Hello, What does the meta file look like for importing long text fields. Do I use "Note" fields? The DBTools import errors on "note" as a type. Is there a type for long strings? The string type truncates after around 300 chars. Jim Evans Lead Analyst Patient Accounting Ancillary Systems Chance Favors the Prepared |

For people who didn't see, i updated the snapshot field in the download page. It contains the sources and a prc file of the future 0.3.3. The features already implemented are: * choice the opening mode in the global preferences. * choice the font in the global preferences. * Handera slickscreen and sreen rotation support. * use a view to display the record: When you create a View in the ListView you can check a box to use this view in the RecordView. After when you select a record the RecordView display anly the fields of the View. I do that for records with a lot of fields. we often need only few fields but we should keep more informations. * Sony and Handera JogDial. * List Field Type not complete. i must to store the list in the database. * Dialog Box to save the record's datas. Now, i'm adding the Link Type Field and the List storage, and the dialog box to save datas when you hit Cancel with modification. Hi, I have played with LinkMaster and Pilot-DB. So, in my wishlist are some new items. 1. I want to publish link to the database, too, not only to record 2. I want to know, which record I published, because if I export more than one record from one database, I get many links with the same name - database name, it would be usefull, if the records from the same database will be numbered. "MyDatabase 001,. "MyDatabase 002" etc. Number can be physical record number in database 3. and finally - I wanted to insert a link TO the string/note field and easily jump to the target application from the PilotDB I hope, that it will be implemented in the near future, miro |

It's come from the Field object of the PalmOS sdk. The DOC-readers don't use this object. But try to write a memo of the palm software you will ahve the same problem. And DB already supports LinkMaster! Sorry, Salut, marc. __________________________________________________ Voila vous propose une boite aux lettres gratuite sur Voila Mail: http://mail.voila.fr |

I agree with this. If you write in the note field, the first several characters should show up on the screen like this: note: This is a note ... 0 Pressing the note icon shows: This is a note with all the details etc. >I think that there should only be the notes field, and that you should be >able to display 1 or more lines of the note on the screen. > _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp |

The notes field really seems to be 2 fields - the note and the title, and they should be stored separately. The first line of the note can't be used by itself. I think that there should only be the notes field, and that you should be able to display 1 or more lines of the note on the screen. -----Original Message----- From: Thomas Mueller [mailto:pil...@s2...] Sent: Sunday, 16 September 2001 22:26 To: Tom Dyas Subject: Re: [pilot-db-list] note support in palm-db-tools Hello Tom, On Sunday 16 September 2001 05:02, Tom Dyas wrote: > I am adding support for the note field to palm-db-tools. I am adding support for the note field to palm-db-tools. However, I need to know how the note's title and the note itself should be specified in the CSV file. More than one field position in the CSV file? (And csv2pdb would combine the fields into one note field.) Take the title from the first line of the field data like the Memo application? Any other ideas? |

Yes, DB it's not free of limitation. In fact there is a limitation of fields and i'm not sure of the number. There is a number of 32 fields but when i read the code i'm not sure if this limitation is used. At this date, you can only test what is the maximum number of fields that DB accepts. I must look for the phisical limitation to put a soft limitation, in a next release, sorry. I don't think so :-) If you have a lot of records to modify or create it will be a real pain. I like the Exit(save)/Quit(abort) concept especially with text buttons. I do not like all those confirmation questions. Every time I hit something I hope I know what I'm doing. If I don't, shame on me. So ! Why not have it a customizable choice ? Marc ? :-) Fab. |

Marc, I appologize if I've said this before, but I'm still having trouble with the two icons. when in a record there is a little 'disk' on the far left to save the record and next to it a little curved arrow that just exits the record. If changes have been made and one hits the arrow be mistake the changes are lost. I'd much prefer to have a single icon to exit and save. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? I am perplexed. I am trying to create a database with about 800 fields. Don't ask. All fields but the first two are set to Integer, the first two are strings. When I had the database at around 100 field it was fine. I needed to increase to 800 when things got weird. I have a Palm Vx running OS v. 3.5.3. Evertime I try to add a new record or modify existing records and try to save the changes I get the message "FatalAlert Fatal Exception" and have to restart my unit. Strangely, if I am modifying an existing record the changes are made when I restart, but it crashes my unit to do it. I have 65% of system memory available with only 8 records input into this database. Something else that happened is I will get a phantom record as the last record, each of its fields filled with seemingly random numeric values or text. This last time I got text from a mapping program I use called Mapopolis inserted into the two string fields followed by lots of numbers. Is this database corrupt? What is going on? I really don't feel like recreating that database again. I love DB's simplicty but this is driving me bonkers. |

Hello, I have been using pilot-db since version 0.3.1 to store magazine arcticles, notes about pilot software etc. After an initial disappointment because of missing filtering and floating point fields, I found that it is actually quite good (I still miss these though). When version 0.3.2 came out I immediately installed it and was pleased to find the new note field. Unfortunately there was one "improvement" that I don't like at all: The new modify button you have to press before you can edit an existing record. It is a nuissance. Wouldn't it be possible to have a function instead that asks me when I exit, whether I want to lose the changes? But the reason why I am actually writing this post is that I lost data several times because I accidentally switched to another program while still entering data into a record. Most other palm pilot programs store the current edits and when I come back I find exactly the same state as I left. Would it be possible to implement this feature? And one last thing: I have used HandBase for a while and had a database containing the train schedules for two stations (Bonn and Koblenz) as taken from www.bahn.de. It was very convenient to have this since I could just filter on the destination I wanted to travel to (on two fields, the destination and the via field) and then search for the time I wanted to go. If you ever come around implementing filtering I will probably adapt the Perl script I used to create the schedules and make it publicly available. MfG :-) Thomas |

Another feature request for the list: Export a record to memopad (and/or doc, - maybe the code in the sourceforge project "progect" would be useful) ps. progect (http://sourceforge.net/projects/progect) is well worth checking out. It still has a few rough edges, but I use it daily to help manage a range of work activities and projects.
