/Palm would be very useful as I have a lot of data... The reverse action (Palm to Desktop Mac) would also be very useful, e.g. when adding a lot of new data to an existing database. Regards, Bastian Bruninghaus |

Hello, The DB palm pilot utility is great. I've been using MobileDB to keep some databases with me. I think it is as good as MobileDB the only MobileDB features that I miss are 1. Clone record With this an user editing data on the pilot could use an existing similar record to generate much of the new data. and 2. changing records in edit mode Here I mean go to next or previous record Nice to have features that even MobileDB does not have are 3. Regular expressions in find. At least it should be possible to anchor a search lets say with a ^ to the beginning of the field and a $ to the end of the field as in most UNIX programs. With this somebody locking for the start of all records beginning with s could search for ^S and would be there. 4. Boolean finds. record contains a and b in one field record contains a in one field and b in a second field record contains a or b All this features are not critical, so all what I want you to do is, if you have a list with features that should be added to the database put them in this list. If somebody is kind enough to implement them I will be lucky, but if not the database is still useable With kind Regards Klaus Leiss |

The DB palm pilot utility is fantastic. I've been using MobileDB Lite to keep a copy of Palm Bar with me. I recently installed DB and found that it does everything I wanted. Great work, Tom! My only gripe is that I didn't even realise DB did MobileDB files! As near as I could tell it isn't documented on the webpage or inside the README included with the package. Can this be fixed? -- The more I know about the WIN32 API the more I dislike it. It is complex and for the most part poorly designed, inconsistent, and poorly documented. - David Korn |

The DBDatabases.pdb file is the internal database used by the database picker screen to store the category and order that your databases appear in the picker. Set the backup flag on the databases that you want on the desktop by opening them on your PDA. Go to the "Options" menu and pick "DB Preferences". Check the "Backup database at HotSync" flag. Press OK. Run a HotSync. The databases will then be on your desktop system in the backup folder. The files will be named according to the database title. |

I'm new to this list and appologize if this has been asked before. I have currently three databases and they all appear in a single file, DBDatabases.pdb. My question is, how to I get a single database out so I can convert it to a csv file using pdb2csv? I'm using DB 0.3.1. I just created and tested a new mailing list which will receive the log messages that are given to CVS when files changes. This will allow anyone to keep track of the development automatically. It also will allow the log messages to be archived by SourceForge like normal mail. The mailing list is not for normal discussion like this list but rather just exists so people can receive the automated CVS emails. The mailing list is called: pil...@li... If you would like to subscribe, please visit the following Web site for instructions: http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/pilot-db-commits Normal announcements will still happen on this list. The new list is just for developers and other interested people to see how the DB source code changes near to the moment that it is changed. |

Run "pilot-file -v test1.pdb" using the pilot-file program in the pilot-link package and you will see a dump of the records. I'll turn the error into a warning instead and just ignore it in the next version. |

Greetings, In attempting to convert a database modified by the MobileDB v2.1 application, I ran into a problem where I was getting the error message. 'test1.pdb: maximum number of fields exceeded' At the time of the error, the value of field is 20 and the value of getMaxNumOfFields() is 20. Making a small change (below), seems to have worked around the problem for me. (The odd thing with this data is that no record actually has more than 14 fields.) A copy of the test1.pdb to test this one is available via http://www.employees.org/~mdb/mobiledb-data/ as the test1.pdb (55k) file. The next problem I have run into is with a database created directly on the Pam using MobileDB v2.1. The pdb2csv error returned is 'test2.pdb: data record has the wrong number of fields' A copy of the test2.pdb to test this one is available via http://www.employees.org/~mdb/mobiledb-data/ as the test2.pdb (1k) file. I am not sure of the correct fix for the test2.pdb case. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing about them. Hi, In the main record list view in db there seems to be a few pixels of slack space underneath the columns label, and above the button bar. Applying the patch below means you can see 10 records at a time from your database rather than 9. I checked the patch using a column title with descenders in it (eg 'Buffyqg') and it fit just fine. Due to a lack of time (and my Palm III failing and me switching to a Linux-based PDA), I won't be working on DB any more. Marc Chalain, whose email you may have seen, has shown some interest in developing DB. Thus, I am asking if anyone else has an interest in developing DB. If so, please contact me. That way, if there is interest from more than one person, some sort of shared maintainership or other arrangement can be made. Because the source code is on SourceForge and is stored in a CVS repository, shared developement is not a problem. I will still be around and will help out a little but I cannot be the primary developer any more. |

After re-R'ing TFM, I see the error of my way; I failed to install the sdk update (sdk35update1). DB now compiles ok. Now I've got problems w/ pilrc to work out. It won't compile on my Linux box; throws a bunch of token-pasting errors from the precompiler. I assume this is just more fallout from Redhat-7 and the bunged gcc it ships with because pilrc builds fine on my HP/9000 w/ gcc-2.95.2 (after removing trailing CRs from the source files). The only RPM for pilrc I could find is version 2.5, which the DB build doesn't like (TFM sez 2.7 is req'd). Guess I'll have to rebuild my Palm development environment over on the HP. -- Marty Bower On Sun, May 27, 2001 at 12:44:58PM -0400, Tom Dyas wrote: > On Sunday 27 May 2001 12:41, Marty Bower wrote: > > > I suspect that my prctools setup isn't quite right (as evidenced > > by the sdkfind warnings on every invocation), however I am able to > > build and run a HelloWorld. > > Read the file db/docs/building.txt which is included with the source code. > > _______________________________________________ > Pilot-db-list mailing list > Pil...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/pilot-db-list |

In few days you will see new features in the CVS tree: Support of plugins. Configuration of the compilation: extract MobileDB and JFile3 support, extract Plugins support... Plugins directory with MobileDB and JFile3 support plugin, sample plugin Sort by tape on the header of a column of the list view. "Duplicate Record" menu entry in the list view. But i need you to know what i should modify or add. Example: i can extract the sort editor of Tom from the main application and build a plugin with it. Or which kind of plugin will you see for DB. I would like develop a plugin to build a database with informations from a mySQL database server. What do you think about that?? I'm interested by all of your points of view.
