Can the default values be changed based on the data type? For example, "integer" or "serial" defaults to no dimensions while decimal defaults to 2. Similarly, data types that normally don't have dimensions (timestamp, date, and so on) could default to no value in the dimensions (user override should remain an option).

To my knowledge, there are default values set for new objects, except for some flag (true / false).
Can you explain the problem better?
