What about just implementing the Skype chat protocol for now? I know for example, I use Skype at work, however we don't use the phone capability in it. The UI on Skype is really a disaster. Personally I hate having 7 different conversation dialogs open when I'm talking to different people at work. Hey Peter. I was hoping someone on the gaim-devel mailing list would be able to help you, but I guess not. I'm not familiar with running Gaim on the Nokia 770, and the Gaim project isn't responsible for that package. I recommend spending some time on the Maemo site. Make sure you've followed the install instructions correctly. See if they have a FAQ or forum topic that covers your problem. Maybe try reinstalling from scratch. If it's still not working I'd try contacting the Maemo developers and see if they have any ideas. Good luck! -Mark On Wed, 28 Feb 2007 17:28:29 -0700, Lerten, Peter wrote > Hi- > I am using MAMEO-GAIM 1.5.0-8 downloaded it from this link... > > http://downloads.maemo.org/communications/ > > then click on the Click to Install GAIM link sorry my user name > in AOL is GWReppeter It installs using the Application loader > built into the Nokia 770 (it runs Internet OS 2006 a Debian clone) > > thanks for any help...-Pete > > -----Original Message----- > From: Mark Doliner [mailto:the...@us...] > Sent: Wednesday, February 28, 2007 4:01 PM > To: Lerten, Peter > Cc: Gaim Devel List > Subject: Re: GAIM question... > > On Wed, 28 Feb 2007 14:41:27 -0700, Lerten, Peter wrote > > Hello- > > Please excuse this 'newbie' question. Subject: Gaim (2.0.0beta5) question Hi, When messages arrive I've set to get a notification in the status area on the taskbar as I'd expect. If I double click it will open one of them into currently open conversations, however if there is more than one new person it seems to stop notify and only show the icon in the buddy list. This is most annoying if the buddy in question is in an offline/invisible mode, because I have to check though the whole list to see if there is another flashing icon on the buddy list. Is this due to some option I can set or should I report this as a bug, or is this how it is meant to work? Sir/Madam I seek help from designers, developers, testers, defect fixers, project managers or playing any other key role in Free/Open Source software development or maintenence in carrying out a study to identify practices and problems of defect management in various Free/Open Source Software projects. The insights gained from the study can further help us to extract publicly accessible defect data and determine impact of defect management practices on software quality. Please spend a few minutes of your precious time to fill up the Questionnaire. The most of the questions follow multiple choice formats and are quite easy to answer. To have the Online Questionnaire, please visit: http://anu.puchd.ac.in/phpESP/public/survey.php?name=FOSS_Defect_Survey (You can also copy and paste this link into your browser, and hit the 'Return' key.) I hope you will find all the questions interesting and thought-provoking. Your answers will be kept anonymous. The data thus collected will only be used for research purpose. It would be nice if you may further refer this mail to others actively engaged with Free/Open Source Software development. In the Patch Tracker there are the following SASL patches: Request ID Summary ---------- ------- 1663064 Jabber Cyrus SASL code uses FQDNs incorrectly 1668289 Jabber Cyrus SASL code should have optional passwords These correlate to: gaim-2.0.0beta5-cyrus-fqdn.patch gaim-2.0.0beta5-cyrus-password.patch gaim-2.0.0beta5-cyrus-sasl-hang.patch (belongs to another bug) We have tested all three patches here with a group of a dozen people and the patches work as advertised and we would very much appreciate the patches being accepted into gaim. It would be great if they made it in before the 2.0 release. Without the first patch gaim GSSAPI/Kerberos authentication won't work with many Kerberos+Jabber installations out there. Note that both jabberd2cvs and Wildfire support GSSAPI/Kerberos authentication. The second patch addresses makes gaim work sanely and not pop up a confusing password dialog box if SASL is able to authenticate via another method (such as GSSAPI/Kerberos). The third patch fixes a hang. Thanks, Dax Kelson Guru Labs |

Well, I've known about this for several years, anyways, and did mention it before. I think the consensus was 'smileys suck, anyway' Scratching around my memory, so I'm probably wrong, I seem to recall it being said once something along the lines that each smiley creates a new anim within the gtk window, instead of re-using an previously created one... or something along those lines. As I say, my memory is hazy on this as it was several years ago I discussed it. This was also with regards to Yahoo smilies, and not MSN - so may not be related at all.
