Phphelpdesk does not seem to be able to connect to mysql, and therefore errors out on every attempt. Looking for any advice on ensuring i have MySQL correctly configured as wel as any files i need to change to ensure that it can comunicate with Mysql. Thanks in advance |

I will be the first to confess that my CVS skills are somewhat lacking. However I
have made some modifications to phphelpdesk to answer requirements spefic to a
company which operates a HelpDesk service to other Companies. Obviously I need to
allow all companies for all users, I need to track billing of customers and allow

My understanding is that theoretically, users defined to only have access to a given subset of depts/comps should only see information for those companies. We are using PHPHD in this way to allow our clients access to PHPHD records that relate to their companies, but at the same time want to make sure that not only can they not see substantial information about other companies, but that they in fact do not even see what other companies are defined in the helpdesk. Earlier today I found that at least one of the reports (the closed report) does not check which companies the user is defined as having access to, and both gives the user the full list of companies from which to choose in the report setup and also reports on that list. This, in my mind, is a serious problem. I've just CVS committed some changes (to reports/closed.scp.php and scripts/generatereport.scp.php) that fix this problem. At the same time, I was annoyed that regardless of the g_dept_or_comp setting, the report still says "All Departments," so I internationalized that and checked for the value of g_dept_or_comp so it now says "All Departments" or "All Companies" as appropriate. That's committed too (which means all the language files have changed slightly, though obviously only the English one is correct). So all the files are checked in to whatever the current branch of PHPHD is currently active. I've also updated CHANGELOG, of course. Now, to my mind, this a serious enough thing that we should consider informing the user community of this and possibly expediting the release of the changes to them in a more than "here's the CVS commands to get the current snapshot" way. Thoughts? Given that I'm just a lowly developer (and an amateur one at that), I'm quite comfortable bowing to other peoples' opinions, though I should note that if I don't see a response to this in a reasonable amount of time (one week), I'll consider it a sign that nobody cares all that much and write to the PHPHD users list to let them know. -roy |

OK, it took a little longer to pull this together (pesky job and life gets = in the way sometimes! :)=20 Here is the reporting engine that we had written: http://www.penguindude.com/phphelpdesk=20 If someone uses it as-is, it will certainly require some customization. If = it is merged ino the main project somewhow, it could probably benefit from = using the language file of phphelpdesk. We are releasing this to the phphelpdesk project under the GPL. I am = definitely not the guy to ask too many intricte questions regarding this, = but I have BCC'd the gentleman that wrote this. Maybe he can subscribe to = this list and chime in if need be. :) For my own progress, I intend to = roll my sleeves up a bit and learn this better.=20 I hope this is useful to the project as a whole. At the least, perhaps it = will help someone somehow. If you end up not including any of this in the = main project, no problem. I just installed PHP 4.2.0
It seems there is a change in the setcookie function of PHP.
To fix phphelpdesk to call the setcookie method correctly, just change
the following:
make a file called cookie.inc.diff in helpdesk/includes containing:

then apply the patch in that directory like so:

After checking out the latest CVS version of PHP Helpdesk, it seems that this problem has been fixed and the new version has worked on all of my PHPHelpdesk settup's. I ran into a potentially-related problem where, in Opera 6.0, clicking on 'View Jobs' wouldn't quite work right if you: A) view a ticket; B) add an event to the ticket; C) Press 'View Jobs.' This problem would *not* occur if you skipped step (B). This seemed to be because the URL you were viewing and the URL you were clicking to seemed identical. I fixed this by modifying the <form element in vj_showticket.scp.php to be: <form method=POST action="<?echo $g_base_url;?>/index.php?whattodo=viewjobs&t_id=<?echo $t_id?>"> Which seeemd to do the job. Once you make your fix, I'd love to see if it also fixes the problem I was trying to fix originally. -roy |

Hey everybody, Having implemented PHPHelpdesk at 3 different sites I know the keyboard-pounding frustration of having IE simply not accept certain cookies PHPHelpdesk sends out on one machine while merrily accepting cookies sent from another machine. I also know the strange feeling you get in your stomach when IE works fine w/ PHPHelpdesk one day, and the next day it refuses all of PHPHelpdesk's cookies and refuses to function.
