Oh my, thank you so much! I did a silly mistake there and included the wrong file in config, so i was changing the non-included file and was confused why it wasnt working lmaooooo. Thank you so much :) I will try putting the loudness command thru the command window then :)

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

I am assuming this is some sort of conflict between the 2 editors No, it isn't. Both editors can be used simultaneously. If the Configuration Editor of Equalizer APO doesn't work it just means that the commands you add/change aren't being applied. This can be a few things. First of all, check if the "Instant mode" checkbox (top left) is checked. Also, the commands (loudness, etc.) should be in config.txt or in a file which is then included in config.txt by adding an include file command. Another...

Hi so I'm not really sure how to word the title lmao. But basically, Peace GUI is working fine, all the presets work and whatever so obviously it is working as intended. However, when i go into the EQapo editor and try to make a thing with loudness correction (which i believe is not supported by peace), none of the changes I make in the EQapo window are applied to my output. Like I put preamp to -20 and its the same sound. I am assuming this is some sort of conflict between the 2 editors, so I was...

I mean I am sure there is some kind of pattern to it which I simply don't get .. Yep! Looking at your video (which is very helpful!) I see you do the wrong motion. The motion is up and down. Up = increase and down = decrease. This motion is explained in a sentence below 😃 It can be a new motion for us Windows users so I get it when some don't pick it up immediately hence the explanatory sentence.

Hello, thanks a lot for answering! <3 I don't think my mouse is the issue as I have expensive gaming mouse and have zero issues with anything else .. also the left click doesn't drop a single time .. Its very hard to explain so I uploaded a video :) Link: https://youtu.be/XGwHLnWuRik The thing is, when I try to move the rotor, its not constant .. it doesn't follow my mouse movement whatsoever, it acts randomly .. Unfortunately only the balance, bass and treble knobs can be sliders, in their case on the main screen. For which knobs do you need sliders? Perhaps I can investigate putting your main one onto the main screen. The Effects panel is in its 9th year of existence. You're the first one having an issue with the rotary knobs. I'm guessing something is going wrong which isn't related to a "super bug" :) For instance, the left mouse button could be faulty. This happened to me with my Logitek mouse this year....

  • Eliran Cohen Eliran Cohen posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Any way to turn the Knobs in "effects" into sliders or something more practical with a mouse? I find the knobs super buggy and annoying when turning them with a mouse .. I understand the nostalgic DJ feeling of having knobs, however - I would love if there would be something more practical .. Thanks! :)

Yeah was wanting to have software control over the sub via peace, instead of having to mess with the gain, adjustable low pass filter etc. But sounds like not possible with my current setup. Thanks so much for the help!

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

I see. No other playback devices listed. So the only entry is the right one. Reading the specs on the Fiio K11 I don't see any mentioning of a sub channel. It seems to be a common stereo DAC/Amp. In other words, the left and right channels are fed into a subwoofer, in your case to the PreSonus Sub8. This all means that you can't control the subwoofer in Windows in anyway, as you said this yourself. Although the PreSonus Sub8 is doing a good job on its own I understand you want to have control over...

Looking at your screenshot currently the Minifuse 2 mic is on SFX/MFX as the dropdown list says "Install as SFX/MFX". Btw. Sorry I said "K11". I meant to say "Minifuse 2". SFX/MFX is the most common APO setting in Windows. But having this popup it could be that SFX/EFX or LFX/GFX (old Windows setting) solves that. Or maybe not but it's worth to try. As the "Use original APO" checkboxes are greyed out there isn't another APO (made by Arturia) interfering with Equalizer APO. So that's a good thing....

  • Michael Lesnett Michael Lesnett posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

I see. No other playback devices listed. K11 has a single RCA R/L line out, single(combo?) coax in/out(yellow), and optical in. So it appears that it just doesn't have the necessary inputs/outputs for what I am wanting to do. Or can/should I be using the coax in/out for sub? I guess I didn't mention previously that speakers and sub are both active/powered.

