Hey what did we get with the ucsb import anyway? I never really got a chance to review any of it. If there is anything we want to pull back into the main branch, we should do it soon before the code base changes much. -James |

Initially my feeling was that phpESP should be installed somewhere outside of the web accessible part of your filesystem. This would ensure that phpESP.ini would not be compromised. However it seems many people can not understand how to do this, and many can not do so because they have to deal with open_basedir restrictions from their hosting service. In light of this, I am willing to change the extension. The change would be to rename phpESP.ini to phpESP.ini.php. I would like the developers to vote on this (-1/0/+1). This also brings up an important point about mysql security. If you are concerned about your database passwords, then I suggest you read the mysql manual on permissions. The mysql security model allows restricting access based on IP addresses, usename/password, database, and actions. My mysql server uses phpesp with the default password (phpesp), and it doesn't matter that I tell you that because the restrictions on hostnames, databases, and permissions on that account prevent anyone from doing damage. Anyone administering a mysql server should RTFM. -James ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 16:45:39 +0100 From: fl...@gm... It will stay as it is. I believe I need to make sure that the 'thank you' page doesn't re-include the stylesheet, though. Perhaps someone could note this issue in the FAQ or /dev/null. Not sure if that was the intention originally, but it makes sense to handle it this way. IE. Hey Kon and everyone else, There was a post on the general- list about themes not showing up in embedded surveys, only when using the 'auto-handler' (public/survey.php). I sorta assumed this was so that we don't stick a <link rel="stylesheet" ...> in the middle of a page and fubar the existing css. Or maybe it was just missed. What do you guys think, is the css for the survey likely to stomp on someone's own css? Should we care? I told the poster to just link to the esp stylesheet in his template, or include it's contents in his own css. Any thoughts? -James |

Dugal (jpd2) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Unanswered required question handling Initial Comment: I've installed phpESP-1.5 under Solaris 8, Apache 2.0.43 and PHP 4.2.3. I have built a small survey and it's working fine, except for one small anomaly: if I omit filling in a required question, I get a survey form back that includes a message about the missing questions. The problem is that the form does not have any of the answers indicated for the subset of questions that I did answer. This seems to occur because I have register_globals=Off in php.ini. The esphtml.forms.inc file has comments indicating 'needs register_globals = on' for setting the 'checked' html option. Is this desirable behaviour, in light of the recommendations in php.ini to leave register_globals set to Off? I suggest that if it is indeed a requirement to use register_globals=On for replaying the answered questions properly, then if register_globals is Off, just the missing question texts be displayed, followed by a directive to press the BACK button and resubmit. Something like this change might help (it still leaves the "Submit Survey" or "Next Page" button displayed ... so handler.php needs more work too to make this change viable. Can you give more details about your install: operating system, webserver name and version, php version and type (cgi or module)? Giving me a URL to your site won't help me any, so don't bother. Also I cannot see your email address since you weren't logged into sourceforge when you submitted the bug. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2002-06-14 15:20 Message: Logged In: NO Ok, it seems to work on the Demo site just fine. We are running v1.4. However, we have duplicated the problem on an entirely different survey on our server. The problem appears both in the Preview mode and the Test mode. If you would like to see what is happening with my survey, please email me directly, and I will send you the link to our server where the survey resides. Thanks in advance for your help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: James Flemer (jimmerman) Date: 2002-06-14 15:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=39444 The "Order" tab does not show "real" numbers, just numbers that let you rearrange items. The "Preview" tab should have questions numbered correctly. Here is some code that will check survey responses for valid input. I.e. numerics are tested to be numbers, dates as dates, and the number of checkboxes selected is compared to min (aka length) and max (aka precise). FWIW, the code was originally based on the "check required" function. I regret that I can't provide a proper diff, I'm technically inept in that regard =), and besides, it would be cluttered with other customizations that are irrelevant to phpESP anyway. The attached text file has 2 functions that can be placed anywhere, I suggest espresponse.inc. And 3 lines to be added to handler.php. Hope this is useful. Regards! I hit this problem about a month ago, just from a different perspective. I developed code for a new type of question (constant sum), where the respondent could key in varying numbers in several fields for a single answer. (E.G, spread 100 points across the following four possibilities.) My dilemma on error checking was: what if the person distributed too many or too few points across the fields. When the error trapping occurred and redisplayed the form, a list of questions with errors would be displayed right beneath the heading AND all the values keyed by the respondent would be gone. Discussed it in the development group with Chris and Matthew. We came up with some possible solutions, but I decided to wait until Kon was available to pursue my possible solutions with him. Guess that puts me in the category of: aware but not enlightened. I was more concerned with solving the error trapping problem rather than pursuing the 'missing' form information. But knew that solving the error trapping problem would provide the data I needed for the other. rebecca __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Bugs item #644337, was opened at 2002-11-26 15:07 You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=108956&aid=644337&group_id=8956 Category: User Group: v1.5 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: James P.
