Ok, so it will be possible by adding a button amongs the actions and/or a new entry in the browser tree under each table (let's say after the table export one). I have a table, say "biograph". It has documentation available via an URL. (http://papio.biology.duke.edu/babase_system_html/ ch03s01.html#BIOGRAPH) All the other tables in this database have similar documentation. When in ppa and presented with a list of all the tables in the schema (the "tables" tab after having clicked on the schema) I'd like a link (or button/whatever) to appear by each table so that the user can go read the documentation on the table. I'd like the same functionality for views as well. > > >> In the FYI category I also have another user interface > >> request that I plan on tackling after getting my > >> patch in that redoes the user submitted SQL interface. > >> That is to put a dropdown on the browse screen that > >> displays categories. Sorry, it's not clear for me, could you show some example? I am working in a new plugin architecture as a project by Google Summer of Code. My proposal can be found at [http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/New_phpPgAdmin_Plugin_Architecture_GSoC_2011]. In this proposal, there are some things that the new architecture will be able to, among them, entries in the action buttons and navigation links. If I understood you well, it will able you to create a plugin on this architecture. If it won't, I will need to talk to my mentors first (Jehan 'ioguix', and Andreas 'ads') before add one more entry in this project, but it would might be done after the GSoC :) Andreas and Jehan, what do you thing about it? > In the FYI category I also have another user interface > request that I plan on tackling after getting my > patch in that redoes the user submitted SQL interface. > That is to put a dropdown on the browse screen that > displays categories. Sorry Leonardo, I hadn't time during the week end, my current week looks pretty crazy and I'm heading to the pgcon2011 on sunday... I really hope I could find some time during the week, I'll do my best, but I can't promise I will. Andreas, do you have some time on your side ? Hi,
I'm entirely ignorant of ppa and what plugins would do
but wanted to write because I got a request from my users
that might be able to be solved with a plugin.
The request was to be able to associate hyperlinks with
each table appearing in the browse view that reference
the table's documentation. Please let me know
if the plugin architecture being considered would allow
for such a plugin.
In the FYI category I also have another user interface
request that I plan on tackling after getting my
patch in that redoes the user submitted SQL interface.
That is to put a dropdown on the browse screen that
displays categories. Each table would be associated
with one or more categories and selecting a category would
restrict the tables displayed to the tables associated
with the category. The number of tables within any
given schema is growing large enough that it is confusing
the users who don't use all the tables. While it would
be possible to put the tables in different schemas this
does not allow for the possibility of a single table
being relevant to more than one schema -- the category
tagging idea would allow a table to appear in more
than one category.
The idea of displaying only those tables belonging
to a given category does not sound plugin-supportable
but I thought I'd mention it just in case it was.
Regards,
Karl <ko...@me...>

Hi people, The bounding period of Google Summer of Code has been started. On IRC Jehan suggested me make a fork of ppa on github. I agree with that, it will be better than last year, when I sent patches by e-mail. My fork address is [https://github.com/asleonardo/phppgadmin]. I have already made a small change, commited, pushed and made a pull request to project official repo [https://github.com/phppgadmin/phppgadmin]. My github account is also configurated to send a message, on IRC, every time I make a push to my repo. I also put, with small changes, the project schedule on Google Calendar, it address is [https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=j021kmt0up95b6iqfnpmbgav2o%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/Sao_Paulo]. Jehan and Andreas, do you agree with the changes? Suggestions are welcome :) As first activity, I will identify and drop the code that has relation with the old plugin architecture from ppa core. Comments? Cheers -- Atenciosamente Leonardo Augusto Sápiras [http://www.leonardosapiras.com.br] |

Congratulations!! That's good news, this will make easier to develop new features to PPA. I'm very interested in migrating my CRUD plugin to test plugin's architecture. Hi people, I am happy to say that my proposal "New phpPgAdmin Plugin Architecture" was accepted in the Google Summer of Code 2011. I thank my mentor Mr. Jehan-Guillaume de Rorthais, the co-mentor Andreas Scherbaum, and the PostgreSQL Global Development Group for help and accept me as student. I also congratulate the other accepted students and mentors. I will discuss my project in the phpPgAdmin developer list <php...@li...>, and in the Freenode irc channel #phppgadmin. My nick is 'asleo' :) A copy of my proposal can be found at [http://fit.faccat.br/~leonardo/gsoc_proposal.html]. But I will put a copy of this in another place. So, what would be better? Put on the PostgreSQL Wiki [http://http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki] or the phpPgAdmin website [http://phppgadmin.sourceforge.net/doku.php]?
