yes, it is in the help->about dialog, most of it isn't
translated, only the names of each language, and I think
entries that have an "and" in them (i think N_() means
something similar to _(), we use an N_() on the latter).

After speaking with other members of the norwegian translation "team"
(skolelinux, mainly), i have gotten more information:

- No such locale as no.po exists
- no.po should be renamed to nb.po

If there is a nynorsk translator, we'll handle it from there.

Anyway, this means that we need to branch no.po into nb.po and nn.po. I

starting point (marking all strings "fuzzy" or something)?

For Kurt - after studying the old translations and doing some thinking,
i have translated "chat" with "gruppesamtale", and IM/instant message
with "direktemelding" - that what's makes most sense.

When you have the .po, i would suggest using "kbabel" to do the
translations - it has a nice GUI, integrated spellchecker, and it does
the error checking (running the script) etc. Of course you may also use
gedit etc. - but kbabel is really easyer.

- it has a certain connection to the Skolelinux (Linux for schools.
Delivers a variety of Debian Stable, so it's quite old. But it "just
works", and has a wonderful Webmin interface for the server where

Summary: Something wrong with Ukrainian locale

Initial Comment:
I've just upgraded to gaim 1.2.0 (downloaded source
from sourceforge), and found Ukrainian locale (uk.gmo)
a bit reduced. A noticeble part of messages translated
in 1.1.4 appeared in English but not in locale
language. Was there smth really wrong with translation
or it's just a realize fault? I have taken uk.gmo from
1.1.4 and everything worked fine.

None of my business, but... since you say you are new at translating,
allow me to give you a few tips:
Beware that the first translations you'll do, will suck a bit (at least
that's what you'll think in 2 or 3 years ;-), but don't worry, with time
they'll get better, so don't give up, we've all been green translators;
It's very much like programming, your skills just get better with
time :)
Whenever possible, try to look if there's a gnome translation team for
your language, get in contact with them, and try to use their same
terminology and style. Having a glossary for common translations is a
good idea, and probably the first thing you should do.
Try to be as "professional" as you can, the most important is that you
leave the strings in a good state, not that you translate a lot in a
short time.
Use a spell checker if you can, and review your grammar. If you, or
someone else, reviews your translations, their quality will obviously
improve, and gaim users will thank you for that, and most important, in
the future you won't need to spend time fixing old buggy translations.
Accept and encourage people to send you comments about the translation.
Use gaim a lot, this way you'll find the mistakes yourself.
Gaim is an excellent IM client, its translations shouldn't be less :)

Hi Kurt,
I really don't know, as I have no Mandrake experience. You'll need to 
refer to better informed sources about this (there must be a Mandrake 
set of docs about installing stuff, finding out what you can install, 
etc., somewhere).

Please try and keep the translation email list cc'd on this thread.
