I cannot see the Respondent & Designer account on the Management Interface menu. To get it to work with my ISP, I need to disable auth_design=false int the phpESP.ini.php file. The name is set in phpESP.ini.php. // Name of application $ESPCONFIG['name'] = 'phpESP'; You can probably substitute a <img /> tag for the text. head.inc is where it is included on each page. You'll need to modify that file as well. Just above this there is a paragraph commented out to produce either an image associated with the 'banner' variable or the file phpESP.gif (which I believe it looks for in the admin directory). I don't know where the 'banner' variable is set, but if you copy your image to phpESP.gif in the admin directory, modify the height and width, uncomment this paragraph and comment out the other statement, you will get your logo in the upper right corner. I'm sure there is a cleaner method of doing this .. The new version is supposed to support style sheets for the management interface. Jack Cooper - University of Guelph |

If you're looking for shared hosting that is cheap and reliable: http://pixiehost.com/services.php?c=shared $6.95/mo 600 MB $9.95/mo 900 MB etc. I asked them to install things like perl modules and emacs and both times they did it (server wide) same day. In 4 months I've seen the site be a little sluggish, so you might get better response times from another provider. You get shell access to a Linux or BSD box, so phpESP would need to be installed manually. Brian Wood Programmer/Analyst UC Berkeley Human Resources Tom Arnold wrote: >Depends on what you need. That note relates to using ESP, "embedded" within another page. You're using the "auto publish" url. You need to setup users/access and mark the survey private within the management interface. Depends on what you need. If you just need it installed, and occaisional updates as the package changes, you can find a hosting company that allows very very easy installation with a tool called Fantastico or something similar. Fantastico is designed to allow installation of common web hosting packages with just a few clicks. It takes care of what can otherwise be some confusing steps for installation. I'm not saying that phpesp is particularly hard to install by yourself, but if you're not comfortable with file permissions, creating directories, creating databases and users, then just about ANY PHP+MySQL package can be a bit daunting. Fantastico makes that all really simple by taking care of the needed steps and asking just a few questions. One thing to check on though: just because a web host offers Fantastico, does not mean that you will necessarily be able to install phpesp with it. I think the ISP gets to choose which packages are available for install via Fantastico, so be sure to ask. Now, if you are looking for a service provider who offers specific expertise in how to USE phpesp, that's a different level of support altogether. My ISP is called psek hosting (www.psek.com) and they offer installation of phpesp via fantastico, but no specific support beyond that. I'm happy with them. > Hi, > > Could anyone share the name of a good service provider to host phpesp > > TIA > > Tom K. -- Tom Arnold |

If the server OS is Debian Linux there is a known problem (and solution) in the archives of this list (or was it the devel list). I cannot remember the details, but it has to do with OS locale directories or something. -James Stefan Pasel wrote: > Hi, > > I have not done anything, because i'm using a shared hosting environment. > > But my phpinfo suggests that it should be there, or is there another > gettext-alternative that might be running on my server? > [http://www.data-zone.de/info.php for the full phpinfo] > > Maybe i should check the gettext-docu and ask my provider to get it fixed. > > Thanks for the help anyway - if you got more ideas why it is not working > i'd appreciate the comment ;) > > Cheers Stefan > > Piersante Sestini wrote: > >> Stefan Pasel wrote: >> >>> i have no idea how to get gettext working.. the system page and my >>> phpinfo says that gettext is enabled and in "real-mode", but the >>> Test-string fails. >>> >>> Does anyone have any idea, how to get this working? >>> >> >> Did you download and install GNU gettext before enabling it? >> >> Piersante >> > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IntelliVIEW -- Interactive Reporting > Tool for open source databases. But my phpinfo suggests that it should be there, or is there another gettext-alternative that might be running on my server? [http://www.data-zone.de/info.php for the full phpinfo] Maybe i should check the gettext-docu and ask my provider to get it fixed. Hi, Is there an easy way to give the same survey to a large number of groups? We'd like to try phpESP for student evaluations of instructors at our college, and we are thinking about a scenario where we create a group for each course, and upload the students in the course as respondents belonging to the corresponding group. Creating the groups is not a problem - they can by inserted in bulk into the the mysql database with a textfile through the phpmyadmin interface. The question that remains is whether there is an easy way to associate identical (activated) surveys with a large number of groups? Thanks for any responses. Lars. |

That warning will be removed when 1.7 releases. I can't say 100% for sure nothing will break with this release as every DB query has been touched/changed to support ADODB. We've been running it here for a few months with little problems. It would be a good idea to dump your mysql phpESP DB before you install this release. By the way, how stable is phpESP-1.7-rc2.tar.gz? The disclaimer in its README is a little disconcerting. ****** IMPORTANT ****** This is a developmental release. Do not use this on your production phpESP database. We are now using ADODB and have made significant changes to the database API which may cause unknown data corruption. Please create a fresh phpESP database instance and help us workout any remaining bugs. ****** IMPORTANT ****** I only have one database at my ISP. All my tables are in a single MySQL database. What is possiblity phpESP-1.7-rc2.tar.gz can currupt the entire database and render all the tables useless? What can be done to backup MySQL before testing phpESP-1.7-rc2.tar.gz?
