I submitted this patch today. One of my customers wanted a specific look for the survey rendering, and this was the least intrusive way I could accommodate. Hi Guys, I need some help with a feature that I'm trying to apply to phpESP. I've finished creating the GUI to the undocumented cross analysis feature of phpESP but would like to enhance it to also provide cross tabulation capabilities. The attached file should make it clear where I'm heading with this. You'll see that on the left hand side of the attached file there exists a radio button next to each question and a check box for each of the choice ids.Selecting a question's radio button followed by one or more choice ids for the selected question the existing cross analysis feature will return the entire result set (exactly as seen for survey results) but based on the selected criteria. This works fine and I'm in the process of changing it so that you can cross analyse on more than one question which can't be done currently. My dilema is with the 2 radio buttons which are on the right hand side of the question. (just in case you are wondering about the questions without these radio buttons remember that cross analysis currently works only on questions with a tid of 1, 4, 5 and 6). The radio button in the red column indicates the rows for the cross tabulation and the radio button in the blue column indicates the columns for the cross tabulation. Suppose I select the red radio button for question3 (see attachement) and the blue radio button for question 1 then the resulting page would look like this (with the ability to display these results in a number of different graph types): ------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Male | Female | Totals | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | <35K | 2 | 5 | 7 | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | 36-45K | 5 | 6 | 11 | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | 46-55K | 8 | 5 | 13 | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | 56-65K | 3 | 1 | 4 | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | >65K | 4 | 4 | 8 | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | TOTALS | 22 | 21 | 43 | ------------------------------------------------------------------- My problem is as follows: What's the most appropriate sql statement(s) that will return the result set (data) as illustated above? I know the result set can be returned using subqueries but since mysql doesn't support these I'm a little stuck as to the most appropriate / desirable way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kon |

phpESP v1.5 RC3 has been released. This fixes a significant bug in 1.5 RC1 & RC2 which caused data from !other check boxes to be lost. The final version of 1.5 should be out very shortly provided there are no problems found in RC3. Please upgrade NOW if you are using RC1 or RC2. Thanks. -James |

Hey Rebecca, I can't speak for the other developers but I would like to encourage and welcome you to play in "our" sandbox. There is one thing I'd like to stress and that is that you write to this list when you propose to work on a particular feature so that we are not duplicating effort. I'm currently putting together a gui version for the undocumented cross analysis feature of phpESP and expanding it to also allow for cross tabulation of results. This includes writing a "graphics" module so that phpESP can take advantage of pie, line, bar graphs etc... The second item on my list was to also expand the ratings scale to allow more flexibility. Yes, I'm new to sourceforge (bekasu); but have found great value with phpesp. I'll be using phpesp for a major initiative with k-12 school instructors in Texas. I've informally chatted with James twice and he recommended I contact you folks. I'd like to participate as a developer. All code on our site has to be HTML compliant and BOBBY compliant, soooo since I'll be modifying code anyway I figured I should get active and share the changes. There are a few other areas I'll be developing: 1) paired comparison questions 2) identifying questions that are reversals (negatively worded) to ease the burdon of survey analysis 3) likert scales using labels other than 1-2-3-4-5 (I believe this is already on the 'requested' list) I realize you don't know me, nor my programming skills; however, I've already made the first pass at upgrading the HTML by converting all uppercase tags to lowercase. I'm now working on including an HTML-metatags module as the first call when generating a new page. Once that is complete, I can test each page with w3c.validator to ensure everything is okay. Would you let me play in your sandbox or should I just send a contact person changes I make? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! Hi Guys, I was looking at the code for the patch I posted to this list a few days ago and found a bug with the browse_responses.inc file so here's the new version. I've tested it on our live system and didn't find any probs so I'll be commiting the patch to cvs shortly. Kon |

Broken images are usually caused by a incorrectly edited phpESP.ini file. My first suggestion would be to try a 1.5rc* version. The layout of phpESP.ini has been simplified somewhat in 1.5, besides loads of new features and bug fixes. Hi Guys, A little while back we implemented the ability to view individual respondent results. I've further enhanced this so that you may now navigate through all the respondent results by using "Previous" and "Next" links. So once you've initially selected an individual response to view (via the dropdown box) you will be presented with navigitation links at the top of the page which will allow you to "scroll" through your respondent results. Attached is the diff file. Please test it and let me know if I've missed anything. If I don't hear from you guys within a few days I'll commit the changes to cvs. By the way, the patch was created against the latest cvs_devel version (downloaded Sat. 19th). Kon |

