Hi all. I am new to pilot-DB. I found the following problem and can't see why it is happening: When I set a database as 'private' and then set Options > Security: Mask Private Entries, then the database is really masked. Then I open the database (with my password), close it again. After that the database is unmasked again, and the 'Options' security setting is back to "Show entries" Why does this happen and is there anything I am doing wrong? I want the private databasese to be masked all the time. My system info: PDA: Palm Centro OS: Palm OS Garnet 5.4.9 (used in German) pilot DB: DB v.1.0.3 I described the bug here: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2542704&group_id=621&atid=100621 Thanks. |

.pdb files are generated by various database applications that are not necessarily compatible. You could install a Palm Emulator and load the required ROM file to have a working palm device on your desktop. Ramon |

I tried it here on a backup of AddressDB.pdb, and it claimed it was unsupported, based on the "addr" Creator ID. (My device is a Tapwave Zodiac 2. Does anybody know how, when scrolling down through the fields of a record within a database using the five-way of a Treo or Centro, to get it to go a page at a time instead of a field down at a time?? i see the scrolling options in the Global Preferences, but they do not seem to have any affect on this particular problem. Again, when I am inside a record looking at the data in the fields of that record, I want the down button on my five way control on my Palm OS Centro to move me a page down at a time, rather than a field at a time. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated! :) Thanks. Knox |

Luiz: I'm not a programmer, just a user, but generally rebuilding the database is a form of housekeeping. If you've deleted records over time the database will be untidy, with unused space slowing it down, etc. Rebuilding does what the word implies, by reconstructing the data table and repacking all the data into a cleaner, more efficient datafile. Sometimes a datafile gets corrupted and often a rebuild will fix the problem. You can get general info on this process by googling "rebuild database" or "rebuild palm database." As for why your Zire freezes, I have no idea. My Palm Tungsten never balks on rebuilding. I hope this is of some help. Hopefully, someone with more technical knowledge will also respond. -Michael Luiz Siqueira Neto wrote: > I don't know what "Rebuild DB" (Reconstruir BD - Portuguese) do, and I > don't find documents about this. > Another thing: When I execute this option my Palm Zire 21 freeze. > > Thanks about your time. > > Luiz Siqueira Neto > lui...@gm... > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference > Don't miss this year's exciting event. Greetings! New to the Palm world - inherited a Palm, and so far I really like it. (Had an old PocketPC that died) LOVE the Pilot-DB! Does EXACTLY what I need! THANK YOU!! BUT... CAN'T seem to find any way of transfering created DB's to the PC! In the Prefs, "Backup database at HotSync" has been selected; After a sync, there is SOME sort of file located in: Program Files - Palm - (user name) - Archive But it in NO way resembles the name of the created database, (a search on the PC shows the name of the database I created on the PALM doesn't seem to exist at ALL - does this mean it never transfers with the sync?) it OPENS with DB-Editor, but there are only SIX records - the one on my Palm has at least THIRTY so far. Q: How on earth do I access the REAL database I created on the Palm?? Thanks a million for any help!! |

Does anyone know if there is a way to sort text as numbers in palm db? For example, I have a field that is a text string field of room numbers, ranging from 1-30or so, but sometimes there might be a room named G11 or something that's why it needs to be text. If I sort ascending, then it sorts only the starting with 1s together, then the 2s together. Is there a way to sort text as numbers, as you can in Excel or other apps? =20 Thanks, =20 Kevin |

Hello, from a Belgium user (Ronny) with a problem. First of all, Pilot-db is a fantastic program. The best I have ever had on a handheld. I' am using it daily on my Palm LifeDrive for my financial information (markets) and for my wine tasting activity (hobby). The possibility of presentation of the data is great. Recently I had a "Fatal exception" error when putting an extra line in to the db. My Palm is resetting itself. I had the impression he couldn't calculate the data. I have two years of data lines (477 lines / 60 columns) in my financial db, with a lot of calculated fields. Most of the non calculated fields where originally put in with DB-Editor (coming from excel) at the start (fourteen days ago). The program worked perfectly for over two weeks (more than 10 inputs). There have been no changes in the structure of the db. What can be the problem ? The file is 238KB big. I have enough disk space 3,6 GB (98%) and 44,5 MB (68%) of available memory. Is there a limit of data or space in Pilot-db ? Is my Palm the limit ? I tried several times with a copy of the db and got the same error over again at the same line of data. Even a line just with a date (without data) is enough for a fatal error. I want to set up more db's with financial data. They will be smaller. So, I' am asking myself, is there a difference of data coming from excel over DB-editor and data put in directly in Pilot-db ? Are there (other) things that I must take in consideration ? Is there a product that is better suitable for financial data ? I don't like working with excel on my palm. Who can help me with this ? By the way, there are no problems with my wine-db. Its working perfectly. I want to thank everybody who is willing to help me to sort out my problem. Greats, Ronny ron...@my... |

First of all: sorry if this message reaches you many times since I've = tried more than once to send it and it is the first time I send a = message. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Becky |

Hi, I've used pilotdb in the past & like it very much. I have a lot of databases for it. When I had a palm 515, I kept these databases accessible using Pidirect, which uses an expansion card as RAM. Now I have moved on to a Lifedrive (my 515 screen gave up the ghost) and I cannot use Pidirect. I cannot find my databases, although they are all on the internal drive of the Lifedrive. Can you tell me how I can tell pilotdb how to find them? I would like to keep them on the drive and not in RAM, since the RAM on the Lifedrive is somewhat limited (believe it or not, I've already filled more than half the available memory). Do I make a folder? Can I tell pilotdb to open a folder on the internal drive or on an expansion card? Thanks in advance. Margo Guda. This message has been scanned for Spam and Virus by CuraNet. |

Hi, Thx for the reaction. But i suppose I will keep on using my filemaker mobile. The thing is that the "search" option on the palm os is limited. Meaning: if I would like to search my database on the palm os, I can only search one field. Yet I would like to search different fields at the same time. For instance: within the field of author match 'gallese', within the field 'year' match 2004, within the field 'journal' match nature. All that is possible on the desktop (both in filemaker or in open source db soft). Yet, for some reason there seems to be no possibility to impliment that within Palm OS (due to the limited power of the processor?). I thought that open source might have had the alternative (all of this is not possible in filemaker mobile). But also open source has to little possibilities. If I would be mistaken, please let me know. I prefer open source soft, don't we all, but it simply must be good enough. And thx again for your help, both of you.
