v0.8.1 "Santa"

Yepp, Santa Claus is coming (or was it the Chanukka-Man?) - carrying a bag of presents. Now the "multi user capabilities" of phpVideoPro will reach a new level: Every user with a separate account in the application, can manage his/her own collection! For better teamwork, grants can be given to the other users to access the own records "read only", "read and write" or even "read, write, delete". All up to you! ... read more

More to come

Now that v0.5.0 is out as scheduled, soon is AIDA (Again Independence DAy) - and I guess some of you are waiting for the news. So what to expect?

First, right in time for AIDA, v0.5.1 will be released on July 4th (hopefully), bringing you support for multiple disk types and their features. This is, to mention one of them, defining disk types with their capacities and features/quirks, such as Region Code settings for DVDs, and the according admin screen.... read more

phpVideoPro Road Map until 0.5.x

To let you know what you can expect next, here's a short road map for the planned development:

v0.4.6: statistics fix-up plus fix up for some SQL related stuff; scheduled: April/May 2003
v0.4.x/v0.5.0: cleanup and hopefully updated lang support. v0.5.0 is scheduled for about May/June 2003
v0.5.x: more forms to edit technical database tables, such as translation strings or printers/templates for PSLabels. Scheduled: about June 2003... read more

v0.4.2 invents new label system

With v0.4.2, there will be a complete new label system, based on PostScript. Labels look much smarter now, and the design is more flexible. For a preview, you are welcome to visit the developers demo at http://www.qumran.org/homes/izzy/software/videopro-demo
I hope you'll enjoy it!

Regards
Izzy.

more writable media in v0.3.4

Just as a small teaser: I just finnished adding support for more than one writable media. Up to now, remaining space on media was only reported for "RVT", i.e. "Recorded Video Tapes". But some of you complained about the selt-burned Video CDs. And you were right, of course. So starting with phpVideoPro 0.3.4, it will be up to you to decide which media free time should be reported for.... read more

AIDA (Another Indepence DAy)

Seems to be a good day to release - even if only a few bugfixes (but a lot of code rewrite/change/cleanup) is contained. But due to the latter, I need to release in order that YOU can find and REPORT ANY BUGS FOUND IMMEDIATELY. Compared with the time plan mentioned in "future plans", I was really fast (didn't expect that) - so I am of good hope that the stable gamma v0.3.0 can be released this summer (August, maybe?) and I can start with the new features waiting (see doc/2do) soon. And I guess, that's what you're waiting for, huh? So please assist me in reporting bugs, do not just hope that I will find them as well :-)... read more

future plans

To fuel your curiosity for the next versions, here's a plan of new releases which is more precise than the 2do file:

v0.2.5 will enhance the label printing function. This includes improved configurability of labels concerning max lines to fit on them and specification of details to put on as well as the capability of printing multiple labels at once. With G*D's help, this version will be available at the end of June, 2002.... read more

phpVideoPro v0.2.2: "Wake up and smell the coffee!"

Yes, finally I'm back again with a new release. Took me some time, since other things have been more important to me. Hopefully there will be at least one more release within the next 4 weeks again - but as usual, I can't promise anything...

Regards

Reorganization

Within the next days/weeks, phpVideoPro undergoes some code reorganization. In order to add all the features we already have on our 2do list (and those to come) while still preventing "spaghetti code", this is a step to be done. The main "api" functions will be put together into objects, some code will have to be rewritten, preparations for new extensions are to be made, plus more.... read more

new package: Languages

I added a new package to the project: phpVideoPro-Lang. This package will be updated asynchronously to the main package - and the reason is very easy: New languages are available between releases of phpVideoPro, or available languages are updated. If we just add them to the main package, they would be available with the next release only. But with a separate package, you will have them as soon as they are there. So if a new language is added (or markable changes are done to an available language), and a new release of phpVideoPro itself ist not pending for the next few days, I will release a new file to this package - and hope you like this idea :)... read more

prepare for v0.2

now that this version is still pending (and some of you are already wondering that there's no release within weeks), here at least some "latest info" on what's going on:
* language support added for a couple of
languages, including
+ Dutch
+ Norwegian
+ Polish
+ Bulgarian
* support for one more database: PostgreSQL
will be supported by v0.2. Since this requires
some additional testing etc (to ensure stability
since we're talking about a Gamma release),
this is what delays the release at the moment.... read more

