Hi folks, Solved most problems and got the systerm working for me, but have an issue.. in the preview, I see the "previous" and "next page" buttons, but they do not show up in the actual survey, here is a sample: http://survey.indicorps.org/public/survey.php?name=Staff_Q4 Any ideas on where I would have screwed this up? I've touched nothing other than the .css files. Anand |

I know I could od that but this is not what I want to do. I want a real time report for some people to see as the survey is running and they don't have the time or the knowledge to export it to Excel just to see how things are going. The default account you should use for new installs to access the management interface is root/esp(this is in the docs). The mySQL account shouldn't be used to log into phpESP. Greetings, I searched the list archives, but found no similar problem... I am trying to install phpESP on XP, Apache2, php4.3.10, mySQL 4.1 (and also tried 4.0). After many obstacles, I managed to have things more or less running, but when it comes to the authentication for "Management Interface" at http://localhost/phpESP/admin/manage.php , I ty= pe the login and password (the ones I use for the phpesp MySQL user), but the login window keeps appearing. I know that I have the proper login/password in phpESP.ini because otherwise you get the error [ Connection to database failed. Please check configuration. ] /*Actually, you get this error if using MySQL 4.1, but I solved it using "old style" passoword. From http://www.whoopis.com/howtos/mysql-auth-fix.html : Reset the password to pre-4.1 style for each user that needs to use a pre= -4.1 client program. This can be done using the SET PASSWORD statement an= d the OLD_PASSWORD() function: mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR -> ' some_user '@' some_host ' =3D OLD_PASSWORD(' newpwd '); */ I installed 4.0 just in case, but I have the same problem... Could it be that I am doing something silly, and I should use a different username/password? I tried everything I could think of, but hasn't worked... Thanks a lot, Carlos Gershenson... If you go here: http://phpesp.sourceforge.net/ and search the mailinglist archives for a string like "iis" you would find this post: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=5767307 The threads are not well linked in the archive so redo the search to see the whole discussion. Hello, everyone. I was wondering if it is possible to arrange options for responses horizontally, for example for yes/no questions: * Yes * No Is it possible? And another question. I have the survey and I put it on my site and I need people who would like to take it. I bet I am not the only one who has this problem. How people go about it? I asked my friends to take the survey, but other than that? Just posting the link in forums is more like a spam. Maybe there is a special place where people post their surveys? What do you think? Anyway. phpESP is really nice. Thanks a lot for a great product! Keep it up! -- Regards, Alexander. http://sjcomp.com |

Newbie questions: 1. Is there any way to add a !other (fill-in-the-blank) option within a rating question? I tried entering a simple !other in the last option/possible answer field but it didn't seem to work. 2. Many survey tools have a way to add labels for the extremes of a rating style question (see below). Strongly Disagree Strongly Agree 1 2 3 4 5 Is there a way to do that or do I need to have a statement in the question like "on a scale from 1 to 5 where 1 means "strongly disagree" and 5 means "strongly agree." ? If not, I guess I can tweak my installation a bit, but I would need some time learning the framework of phpESP. Thanks. Cheers,=20 Fred=20 * Fredrick C. The handler-prefix.php & handler.php are only used when you are not using the auto publish feature. The auto publish url is displayed on the "finished" tab in the survey create/edit screens. Unless you're embedding your survey inside another page, ignore anything to do with handler*.php. Hi, I'm trying to get authentication working with a phpESP on a Win XP/Apache environment. I am having trouble getting it to work, even after looking at the example, because it is for a linux/unix environment. When it says (after setting up a private survey) "You must use handler-prefix.php & handler.php when using private surveys." I could "really" use an example that someone is using Windows environment. Thanks, Tom K. |

I am having a problem authenticating when I set my survey to private. This is on a Windows PC only. When going through the documentation it states to look at the "handler-prefix.php" file. This file states the following: So, create your template file with this as the *first* line: <?php $sid=<SID>; include('.../phpESP/public/handler-prefix.php'); ?> Then where you want to include the actual survey use this line: <?php inlcude('.../phpESP/public/handler.php'); ?> How would that translate to a WIndows XP pc? I guess I'm confused about the path and slashes (or escapes) Any one have an example they would share? Sincerly, Tom K. |

phpESP has a known issue with passwords and mySQL 4.1 but should work fine with 4.0 versions. php running as in CGI mode is also known not to allow authentication. Look at the FAQ and mail archives for more information on that. What problems did you have running the DB create and populate scripts?