Hi all, I installed v1.4 a few days ago and am very impressed with it. I've only experienced one problem and despite how simple this problem seems to be, I cannot, cannot, cannot solve it. OK, here it is - I can't get any of the graphics (the Gifs in the 'images' directory) to display. None of the tabs in the Survey Design or management interface appear, in fact at no time in the app's operation do I see a single graphic display. I'm tempted to just say I've just messed up the statement pathing of the /images directory in phpESP.ini, but here's the bizarre part - Say I go to the 'View Survey Results' part of the app, hoping to see the neat blue bars stretching across the page (but of course, I don't). If I look at the generated html of the page I see the code for the 'blue bar' looks something like this: <img src="www.myhost.com/~thebert/cm/images/hbar_l.gif" height=9 width=4> <img src="www.myhost.com/~thebert/cm/images/hbar.gif" height=9 width=22> <img src="www.myhost.com/~thebert/cm/images/hbar_r.gif" height=9 width=4> But nothing's (no graphics are) displayed in either browser I try (Mozilla does at least show little outlines where the graphics should appear). And here's the part that really makes me crazy: If I copy just the path info from this file, i.e. www.myhost.com/~thebert/cm/images/hbar_l.gif and paste it directly into a new browser window, the beautiful little blue bar endcap appears. I do not understand. I thought I understood most of what makes browsers and html work. I obviously am missing something. Please group, give me a thought or two on where I've gone wrong. Thanks for listening, I feel better now. Tom Hebert |

The File survey_export_csv.inc (1.8) has been fixed for the new-line problem and something else. Exporting the Data of unfilled Fileds to CSV will duplicate the last valid entry with in a line until the next field entry will be exported. The CSV looks like: NACHNAME,VORNAME,STANDORT,BUS,UHRZEIT,UN TERKUNFT,ZIMMMERGEN "Nachname","Vorname","Berlin","Berlin","Berlin",, "Nachname2","Vorname2","Karlsruhe","Ja","Ja",, "Nachname3","Vorname3","Kassel","Kassel","2.00 Uhr","Doppelzimmer", "Nachname4","Vorname4","Saarbrücken","Saarbrücken", "Saarbrücken",,"Niemanden" But it should look like: NACHNAME,VORNAME,STANDORT,BUS,UHRZEIT,UN TERKUNFT,ZIMMMERGEN "Nachname","Vorname","Berlin",,,, "Nachname2","Vorname2","Karlsruhe","Ja",,, "Nachname3","Vorname3","Kassel",,"2.00 Uhr","Doppelzimmer", "Nachname4","Vorname4","Saarbrücken",,,,"Niemanden" It looks like that a var won't be deleted within a loop and copies the value until the loop will find the next entry within da dataset of a response id. Feature Requests item #622973, was opened at 2002-10-14 06:24 You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=358956&aid=622973&group_id=8956 Category: survey format Group: None >Status: Closed Priority: 5 Submitted By: Kirk Fickert (kfickert) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Adding feature to disable accout... Initial Comment: Actully I will be doing this for my own personal needs. Basically we run double blind online research surveys, and this package does everything we need but it lacks two features: 1) Create a fixed number of randomized usernames and password to be distributed to people. 2) Disable account after survey has been filled out by a user. I will be adding a "random users" script that can be exucuted from outside the main script and add info the database. And then I will figure out a way to add the option to diable user account after submitting the survey. First one isn't that hard and proably will be finished tomorrow. Second part I may have some questions about where to look for it in the code and add the 'disable account after submit' feature. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: James Flemer (jimmerman) Date: 2002-10-14 15:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=39444 Version 1.5 and later have the ability to do bulk import of user accounts. Use Perl or something like that to create a list of users, then use the bulk import feature. Or write an new auth module that uses some other source for user information. Disabling an account is as simple as setting the max number of responses to 1. After they take the survey, the will not be able to take it again. If you have any further questions please join one of the mailing lists, or look us up on #phpesp on irc.openprojects.net. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=358956&aid=622973&group_id=8956 |

But to be the most useful for doing individual assessment/profiling this feature should be incorporated into the database so that individuals can see their survey data as well as seeing survey data from others that may have been submitted against their name. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=358956&aid=406914&group_id=8956 |
