It'd be nice to get the javascript editor from 0.10.3 in there though as it's great. Lightweight, fast and supports everything unlike any of the 3rd Party editors which never work on much past IE and Firefox. Thanks for your input Stevy. I will address a few points. > It is slow, I am rendering in a second or less. I don't really see a difference in speed. Also, 1.0.0 has half of the memory requirements (unless you install converted modules) as 0.10.x. > it is missing a fourm A conversion of phpwsbb is expected. > the approve mod is not in there Currently there isn't an approval module but each module has the ability to create an approval queue. Look at Blog or Web Pages. > and the theme is not as good as the v0.10 themes. The default theme is for development. It is purposely bland. I have run across these while testing 1.0 as well. I can't remember where it popped up. Besides Pear, I am returning a contruction in just one class (Category.php). Is it isolated to 4.4 or is carried into versions higher? If it could be widespread, we can can fix the calls in 0.10.3. More thoughts? I'm more than slightly concerned by a change in behaviour in php 4.4. It's a change in the rules on returning by reference. Greg's noted it in http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php? func=detail&aid=1548098&group_id=15539&atid=115539 although that's down as php 4.3. It does however highlight where we use that kind of syntax. There's more info from the the Gallery developers at http:// codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:FAQ#I_get_. 22Notice:_Only_variable_references_should_be_returned_by_reference_in_.2 2.2C_what.27s_wrong.3F and some correct and incorrect examples at http://gallery.menalto.com/ node/33076 I'm not suffering this issue but I guess that could be because I've a later Zend Optimizer installed than the buggy one mentioned. It affects phpWebSite and more ominously the PEAR library. Any ideas? Shaun aegis design - http://www.aegisdesign.co.uk aegis hosting - http://www.aegishosting.co.uk |

I do not usually get excited or jump on bandwagons for the latest and greatest web "ideas" such as mySpace, Web 2.0, etc... but last week a coworker turned me on to LinkedIn. It is a way to make professional contacts and get references from people you know and have a way to maintain the contacts without having to actively maintain your email addresses. I started using it as a way to keep track of my coworkers until I discovered that one of the people on the contact list of a coworker is a venture capital guy and Monday I was contacted by someone I did not know for possible employment because I put Ruby and Ruby on Rails on my interest list. I would love to have a way to have a list of php / phpWebsite professionals at my beck and call should I have an opportunity which others I know will be interested. My public profile is: http://www.linkedin.com/in/knordquist I highly recommend everyone join and add phpWebsite to their interests and / specialties... and add me at this email address. http://www.linkedin.com Ken |

I like this produce so much that i am not wanting it to go in a wrong direction. However, this is what I see. v0.10.2 is a excellenct example of a product. It loads fast, the themes are great, not to little not to much. There is the one theme where you click on the chocolate and the colors change the theme. That is a great direction to explore. That is simple and great. However, v1.0.0... well, i just cant say the same. It is slow, it is missing a fourm, the approve mod is not in there and the theme is not as good as the v0.10 themes. But more improtant is the approve mod in v0.10.2. I was very disapointed when I discovered the approve mod does not apply to the edit of a content. Only the create content can be approved, as long as it is within only some of the mods that support the approve. I am sad to say that the webpage mod has no such ability to approve. The approve option should be site wide. I was even more disappointed when I discovered that in v1.0.0, no approve mod exists. I was shaking my head when I discovered that in v1.0.0, the great themes were replaced by a less mature, not w3c looking theme. I am hoping that the old themes stay in the next upgrade. Please make v0.10.3 simple and effective with powerful options. what is more, the graphics or the core. The themes are great as is. The layout is just fine. what we need is more options and a better wysiwyg editor. Has anyone got experience of handling audio and video files with php? I've been thinking for a while that PhotoAlbum should handle all sorts of media files. There's all sorts of expensive encoder kits for servers such as On2 (as used at YouTube apparently) which take any video format and convert to Flash Video. However, a quick hunt around this afternoon lead me to an ffmpeg php extension which sounds like a cheap solution (ie. free). http://ffmpeg-php.sourceforge.net/ There's a few issues... 1) a better upload facility for large files (any ideas?) 2) it's only for people who have their own servers and can compile in a PHP extension. 3) still got to convert files if you want all your video in say Flash Video or Quicktime. 4) Latest WMV3 not supported Anyone got any other ideas or experience to share? This message is about the colaberation, editing and versioning of a document in phpwebsite. There is a "version mod" in phpwebsite_1_0_0_RC2.tgz but not in both phpwebsite-cvs-full.tar.gz and phpwebsite 0.10.1 I am assuming that phpwebsite_1_0_0_RC2.tgz has the ability to let users edit a document and save it as another version without changes to the original document. I need that type of versioning system but i am not sure which phpwebsite zip file to download. Is there a versioning system in the latest RC2 or should I download the CVS snapshot. I have noticed that there is no versioning mod in the CVS shapshot. --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min. |

