I know of no known issues that could cause this. Something with your setup. Perhaps a very short timeout or very low memory limit set in you php.ini? I'm having a problem with surveys fully posting for the end user. About 1-in-5 to 1-in-10 page loads fail to completely load. The first half to three quarters of the page will load, but the rest of the questions as well as the submit button are missing. Refreshing the page often but not always fixes the problem. You're probably seeing the mySQL 4.1 password length bug. mySQL changed the password hash length from in versin 4.1. Did the ESP, mySQL create/update scripts run successfully? This is the bug: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1153614&group_id=8956&atid=108956 it's fixed in CVS. If this is a new ESP install, I would drop the DB and recreate using the mySQL scripts from CVS. Unfortunately, SourceForges public CVS is down at the moment so I can't link directly to the files. Crosstab functionality may have some unconfirmed bugs and may get removed soon if someone doesn't pickup support for it. Search the mail/bug list for details. A friend's student writes, Professor, I'm trying to figure out how to cross-tabulate the results from my survey so that I can find out when people answer to spending more than x amount of time playing video games, what their other answers are. Ok, I've searched the archive, so I have to ask: I've just installed phpESP, built a survey, made it private, added a group with <Forward/Back> and <Save>, tested, and made the survay active. I can enter responses, and if I complete the survey everything is fine. (i.e. it is tallied, results are recorded, etc.) If I try to save, and go back in via the link presented, after re-authenticating I am returned to the beginning of the survey with no previous answers displayed. What am I doing wrong? Michael |

In a previous version of php-ESP, I had been using the functionality that
lets me display the real-time results on a public web page. Like so (from

When you archive a survey in phpESP, the survey is removed from view and
the results become inaccessible.
The following is what you can do to reinstate an archived survey -- it's
submitted here for the record.
In brief, you need to go into the mysql database that phpESP uses and
reset the status of the archived survey.
1. First you need to locate the ID of the survey -- the number assigned
consequtively to each new survey.
If you already have this information, you can skip this step. To locate
the ID, issue
mysql -e 'select * from survey order by changed desc limit 5' phpesp
| more
This asks for a listing, in descending order, of the latest changes made
to the fields in the survey table.
Set the limit to ensure your archived survey is included; you can use a
range such as 10,15.
The status field of the archived survey in my case was set to 15; an
active survey has status 1.
2. Second, to be on the safe side, you may want to backup your table of
surveys, in case something goes wrong:
mysqldump phpesp survey > survey-table-backup-2005-03-09.txt
If you need to recreate the survey table, you have the data in this file.
3. Third, take out the knife and perform a slight incision and surgical
manipulation as follows:
mysql -e 'update survey set status = 1 where id=101' phpesp
The number -- in this example 101 -- is the ID of your survey,
determined in step 1 above.
That's all there's to it. The archived survey is now reactivated, and
the results are again available.

P.S. In order to use "mysql -e" and "mysqldump" commands in this manner,
you need to have your user name and password
entered in a file called ~/.my.cnf. Alternatively you can add "-u root
-p" to the commands and enter the password manually:
mysql -u root -p -e 'select * from survey order by changed desc
limit 5' phpesp
Finally, changing the status of a survey is likely also possible from
phpmyadmin, a web interface to your mysql databases;
I've just installed it and not played around with it much, but it has a
very user-friendly interface.

David, You can often find your answer by searching the mailing list archive (linked from the phpESP homepage). http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=5559358 The SQL would be: update survey set status = 1 where id='[id]' [id] is the id number of the survey. Be really careful running update sql statements. if you get the Where clause wrong you can overwrite data. I am interested in doing a direct database extract of survey response data into another database. Is there a schematic diagram of the database design for phpESP available that would illustrate the table relationships? I'm using mysql query generator tool to explore the database, but I can't figure out some of the relationships between the response types and question tables.. Either your server for some reason isn't providing $server['HTTP_HOST'] or your edits have corrupted phpesp.ini in some way. Can you send me the output of test.php(in the admin directory of the phpesp install). What version of ESP are you using?
