No

pcmanfm 1.2.5
Arch Linux Kernel: 4.13.8-1, but this happens on my Debian installation as well

How to reproduce:

  1. Start a gnome session
  2. Enable desktop icons using gnome-tweak-tool
  3. Now you can't cut and paste files in pcmanfm

Cut and paste works with other file-managers such as nemo, so this leads me to believe this is a bug in pcmanfm.

I met the same error under lxqt. Is this right place to open a defect? No any updates until now.

    This still happens with 1.3.0.

    Same.

    Copy doesn't work.

I need to drag & drop to move files. Paste works when files are copied from another files manager (tested nautilus). Cut from another files manager works too.
Pasting in another file manager doesn't work.
Pasting as text doesn't work. (With Nautilus, pasting as text pastes a newline-sparated list of file paths.)

This seems to be fixed now under Gnome 3.30, so maybe it was a Gnome/Nautilus issue after all.
Maybe somebody else can confirm, but I believe this can be closed.

@PaveThem, I doubt was the case. I've been using nautilus as an alternative to pcmanfm due to this issue, and there was no problem with it even with gnome libraries prior to 3.30.

Furthermore, I tested both alternatives available in Arch Linux for pcmanfm, pcmanfm (based on GTK2) and pcmanfm-gtk3 (Based on GTK3 ), and both alternatives have this issue, at least from August until today.

So I guess is mostly related to pcmanfm.

I seem to have the same or at least very similar issue in a fresh Lubuntu 18.10 installation. Moving a file by drag and drop (then choosing "move here") fails most of the times. But (when I try very often) sometimes it works!

Totally agree. Hard to find a decent file manager. Nautilus, dolhin, nemo etc etc all have problems. I hope pacmanfm can be fixed...this is so fundamental.

I recently upgraded my Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04, mostly because I was getting annoyed that PCManFM kept crashing, and I read that it was fixed in the newer versions.
It no longer crashes (hasn't crashed since the upgrade, several weeks ago), but this issue of not being able to cut and paste (in any folder or drive), is almost more annoying. Please fix it urgently!

It would be perfect if someone found the source of the problem. Unfortunately I'm permamently running out of free time to experiment with this. :(

    Hi,

I'm on Ubuntu 18.04 running Gnome Desktop 3.28.4 with PCManFM 1.3.1 from your ppa.

I'm running into the same problem as soon as I activate "Show Icons" on desktop in Gnome Tweaks. As long as it is disabled, copy/cut and paste works fine. So it seems, the desktop extension and PCManFM interfere in some way…