Hi, ty for you quick response, unfortunately they're already unchecked, they are like greyed out... Thank you

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Well, it should be under the Configure button but looking at your screenshot of the Playback devices this button is greyed out for the K11, meaning it doesn't have a speaker setup. This suggests it's stereo and the subwoofer output is created out of the Left and Right channels. If this is the case then it isn't a real 2.1 device and Windows (thus Equalizer APO and Peace) can't do anything with the subwoofer channel (as it just isn't there). To be sure, look for another Fiio K11 entry in the Playback...

This issue is related to Equalizer APO being a sound enhancement (an Audio Processing Object). If the "Disable sound improvements" checkbox is checked then Equalizer APO doesn't (or rather can't) work, see also this wiki. Unfortunately an app can disable all sound enhancements or disable Equalizer APO, in your case on the mic. To inform the user the message pops up saying this. Usually the software of the mic so Fiio software in your case does this disabling. You can try some troubleshooting options...

Hi, new to budget audiophile space... I have Presonus eris 4.5 monitors paired with Presonus sub8 for a 2.1 PC setup. Using Fiio K11 headphone DAC/Amp. Connections as follows: PC>K11(preamp-line out)>sub8>eris4.5, via RCA. Problem is when trying to use any of the pre-set EQs, or even if I create a custom EQ, none of the functions impact the sub speaker when sub is selected from speaker list. Is this because there is only R/L preamp line out from K11? Is there any workaround for this?

If everything went alright then your configs are in a sub folder called Peace backup in your documents folder. You can manually copy them to c:\program files\equalizerapo\config, the folder where Peace is located. After restarting Peace they should appear in the configurations list.

Pre aamp slider isn't changing anything. So, like you said, APO isn't working. Only the devices plugged to UMC22 have "USB" in their names. It looks like you did everything alright for the UMC22. After testing the 3 "Install as" settings you might set it back on "SFX/MFX" and try the unchecked "Use Original APO" checkboxes. But also try this unchecking with "LFX/GFX" and "SFX/EFX". Tested and didn't do anything. Should I try to reinstall Peace and APO?

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

The easiest way to test if Equalizer APO is working on a target device is by moving the pre amp slider drastically down. If the sound fades then everything is okay. If it doesn't then Equalizer APO isn't working. "Speakers - USB Audio Codec" must be the name then although it's a bit odd. Are there any other devices with "USB". Anyway, for testing just temporary set "All devices". It looks like you did everything alright for the UMC22. After testing the 3 "Install as" settings you might set it back...

Sorry to say but it doesn't make any sense. When EQ-ing, the pre amp should be fixed to a value in order to prevent clipping of the sound which may be caused by the EQ filters. Using the pre amp as a volume switch is just bad practice. The pre amp isn't a volume change. It's a change of the amplifying of the gain. That's a major difference which any one should know. I have a YouTube tutorial for that. In other words, an EQ comes with a fixed pre amp. They should be together like twins. So enabling...

  • dingdong3 dingdong3 posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Changes in single phases are difficult to hear in practice. (ex: Only some bands near 2000~8000 Hz adjust the phase) Also, The flip of the whole thing actually has to be the same. (ex: L=-1.0*L) But quite a lot happens when it's mixed in reverse phase. (ex: L=-0.5*R+L things) We also use this to do Crosstalk Cancel. I think there's too much content to write about this.

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Looking at the graphs the reversing works just fine. But I'm confused what it does for the phase. Of course when the signal consists of sines which repeats themselves in time perfectly the - sign will result in 180 phase shift (reversal). Unfortunately my audio knowledge is just too little to understand what it precisely does for an audio signal.

  • dingdong3 dingdong3 posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

I dont know... I tried other command. Copy: L=-1.0L R=-1.0R This doesn't record anything even if I do or don't convolve. But that command seems to be wrong. =(

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

You might right. An inversion of all samples according to this: new sample = 1 - old sample (where 1 is normalized from the bit depth) might not be a reversal of the phase like I thought it was. If so then one can ask what is the use of the - sign.

  • dingdong3 dingdong3 modified a comment on discussion General Discussion

This is my guess, but APO's -1.0 command may not actually be in reverse phase. It could be a whole reversal of the response with an inversion rather than an Reverse Phase If so, I can understand the results I tested. Because only the response of the convolution was reversed, the filter went to zero, which is why it was recorded again as sweep.

