Administration is working properly, but if I try to call a activated poll via Browser there is only a white page displayed. No way to complete it. In the meantime I've created many polls, I've installed the script twice, I've created the database multiple times, I've checked all script-entries and I can't find any reason for that problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: James Flemer (jimmerman) Date: 2002-09-16 15:13 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=39444 This sounds a lot like pilot error. Please ask for help on the mailing list or on IRC. Most likely problem is a syntax error in phpESP.ini, check php and apache logs for errors/warnings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=108956&aid=597109&group_id=8956 |

They aren't major - just thought I would point them out.... I accidently placed !other in a "scale" question, and while it didn't show up in the survey, it did appear in the results reporting. Second, (again - it's silly, and now that I think about it may not be a bug....) When a user fills out the other section in a checkbox type - but then doesn't click on the checkbox (or chooses to de-select it) the information is still recorded when they sumbit (unless of course they delete it completely). Again, thanks for the great work. I am running phpESP 1.3.x and have a question/comment on how it handles missing values. I collect a lot of Likert data using radio buttons and was wondering why the scales are calibrated starting at 0 in the code? When I look at the CSV it means that I have to shift everything, which is not that big a deal. The problem is that when a person skips an answer it looks like it is inserting a 0 in the field to indicate a missig value. This leads to obvious problems when it comes to analysis. I'm sorry if I missed something obvious in the docs. I think that this is a great project and just want to suggest and edge that could be smoothed. Cheers, --chris ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Christopher Kolar (ckolar) Date: 2002-09-16 14:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=40678 Hi. I'm planning my life for the net couple of months and I was wondering if this missing value/radio button issue has been addresses in the upcoming 1.5? I saw something about the use of javascript to validate radio buttons, but am not sure if this really addresses the issue of where the scale starts and how missing values are recorded. Hi all, I´m testing phpESP for a planned human ressource assement site ...and I´ve to say that phpESP is really a great concept so far. But to use phpESP for our needs finally it would be great to have single-user-survey-evaluation features (as already someone described in a former phpESP newsletter). That would make phpESP really unbeatable...:-) Is there someone out there who like to face that challenge ? ;-) P.S: However, you are all doing a great job !... greets and thanks Jonas solo -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net |

I am reviewing some code for the upcoming release of phpESP v1.5. In the designer permissions there is the field labled "Export Survey Data," which isn't really used in practice. Basically, if a user Joe owns a survey (ie. was the creator of it), then Joe can export and download data, and view the online results. Back when I was making the various permissions a designer could have I was thinking that this should really be called "View Survey Data," and even a survey owner would not be allowed to see the data for a survey they created. The logic being that some surveys may contain sensative information, and it might be desireable to let anyone create a survey, but not activate it and get the data. I want feedback from anyone who actually uses the whole permissions scheme on how it works and doesn't work, and what you think of the "data access" issue above. If no one uses permissions, that would also be nice to know. So if you have a second to answer three yes/no's then hit the survey below. http://phpesp.sf.net/demo-current/survey.php?name=permuse http://phpesp.sf.net/demo-current/survey.php?name=permuse&results=1 Thanks! -James PS. If anyone would like to make any surveys like this one (about the use of phpESP) go to: http://phpesp.sourceforge.net/demo-current/ |

Hello All, First off, you'all rock! for developing and continuing to support this = open source project. I know you're all busy people, but we're looking for someone willing to = do some modifications to phpESP for us to use on a profiling/assessment site.=20 We would need question grouping (as I messaged before to Steve) to = tabulate the values from a group of questions to one value that would be = graphed against other groups. A means to assign surveys to a company, = then to individuals within that company, and have respondents be able to = log in and provide feedback on a certain individual, or get their own = feedback that was provided by other respondents. A means to pull data = from the database for an individual or company and using GD/JPgraph = provide a graphic output of results that can be generated into a PDF = file with customized headers that we assign to a company from the = database. If anyone feels they have the time/experience to perform these = modifications, and would consider contracted work, please contact me at = your earliest convenience with your requirements for work. __________________________________________________________________ Kurt Melander Technical/Media Director IPANAGroup Http://www.IPANAgroup.com __________________________________________________________________ |

