The phpPgAdmin Team is proud to announce the new major release of
phpPgAdmin. Version 5.0 add many new features, bug fixes and updated
translations over the previous version.

This version has been tested before and during 2 betas release.
Moreover, our new automated selenium tests is able to run against
PostgreSQL 7.4 up to the latest 9.0.

Since the last 4.2 release, a lot of bugs have been fixed and a fair
amount of code have been cleaned up.

We already have many great ideas for the next 5.1, and are looking
forward to start working on the 5.1-dev branch !

Captcha's tend to suck in that they require
cookies and/or javascript, and they don't protect
against the farming out of capcha solutions anyway.

IMO the best way is to require no registration
at all until you've a spam problem.  At that point
go to registration that's approved by a human,
say via an email sent to a list.  This requires
that someone RTFM (English, usually) before
posting and pay minimal attention but completely cuts 
out the spammers.  This strategy is especially appropriate
for wikis.  The intermediate approach is self-registration,
perhaps with validation via email, but this does not
deter the link spammers once they latch on.

Blue/Green sounds good to me, I'll rename on monday before release,

Tomasz Pala pointed me out that our Bugs and Features trackers access
are restricted to the sf.net users.

Should we make these trackers public ? the only problem I can find is
about spams. We could test for a little while and close it back if we
get spam too much ?

I'm not sure it worth the trouble though. We could still use the mail
formular on our website to make people send us email easily. However, we
should definitely advertise way more about it to drive people to it
faster...

About the website, we discussed some weeks ago few new options.

In my opinion, a wiki would be appropriate:

  * easy to update (think FAQ, release, etc)
  * easy to theme
  * we drop our PHP code
  * we drop our old CVS hosting this piece of PHP code
  * NOT easy to host

Sf.net cannot host a wiki wth our own theme. Following the past
discussion we had with Robert about that, I asked the french admin team
of postgresql.fr if they could host us and they accepted.

I'm not sure if the DNS is correctly setup presently, but this PPA
dokuwiki is currently here:

  http://ppa.postgresql.fr

if you cannot reach it, just add the following line to your /etc/hosts
(or windir/system32/drivers/hosts IIRC ):

  212.85.154.68 ppa.postgresql.fr

It still needs a theme with an integrated top menu (instead of this
list) but it basicaly has the same content than our current website
(which needs some corrections !).

SO, if you are agree Robert, should I create you an account there ? If
yes, should I use your sf.net email address ?

Others, who wants to help there ? with the content, the theme or maybe
the translation if we had the translation plugin of dokuwiki (it exists
IIRC) ?

Exactly, you are right. I hadn't time to think clearly about it yet, but
basicaly plugins should (if possible):

  * have a basic folder tree plugins/$name/{conf,image,theme,js,lang}
  * on/off from the general conf/config.inc.php file
  * be able to extends the browser tree / tabs

However, I wanted to release 5.0 first before starting to work on
anything for 5.1.

I am just waiting for a last answer from Tomasz about if I should wait

Forking the project on Github is perfectly fine in my opinion if both of
you really needs to have a "centralized" repository.
However, What about just cloning xzilla's github repo and creating your
own local branch instead ? It would be a bit easier to keep it updated
with the official HEAD...

Thank you for making it clear and open. As I said, it's totally fine
with a fork on Github if you need it.

However, about the projects, we probably need to discuss how it will
enter in the main project at some point. I am sure we had this
discussion in the past about your patch to create a CRUD generator. I
think this feature deserve to be in a plugin, not directly in the core

I think more and more about refactoring (actually, *creating*) this
plugin architecture since I receive some request about some « satellite
» features and I think our current architecture for the (only) slony
plugin is really bad.

With a new and clean plugin architecture, we could have plugins for:
 * slony (updated !!)
 * your CRUD generator patch
 * the e-maj project (the author already send me his plugin based on the
old bad slony plugin code). See http://pgfoundry.org/projects/emaj/
 * pgpool ?
 * you name it...

Plugins would be officially shipped with PPA.

So I hope we'll be able to work on this plugin architecture specs and
code for PPA 5.1. Are you in ? Are you able to gives some hand on this ?

The way you send your translation is perfectly fine, I can handle what's
missing quickly anyway.

However, it seems you worked on PPA (phpPgAdmin) 4.2 branch. We can
still add your translation, but it lack some new strings from PPA 5.0-beta2.

[ppa-dev] phpPgAdmin with DB Designer and CRUD generator

Hello guys, i'm writing because Diorman Colmenares created a Web-based 
Database Designer and I a Crud (create, update, delete records) web page 
generator using phpPgAdmin and we would like to add these features in a 
future release (5.1 or beyond).

Both features are not 100% complete and we need to keep programing it, 
so in order, we want to register a repository at github wich will be a 
copy of phpPgAdmin plus these features to keep working on them , so i 
wrote you to ask if is this correct, or you can create some experimental 
branch, or what steps should we follow?

I wrote you to avoid some missunderstanding like we are creating a fork, 
o we are created a separeted group, etc. We just want to add these 
features to the main project when they will be ready, so, phpPgAdmin can 
be used to design a DB and create basic webpages to perfom some basic 
data operations, besides all new features form ppa5.

never though there could be a similar application also for PostgreSQL. Found 
it in Arch (Linux) Wiki and loved it. So, i decided to translate it into 
Galician.

I followed the steps in TRANSLATORS files until the point 9, where it says I am 
supposed to send you the galician.php file and another file that I wasn't told 
to edit. So, I send just the first file, and I hope you can give me more 
detailed instructions from this point.

Thanks a lot for this great software, and for the opportonity to translate it 
into my language.

Indeed, you are perfectly right. Unfortunatly, from this piece of code, we don't
have the information about the related FK. It probably needs some refactor or
some complex block of code to take care of that. So I will leave it alone for
now...at least until 5.0 is out.

[ppa-dev] About bug report 'double-quoting of non-latin "All servers" message fix' on github

I am not quite happy with this fix cause it seems to me it kinda mess
with the Decorator patern to make it fit the need instead of fixing the
problem itself.

I thought about adding orphan servers directly under the groups on the
same level or even just droping this "All servers" node all together.
However, I am not sure how complex and large might be the former option.

Then I end-up to this patch in attachment. I'm not quite happy with this
solution as it adds a callback function to decide whether or not we
should escape the node text.

Waiting for comment before committing this patch. Though, I would like
to release beta3 as soon as possible now, so I might commit it anyway in
1 or 2 week.