If you look at this, you'll understand. It is considered normal when the sound is not recorded, but using APO's command is recorded as sweep. (Sound is played)

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

APO is also true that the information in the convolution is missing, but slightly above is completely different. If you're talking about the weird result at the right then it might have to do with nearing the sample frequency by the sweep. But I also expect it to be zero over the total frequency band. On the other hand, I don't know the inner workings of Equalizer APO well enough or dealing (calculations, etc.) with audio samples for that matter.

  • dingdong3 dingdong3 modified a comment on discussion General Discussion

I should try your peace file later. But I don't think I can. I did the C= -1.0*VC command myself and saw a huge clipping. So I didn't type in the APO phrase, and I directly reversed the impulse and it went normal.

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

I guess I would do it with the new virtual channel feature as can be seen in the attached .peace config file. But if Peace can't do a reverse of a virtual channel than Equalizer APO can't either as it's the same command. When talking about a button for engaging this then you might use the enable/disable button on the C=-1.0*VC speaker: - Select this speaker - Click on small button to the right of the 'Select speaker' text.

They're probably using the default Windows USB audio driver as you're also saying. Other multiple channel interface, especially those with more than 8 channels, may use their own software thus driver. Often Equalizer APO can't deal with that. I have a similar question. There appears to be 3-4 cheap 7.1 USB interfaces on Amazon and everything else comes with gimmick software and a high price tag (coughCreativeLabs). There are also professional audio interfaces (Focusrite/Presonus/Behringer/etc) but you have to go way up the product lines to get 8 outputs. I'm wondering if any of the $15-40 products are "good enough" meaning acoustically transparent, free from hiss, and works with Windows 10/11 in-box drivers.

Now with virtual speakers one can cross feed the front, side and rear separately.

The feature of virtual channels isn't a preset. I just made a midside preset with it as a good example. Like a normal channel a virtual channel can be added to the speakers list. On the speaker selection interface a user has 3 options: all speakers, a combi of speakers or a virtual speaker by entering a command. Of course, when having multiple virtual channels mixing to multiple normal ones is a bit complicated. But having a list of virtual and normal channels to EQ separately can be a powerful ...

I think it's safe to remove it. Virtual is already functioning and more intuitive. One question is, is it possible to make Virtual separately as some sort of toggle window rather than a preset? At the moment it works just as well as intended, but it's going to get a bit complicated when you mix it across multiple channels (for example, seven channels)

No problem. I'm not sure what to do. The virtual speakers feature now can do it all, mid side processing config and more. In principle we don't need the new mid side interface. On the other hand, it's nice to have. What do you think? Should I remove this new mid side interface or just leave it there?

Sorry for the late reply and check. I missed the mailing =( (Most of the mailing alerts me by mail, but there are times when I miss it, so I wanted to have a Discord channel in case of this) It is certainly more intuitive than previous knobs. And the functionality of the virtual channel is exactly the same as the purpose of the mid/side. I also like that i can choose shelf filter as i want, including the peaking filter. I think that's a good idea.

Btw. The default Peace icon (taskbar, etc.) can also be changed. Create an icon of 48 by 48 in a drawing app and save it under a file called 'icon.ico' by using the icon file format. Then place it in the subfolder 'Theme' as mentioned in my previous post. And if you like to have this same icon in the top right on the main Peace screen then also create an 'icon.png' file.

Thanks for the reply! No problem 😃 Okay, it seems that the "Activate at device selection" feature of Peace can do it all. Besides the creation of device/config pairs for "fallback" 1 default config needs to be created and "attached" to the proper devices. The colored/broken icons can be changed as a part of a theme. On the theme files page of the Peace website you'll find 2 icon themes as examples. 'ThemeIcons01' has icons with numbers, 'ThemeIcons02' is the same but in grey. A theme is placed in...

Thanks for the reply! Let me restate what I was looking for: I would like Peace to change configs on every device selection/change, either to a specific config if I set that up, or a config I set as "default" for devices that dont have an explicit Device/Config pair as a fallback. As for the icons, I was just talking about the config colored/"broken" icons not the core app icon. The manual way I am changing the icons works fine though!