Certainly sounds doable Greg although it boils down to getting developers to commit to work and support AND someone whipping them along as a manager. The spec outlined in their RFQ didn't look too outside the realms of possible in phpWebSite. I can certainly do some dev work and even support if they need it from here, particularly as much of it will fit in with what I'm doing with my clients. I'm semi-permanent with one client and phpWebSite just now, and for the forseeable future so I'd have to dovetail work in with that. Getting paid twice to code the same features works great for me though. No idea how asterisk works. I tend to have a plethora of mobiles (they're almost free in the UK) and GizmoProject numbers. I just add one if a client has special support. Admin wise, I'm just not really interested in haranguing other developers into doing work. Just not me, as you can probably guess from the length of time to get 0.10.3 out. I've no idea how the US gov tendering system works either. I have enough with the UK system! 0.10.3 RC1 hopefully next week btw. Shaun aegis design - http://www.aegisdesign.co.uk aegis hosting - http://www.aegishosting.co.uk |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Please see the email message below. Ladies and Gentlemen RFQ is very much in play for the phpWebSite community. I spent a good 45 minutes going over the intent of the RFQ questions with Irving staff yesterday while on my personal cell phone and on my lunch break at work. Since I am a civil servant I cannot take funds for this project. However, I am willing to do the following: 1.) I understand the RFQ process. That gives the community one up on the competition. 2.) I want to finish the rough edges of the wiki documentation. This RFQ will help do this. 3.) I will sign the initial conflict of interest form. 4.) If the community's RFQ response passes the initial screening and a presentation is requested, I'll fund my airfare expenses to travel and present at Irving Texas. 5.) I'll wiki the RFQ as a "Will phpWebSite work for me?" type document. 6.) Irving is a MS shop now but a new ITD director would like to look at open source more. You see the question here is, "Do you spend your capital dollars for Police and Fire--which re-elects people--or vaporware such as software? The obvious answer provides an edge for a proposal response. 7.) I'll need several theme designers and developers in the major times zones. Hehe--you see 24x7 support is easy to develop with an Internet developed application. If Irving TX selects phpWebSite as the successful proposal and if Irving TX selects you as part of the final support solution offerings, then those that accept will need to fill out a conflict of interest form, CIQ. 8.) Perhaps singletrack or someone with a stable interest in phpWebSite would consider hosting an asterisk pbx. For example, mhoynes, could host a pbx and singletrack could host a pbx for developers across the pond. The federated pbx system could provide both land line and VOIP iaxy service to developers. This would allow Irving one point of contact phone number. The pbx could then route the calls to the correct federated staff based on timezone and availability. Irving really wants a vendor that they can call to coordinate problems with. The proposal can fund the costs of that pbx server. 9.) Patches will be required for some of the items in the RFQ. 508 may be one of them. 10.) The RFQ is on short notice. I plan on have a long weekend and take off Monday 8/28--the due date. I'll have the signed documents ready. The proposal says, "Written quotes (Mail, Fax, Email with Signatures) will be accepted until 5:00 p.m., August 28, 2006." If the document is too large for email, then I'll need to have help or the ability to create an Irving release on -comm so that they can download it. If I have to Overnight the document, Next business cuts off on mid-day Saturday. That may or may not be enough time. 11.) Hehe...we don't need no stinking hardware in our proposal. The proposal will point Irving to their existing WSCA (say as wisca) = Western States Contract Alliance or something contracts. Most vendors overcharge for hardware. The RFQ will recommend that Irving uses their existing Dell or other preferred WiSCA vendor to drive the hardware purchase and hardware support. They have an efficient system in place. Moreover, Redhat or SuSe/Novell can be contacted for the OS support. It would be up to Irving to decide on these options. 12.) Hint Hint: We'll be going up against some very high dollar proposals. If successful, there's a chance for some very nice stipends out of this deal. HeHe...we're not selling software licenses. CahChing! By the way, did I mentions there's the chance for some very nice stipends? 13.) I have tried to catalog various themes and modules here http://phpwebsite-comm.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?title=Third_Party_Themes and here http://phpwebsite-comm.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?title=Third_Party_Modules respectfully. Please send email responses for any themes or modules that I am missing. 14.) Please send an email response if you are interested in being part of the support solution. 15.) Even if you are not interested in the support solution, please be willing to fix any modules bugs within the next 90 days. Moreover, singletrack is ready to do the 0.10.3 release. Please do what ever you can to help drive out any final bugs you see in his pending release candidates. 16.) Please help stardog refine the 1.0.x series. This is another edge that the community already has in the proposal process. There's a nice stable release and a new cutting edge version that has already reached a great deal of stability. 17.) So what if the proposal is not successful? The community will have advanced the software a great deal. If you'd like to try other RFQs, then you already have the infrastructure in place! A nice LinuxJournal, Linux Format, or other trade publication article could really bring some nice publicity to the phpWebSite project along with marketing of the solution that would be in place. Can someone at Appstate give the daily cvs build scripts a kick? They're stuck on June 26th. It'd be nice to have the 0.10.3 build running in the next week so we can get a release candidate out. Shaun aegis design - http://www.aegisdesign.co.uk aegis hosting - http://www.aegishosting.co.uk |

