I know I am being stupid and just not understanding the examples - I have 10 fields I wish to add together (field 8 to 17) so I have field 18 as the field to show the results. I can't seem to get it to work. Can anybody tell me what to write in the script? You might even consider compiling it yourself, then you can choose exactly what you want. But as you can see yourself, you won't gain much - the difference between light and standard is around 30KB. Even with 2MB, that's not much. -- Didi |

I recently downloaded pilot-db and it's exactly what I was looking for. I would like some help with getting a script to work. I created a table with an integer field and a drop-down list field. I would like to 'search' for any integers over 5 within a specific catagory from the drop-down list. I believe the script would look something like this: ( [seq [%1] [catagory]] and [gt [%0] [5]] ) My question is where do I type this? Do I enter it in the 'Find' (incremental searching or filters)? Do I make a seperate file? Do I need to enter it into a table? I'd appreciate any help. - Jessica |

Below are the details of a bug report submitted via PalmGear.com for the product DB (Pilot-DB) These are typically review submissions that have been rejected as the context is such that it would be better managed by you as well as for informational purposes. Application: DB (Pilot-DB) Application Location: http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=2175 Software Bug/Comment: Hello. I wanted to thank you for what seems like a damn good DB app. It is pure serendipity that I bumped into your site. I bought Mobile DB about a year ago, and I used to like it. Now I lost it, I also have a different PDA, so when I tried to download it from where I bought it, they only download in Windows format (exe). I wrote to them asking for a prc download and so far, no answer. So, today, I have just downloaded your Pilot-DB and the Mobile DB plugin, I think I'll be very happy with this. I will be happy to make a donation, also to get on a forum or mailing list. Please answer me when you have a moment. Thanks. |

I apologize if this post appears twice. I attempted to send earlier in the day, but it has not appeared in the list at the web site. Just now I found the way to subscribe to this list. I may be rushing the process but I'm most anxious to get help in using Pilot-DB. Obviously I'm a novice at the whole process. Anyway here is copy of what I sent earlier. I downloaded and installed Pilot-DB on Desktop and on Treo 650 Cingular (unlocked). I duplicated ContactsDB-PAdd as "DB". The with HotSync I backed up the Treo. Now I cannot open the "DB" file. I have installed DB-Editor and can't open there either. Here is the scenario: On Treo, in Pilot DB I select ContactsDB-PAdd, the select Duplicate, enter name for database, Type "DB" and hit OK. I get a file which FileZ identifies as "Type DB00" and "Creator DBOS". The perform Hotsync. Then I open DBEditor and attempt to import the file which I find in Backup. At first the error was to the effect that there was an error and DBEditor needed to close, then stuff about losing work in progress. In Event Viewer I found "Faulting application pdb2csv.exe, Version 0.0.0.0. faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.1106c fault address 0x0003381c". Next I reinstalled DBEditor and at this point the file still won't open, but at the bottom is "C:\Program Files\DB-Editor\temp\Contacts_FULL.csv:Error while opening." I can't find anything in the manual for DB-Editor. Is what I have done so far correct?? If not, what should I have done? If it was right, what does this error mean and what can I do to open the file? |

After several good suggestions from list members (for which many thanks), it turns out that at least two of the databases were not showing because they had become corrupted on upload. They showed fine on the Palm, but viewing on the laptop with a text editor showed in one case complete lack of relevant data and in another data from two other databases included. Reinstallation has cured the problem. I'm not sure what was wrong with the other two, but they now work. I have, among other things, used Applejack in the AUTO mode (deep cleaning - different than auto) and removed nicer views of the databases that I had created in the Palm. I don't know what fixed it, but I can at least now see the databases both places. It remains to be seen whether I can consistently edit in both places safely. Thanks again for those who helped. |

I'm trying again to use Pilot-DB (version 1.1.3) on my Palm (running Palm OS 4.0), but I've run into a snag. My databases are such that they grow over the years slowly but without bound. Ultimately they will become too large for the Palm's memory so I try to keep only recent data on the Palm and archive the rest on my computer. The trouble is that although I created the databases in J-Pilot-DB, it cannot read the HotSync backups - it doesn't even acknowledge their existence as files even when "all files" is selected. From reading the websites, I have the impression that the palm-db-tools are very outdated. The computer is running OS X 10.4.6. Has anyone succeeded in accessing databases backed up from the Palm in Pilot-DB's current version? Thanks, Lenore |

PilotDB Mailing list, Hello everyone, I have a few great ideas for PilotDB. Firstly, is anyone able to create a program similar in function to pdb2cvs and cvs2pdb? If anyone can program C, which sadly my skills are not very good. I would think adding support for exporting and importing of .SQL files. Exporting would give options such as export via a transaction, using INSERTs or UPDATEs. It would use the database name as the table name and convert field types. The import would use the table name as the database name and also convert the field types. Since some field types wouldn't be supported, at these times it would ask the user for a choice of field type. My next idea might be easier or even more complex, but it involves the PilotDB Palm application. Would you be able to add by any chance the ability for entering SQL queries directly on the Palm, loading these queries from a memo or PDOC should also be possible. Even creating a seperate storage database for queries. This storage database could then also be loaded as an actual database to modify directly in PilotDB. If SQL is added, I would suggest either a menu item or a button. At first keep the command relatively simple at first, SELECT should be the first one added. I believe by adding SQL support to PilotDB, it would make it the first database for the Palm to accept SQL commands extenting to the next level of Palm computing. And a final idea, is it possible for anyone to create a Palm Library which can be accessed by 3rd party applications to use PilotDB databases from their own applications. For example, sending an SQL query from onboard C or anyother application which can use libraries. This will furthermore extent the ability of PilotDB into being using in mainstream Palm applications. As long as the mainstream application ships with the library and possible the GNU GPL license. It's all your choice where it goes from there. These are just a few idea which I have that I think will make PilotDB stand out from not just anyother Palm Database application, but also from any Palm application that currently exists. Just think about it, a web developer taking importing a product database from their website into PilotDB then after converting it into a small application using the library to ship with every application that they produce, thus every user that has their application will also have their entire or part of their product database which will should improve sales, it's a form of advertising. It will also improve development of various other applications, for example in the health sector. They just have to dump their entire research database onto their PalmPilot for reading away from the office, and re-importing the changes back into the main research database. The possibilies for what PilotDB could do after these have been added are almost endless.
