[Phpwiki-talk] A new PHP wiki engine

I've finally got a new Wiki engine more-or-less complete.  It's got almost
100% different design goals than PHPWiki (it aims to be intensely tweakable
and well-written, but not neccesarily easy to install at all)

If you want to try it out, the NBTSWikiWiki is now using the code, so
http://www.nbtsc.org/wiki/ will take you there.

There's a couple features I'd love to hear comments on:  One I added tonight
is "natural language InterWiki linking" -- saying "FrontPage on Meatball"
yields a link to MeatBall's front page. =20

The markup is intuitive, much like PHPWiki 1.3's.  Italics are delimited by
slashes, bold by dashes, underlines, hideity that they are, are by
underscores.  Lists rendered neatly, as if by Lynx or W3M, can be
cut-and-pasted into pages.  Carets at the start of lines begin indented
blockquote tags.

The renderer is fast; the old wiki was tearing our server into the ground,
and now it can be spidered and not trashed too heavily.

I'm using RCS to store pages, so there's full revisioning.  The
InterfaceIllustratesStructure.  I've written an (imperfect, but improving)
acceptable difference-finding algorithm that works at the output stage,
highlighting the differences between the two streams of XHTML.

If anyone's interested in the code, I'll be happy to email them a tarball
with a GPL license.

[Phpwiki-talk] FW: v1.3.3 with MS SQL working

hi,

I found out what this(see below) was.  
the PHP mssql library uses DB-LIB which only supports retrieving 255 chars
on a VARCHAR field.
It's a known issue and Microsoft's response to it is 'use a newer library,
we don't support DB-LIB anymore'
so I changed the schema to use TEXT fields and changed the relevant SQL
queries in the backend/mssql.php
it works now, the virgin pages load properly, I can edit but searching is
borked

the form that the TitleSearch generates under IIS uses code like this

<form action="index.php?pagename=TitleSearch" method="get"

and the parameter 'pagename=TitleSearch' only seems to get passed along if
the method is POST
so the pagename isn't being passed along and the GET query looks like this

http://server/wiki/index.php?s=searchterm

which just displays the HomePage

Now on my linux/apache/mysql box the form looks like this

<form action="TitleSearch" method="get"

and this works.

I've been wading through the code trying to work out why it's putting
?pagename=TitleSearch and not
<input type=hidden name=pagename value=TitleSearch> in the form
but I'm still learning the guts of this and there seems to be alot of
abstraction

unfortunately I have to use NT/IIS/MSSQL (the linux box is hidden under my
desk) if I want to use PHPWiki

when I first browse to the wiki the Virgin pages generate fine but they all
get truncated to 254 characters.

so there should be more than enough room.

before I start digging through the code has anyone seen this before?

i had a similar problem - it seems to come from bad relativ links
within the document like href=3D"//themes/Hawaiian/Hawaiian.css"
i changed/added

define('DATA_PATH', '');

which works for me

I hope you can help a Wiki "newbe".
I have installed the latest version on my Linux box and everything works

But!, I can't seem to get any of the graphics to come up or any themes to
work. It must be some permision thing or what have you. I just don't know
what else to try. I did the chown and chmod as described in the install doc
and everyting is working fine but the graphics.

Could you maybe point me in the right direction.

Im a writer who has spent years working in moos & such to create live online
collaborative writing networks & this software really looks like the ticket.

Any ideas on an easy way to add email notifications when any pages
change in phpwiki?

I was thinking as a quick hack I could write a perl script to check
the database everyday and construct a report.  Just wondering if
anyone else had attacked this problem.

My guess is that this means your version of PHP was compiled
without support for postgres.

You need to recompile your PHP with postgres support enabled
(or talk to your web host admins, and get them to do it.)

     * (pgsql://apache@localhost/wiki)


i am new to phpwiki and was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas 
as to what is going on.
i can connect to the DB from the command line no-problem.

Hi,

This happened to the wiki on the SourceForge server too when the database 
didn't respond in time, probably the server running the database was busy 
or down.

A fix / workaround was added to the CVS on Jan 31, so it's included with 
PhpWiki 1.3.3.

Hi!

mysql went down on my server today, and it's just been brought to my 
horrified attention that my username and password were revealed in the 
error message the wiki spat out.

I don't know enough to figure out if it is the wiki's fault of my 
server's settings... but would anybody mind having a look? Here is the 
error message - I've replace username and password, of course...

It's not a bug.  That's the way it's supposed to work.
These are "dl-tables" used to format definition lists
in table format.  The "headings" (or "definition terms")
are in the left column not the top row.

There is currently no way (other than using the RawHtml plugin)
to make "regular" tables using the new syntax.  There will be,
sometime after someone comes up with a syntax for them...

In the standard US Keymap, the pipe is on the backslash key, usually
near enter -- the key between tab and escape on most keyboards is the
tilde/grave key.  According to XFree86, the GB keymap has the pipe as
the third key symbol on the tilde key (not sure how to type that), but
also as the second (hit shift) on the backslash key.  If there is a way
under windows to hit a third-symbol, I don't know -- I use linux.

That's not the pipe!

The pipe is shift \  (bottom left, next to shift key).  I have=
 no
idea what the other character is for, but if you need it, its
ctrl-alt-`  (at least on my keyboard)

left between tab and escape, but there were three symbols on the key 
and I couldn't get a pipe :(

I haven't been able to reproduce the CSS bug on my system but looking at 
your Wiki I see something interesting, that your index.php is running off 
of the server root. Would you try using the Pretty Wiki setup to see 
whether the bug goes away / your fix is no longer needed?

Ok, I've got a post-1.3.3 phpwiki (from cvs about a week back) running
on my site, and I'm trying to figure out the new markup.

Can anyone explain why the caption on the first picture on this page:

is bold but the caption on the second image isn't?

I'm very impressed with the improvements between phpwiki 1.2 and 1.3.
Migrating wasn't too hard, either (once I figured out a workaround for
that css bug).