I thought, however, Wow! So you guys are barred from even looking at this as a "research publication" i.e. publish or perish or even a cost recovery model? > this might be of interest to our independent developers. Brian, Thanks for sending this to the list. Ummm...Is this a "serious" RFP/RFI? I see the word updated, apparent issue date of 8/17/2006, and submittal dates of 8/28/2006. That's a major effort for even a "full time vendor" to try and comply with let alone surmount the unspoken open source barriers in this RFP/RFI. As nmap says, "A worthy challenge." Having created an RFP last year and gone through the selection process November 2005, I think this is more interesting from a "Will phpWebSite work for me?" type of question. Hi all I have tried to post a bug to sourceforge.net with FireFox and have been unable to do it. With IE I spend my time closing windows saying that some constant on this site is not encrypted. So for someone who is not having problems with SF here is my bug report. With phpWebsite 1.0 if I set the create account with Use graphic authentication, then try and create a new account I get an error, Confirmation phrase is not correct. I think in part becouse there is no phrase displayed or a text block to enter it in. Now I hope it is not a setting I have wrong, I have reinstalled perl from the rc2 tar ball. Thanks to all for working on phpwebsite Silverwolfe |

Hey all, Although I had some good momentum there for a while, work on 1.0.0 will be delayed for a bit. Students are coming back and we have many last minute tasks to complete. The update was just file changes so you are ok. Boost needs some more code for a core update. I will update it. Hi I just found out there is a core update. Downloaded and uploaded to my server, went into boost and it did not show an update link. When I checked the boost version on the core 1.0.1 file it still says 1.0.0 was not sure if I should change this and reupload or not. Thanks Robert |

Biggest pain in the arse with non-table layout going. The traditional method, mentioned by Eric Meyer above is to add a clearing element into your html. I find that more than annoying and prefer this method... http://www.positioniseverything.net/easyclearing.html Shaun aegis design - http://www.aegisdesign.co.uk aegis hosting - http://www.aegishosting.co.uk |