Steve, How about question grouping?? be able to specify groups that are compiled together from their values to get a named variable. This way if someone were going to use something like JPgraph (like we are) we can just call those compiled variable references to build sipdergraphs, etc. __________________________________________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve McGhee" <st...@is...> To: <php...@li...> Sent: Friday, September 06, 2002 12:07 PM Subject: [phpesp-dev] question skipping, etc > > i have implemented most of question skipping as well as answer piping. > > hopefully these will be available in diffs when im done. > > these changes have been finished and committed. the current code in > http://open.survey.ucsb.edu/horde/chora/cvs.php/php_survey > has the following: > + answer piping (using the answer of a previous question in the text > of a following question) > + question skipping (redirection to a specific section depending on > the answer to a previous question) (uses ==, !=, <, >, <=, or >=) > + question naming (instead of just a question number, you can choose > to have a question named "intro question" etc) > + smart question numbering (useful with question skipping) > + a ucsb-specific authentication mechanism, bypassable via the > phpESP.ini file > > additions in near future: > + javascript form validation (for dates, numeric, text, etc) > > things not considered yet: > + question skipping with "!other" responses > + other things, im sure > > > if you would like to see it in action, send me an email. > > -- > -stevem > web developer > survey.ucsb.edu > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old > cell phone? Wow, you've been busy... My only comment to add is that if supporting Netscape 4.x in the Designer interface with the new GUI, makes your life harder, then drop support for it. I think it's important that we support, at a very basic level, NS 4.x for survey "takers", but because of it's limited support for CSS and DHTML, etc... It might limit and complicate the Designer interface. I don't think it's a big deal to ask Designers to use a modern browser. Hi Steve, the new phpESP GUI design is 90% finished. I'm currently creating images for all the standard input type buttons and finalising the browser detection / browser specific customisation scripts that will enable phpESP to look the same under almost all major browsers. So far I've tested it on Opera 6.02 (linux),Opera 6.02 (Windows) IE 5.0, IE 5.5, IE 6.0, Netscape 4.78 (Windows and Linux) Netscape (6.2 Linux, 6.4 Windows), Netscape (7.0 on Windows and Linux), Konqueror 3.0.0-12. I've got the Mac specific ones to go and I'll be ready to release the new gui with a few feature requests thrown in. If anyone would like to add to this browser list now's a good time to do it. I'm not commiting to a specific date. It 's a couple of days work but I need to find a couple of days where my own work does not impede. > i have implemented most of question skipping as well as answer piping. > hopefully these will be available in diffs when im done. these changes have been finished and committed. the current code in http://open.survey.ucsb.edu/horde/chora/cvs.php/php_survey has the following: + answer piping (using the answer of a previous question in the text of a following question) + question skipping (redirection to a specific section depending on the answer to a previous question) (uses ==, !=, <, >, <=, or >=) + question naming (instead of just a question number, you can choose to have a question named "intro question" etc) + smart question numbering (useful with question skipping) + a ucsb-specific authentication mechanism, bypassable via the phpESP.ini file additions in near future: + javascript form validation (for dates, numeric, text, etc) things not considered yet: + question skipping with "!other" responses + other things, im sure if you would like to see it in action, send me an email. -- -stevem web developer survey.ucsb.edu |

has any progress been made on the skins (err redesigns) for the admin interface? also, has anyone worked on using non http-auth authentication? (ie php sessions, etc instead) i have implemented most of question skipping as well as answer piping. hopefully these will be available in diffs when im done. you can always check out the progress here: http://open.survey.ucsb.edu/horde/chora/cvs.php/php_survey?login=2 (note: there are some ucsb specific changes to the authentication system, please dont attempt to run this version of phpesp unless you know how to hack it up) -- -stevem web developer survey.ucsb.edu |

Administration is working properly, but if I try to call a activated poll via Browser there is only a white page displayed. No way to complete it. In the meantime I've created many polls, I've installed the script twice, I've created the database multiple times, I've checked all script-entries and I can't find any reason for that problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=108956&aid=597109&group_id=8956 |

Hey Everyone. It about time to get a new release out the door (well acutually its way past due). I'm going to look over stuff and try to update the CHANGES[1] file as much as I can. I would appreciate it if later today people would take a look at it and remind me if I missed things. Also, look over the TODO[2] list, and remind me if I forget to add/remove anything from that. I'll be on IRC this afternoon till about 4:30pm (EDT), then be away at a conference the rest of the week. Please try to get everything together. I will probably do a RC1 before I leave today if I can, then RC2 early next week if necessary. [1] http://phpesp.sf.net/cvs/CHNAGES?rev=. [2] http://phpesp.sf.net/cvs/TODO?rev=. -James |