Indeed having Peace configs (profiles) in the Always active list is the most easy way to set things up. But for your purpose to activate your default config the "Activate at device selection" tab is the way to go. There you "attach" this config to a device you want the default EQ on. When this device is then selected, either by you or by Windows itself, this config gets activated. And if you have selected a specific icon for this default config in the Save window then this icon will be shown in the...

Also mildly related: Is there an official way to swap/add icons for the tray? At present I just name the icon I want to use "iconpurple.ico" or whatever, drop it in the Peace folder, and set the icon to Read Only. That way, when Peace starts it is not overridden and is pulled into the app. I like having a custom Icon for each of my main devices, so I can see at a glance what is going on. Thanks!

Hello! I was wondering if there is a way to have a default/fallback EQ profile for when you switch to a device that you dont have a specific rule for. This would be beneficial to me as I would like to be able to read the current profile and state from the tray icon, but if I switch devices to a device I dont have a rule for, it does not revert to a default and thus the tray icon does not chance. I understand that I can effectively do the same in the Always On pane, and creating separate profiles...

After some thinking I came up with a better solution of setting up mid side processing in Peace. I've created the possibility to create and use virtual speakers (channels). This means for a mid side config (as you'll find attached) one can use the equalizer to its full extend instead of having only 2 sliders on the mid side interface (which I first made before the virtual speaker feature). Download version 1.6.7.7 and copy it and the attached config to c:\program files\equalizerapo\config. In the...

This is just my personal opinion, so don't take it too seriously. I know but I consider everything. That's how the Peace equalizer project works. I don't mind to take things a little serious. From my point of view it's awful to seen that Equalizer APO and related projects (excluding the AutoEQ project) are so rarely updated and badly supported. And they are good projects. Then again, not everyone is up for the commitment which I set myself to. And that's perfectly understandable. such as a I guess...

Yes. This is just my personal opinion, so don't take it too seriously. =) I mention this because the developers of programs like EQ APO, Hesuvi, and others rarely update actively at this point, whereas you are so receptive to feedback. I'm curious to see what others think. In addition to these UIs and equalizers, there are other things that other people have been looking for, such as a

But the sad part is that most of those people don't seem to leave a lot of comments, and while I'd love to hear what they have to say, I don't think I'm the only geek who comes to a feature request and talks to them. =( I'm in the fortunate position of having to deal with thousands of comments. That have let me to a position that there isn't an all-fits-all solution. But I think there is room for improvement of the current Peace or any other similar app for that matter. But I have to say I struggle...

Yes. You're right. I know graph EQ, and the way it's visualized is pretty good, similar to how it looks in most DAWs and VSTs. But that's a visual thing, and as I wrote in a previous comment, I prefer the look of REW's filters the most. (So I'm more comfortable adjusting the configuration directly in APO, like this: Filter: ON PK Fc 16000 Hz Gain -9 dB Q 2 (very personal). And again, I agree. Most people don't like complexity - they like "one-click solutions" best. Simple. But the sad part is that...

Discord :) I think people don't like complicated, and whether they'd understand graphs is another matter. Of course, there is always the manual. But we all know about manuals!

So you need more feedback!(Such as ASR,Headfi, Reddit, Discord ...etc) =) Even if a majority of people on these forums will come to a (static) effects panel layout (and this is a big If) then a minority wants something else. I think the obvious solution is an effect panel on which the user can select his/hers most important effect (s). Haven't you used the Peace graph for EQ-ing? Once you have clicked on a graph handle (by checking the right checkbox below left) this handle can be moved by mouse...

One problem is that there isn't a mutual agreement of the most important effects. For instance, some want the bass to be the first knob, others want cross feeding as the intend to use the headphones only. I do can say that stereo widening, expander and echo aren't used much. You are right. What you need and prefer will really vary from person to person. So you need more feedback!(Such as ASR,Headfi, Reddit, Discord ...etc) =) Do you prefer sliders and frequency input fields as on the main equalizer...

Unfortunately I can't remove the existing upmix and downmix stuff from the main effects panel. These are already being used and work a little bit differently then the stuff on the new Upmix panel. But indeed this effects panel does look a bit messy.