Teaser for v0.2

phpVideoPro v0.2 will be the first Gamma-state release and is scheduled for latest September 16th. To already let you know what you may expect, here comes the short teaser:
* it should be stable (that's why it's Gamma :)
* features are the same as in 0.1.7
* support for additional languages is planned.
Comment on the last item: I got some mails from people amongst you who offered to make language files for the following languages: Norwegian, Hungarian, Polish, Italian, Dutch. So these languages may be available with v0.2 - presumed they are ready (no guarantee yet).... read more

feature freeze for v0.2

v0.1.7 should now be the latest "intermediate" one. With v0.2, I want phpVideoPro to reach gamma level and have a stable thing running. So up to then, I plan to only fix bugs and do some work on the docs again. Please, test this version thoroughly and let me know about any strange thing you find!

intermediate release: v0.1.6

originally the next planned release was v0.2 - but after I was kept busy with lots of internal changes (including some fixes) plus it became clear I would not finnish this before one more week, I decided on an intermediate release to keep *you* up to date (mostly with the fixes) without having to haggle with the cvs tree. To see what's probably coming next, I added a todo list to the doc/ directory - so watch out!... read more

alpha 0.1.5 &quot;camouflage&quot;

This will most likely be the latest alpha for a while, since "feature freeze" again will come to effect. Please report any bugs etc. to me (here in sf or via email to izzysoft@qumran.org) that I can (hopefully) find and fix them. Next version I planned to be beta 0.2.0 - up to then I will just do cleanup, fixes and dox.

Comments/suggestions, as usual, are always welcome (why doesn't somebody write anything to me about it? No bugs - or the whole thing considered a bug?)... read more

alpha 0.1.4 released

what's new? A bunch of new lists (actors, directors, componists), more help functionality...

AND: now there are two different menue-bars implemented and selected depending on the browser used. So now there should be more browsers you can use with phpVideoPro :)

as usual, comments are welcome!

alpha 0.1.3 released

besides some minor bugfixes (mainly bugs I implemented after the 0.1.2 release :) I implemented the help system and already wrote some English help files. Hope this helps new users to get startet with phpVideoPro!
Btw: if there's somebody except me using the software: it would be nice to read some comments :)

alpha 0.1.2 &quot;freedom&quot;

released alpha 0.1.2 "freedom" which beside a few minor bugfixes now provides Multi-Language-Capabilities: now it is possible to adapt phpVideoPro to display almost all information (except setup) in your own language! As shipped, there's support for German and English only - but you can easily build your own language files (for an example, see the file lang_en.sql in the setup directory). If you've made an additional language file, I encourage you to send it to me, so I can include it with the next release :)... read more

alpha 0.1.1 &quot;independence day&quot;

Yesterday I released alpha 0.1.1 "independence day" to the public. Major Features where added, such as Filter Functions - which are not only useful to search for some special entries, but also unabandonable if you have a large collection of movies (and could go for coffee while the page is sent to your browser otherwise ;).
But not only this: since one serious bug was fixed, an update is strongly recommended - even if this is just an alpha version! The next update won't be available before the end of the next week, so take this one instead :)... read more

first public beta released

First public beta was released on last Friday (June 29, 2001). As promised, I added no new features but only fixed bugs and worked a bit on the documentation. So here's a list of what I did (extract of the history file):
<ul>
<li>added README (with hints for installation and notes on copyright and license)
<li>while outsourcing some functions used in more than one file, update was broken (duplicate function declaration), fixed.
<li>when adding a new entry it was possible to get duplicate or invalid media IDs. Added some check to prevent this.
<li>preset "Aquired" date to current date when adding a new entry
<li>added check for valid date on adding new and changing existing entry
<li>relaxed date check. Now providing an "incomplete" date is possible. This is useful, if one e.g. does not remember the exact date of aquiration, and so is just able to enter the year (or year and month). Missing data are to be substituted by zeros (e.g. "2000-05-00")
<li>remaining time on video tape was miscalculated, if other medium (e.g. DVD) with the same number existed. Fixed.
</ul>
As usual for this project, you are welcome to visit the demo version installed on the phpVideoPro Homepage.
Next features to come (main focus): filter function, some more docs and - humm, maybe more :)... read more

first public Alpha

"released" first public Alpha today, containing all basic functions. The following days, there will be a feature freeze to only detect and fix possible bugs (and maybe add some documentation stuff), so new functions will follow after the first beta :)
