Hi, I'm sorry to bother you again with a new release :-) but there were some new enhencements and bug fixes that I can't keep for my own. This release reconfigures the trackpad much faster after typing on the keyboard to prevent the cursor from unintentionally movements. Furtheron pbbuttonsd uses the laptop-mode-tools package from Bart Samwel now if installed. The internally laptopmode.sh script will only be used as fallback. I sent a patch to Bart so that we hopefully get native pbbuttonsd support with his next release of laptop-mode-tools. Some fixes for bugs collected in the debian bugtracker and some not recorded there as well as an extended and revised documentation completes this release. Downloads as ususal at http://pbbuttonsd.sourceforge.net Best Regards Matthias |

hmm, okay. i don't know much about the g3s temperature sensors -- but they aren't very good (os x stopped checking them since 10.3.2). my pb doesn't seem to get critically hot. just of paranoia i want to be able to start the fan manually (or trigger it when the cpu was very active during some specified time) -- therefor I guess a userlevel tool should be better. Do you have a hint where i can read about the pb fan control ? is it also controlled by the pmu? thanks regards stef |

I would see this feature in the kernel because I wouldn't rely on a user space tool that might not be installed or launched at boot time. That seems too risky for me. New processors are able to tell the kernel that they are going hot and therefore the kernel must be able to cool it down again either through a fan, reducing the core voltage or decreasing the CPU frequency. Nevertheless I'm interested in any information you will get regarding this topic. Best Regards Matthias |

So that handles either constant typing or > constant press. Maybe you can do like that too? I created a patch based on the last release 0.6.8 that disables the trackpad also if the key is hold (repeat). Furtheron the trackpad is disabled now as soon the first key is pressed. In the current release the trackpad is disabled with the first key release for technical reasons. This technical reasons makes is necessary to restructure the trackpad code a bit. The trackpad will be reconfigured as soon as someone requests. In the past pbbuttonsd waited the ADB bus to be inactive before programming the trackpad. For the keyboard it is necessary to wait for the ADB bus but I haven't discovered any side effects with the trackpad yet. Please report any problems and send a notice too when you have no problems at all :-) Best Regards |

Hi folks, I have just released PowerPrefs 0.4.9 This release is adapted to handle all the new options of PBButtonsd 0.6.8 including ALSA and OSS mixer configuration and the new 'NoTapTyping' option, which disables trackpad's mouse click emulation while typing on a keyboard. This release is available at: http://pbbuttons.sourceforge.net Have fun Matthias |

Hi folks, Finally it's done - PBButtonsd 0.6.8 has been released This release could be configured to detect the active mixer automatically. The trackpad mouse click emulation will be temporarely switched off while typing on the keyboard. Furtheron a new configuration manager has been introduced so that modules can always be configured wether they are active or not. No configuration option will be lost anymore. The pbblib now accepts unlimited number of clients. A client is now able to tell the server what should happen if the client has been launched twice. Last but not least some minor bugs have been fixed and I hope no new ones have been implemented :-) The release is available at: http://pbbuttonsd.sourceforge.net Have fun Matthias |

Hi, As consequence of the high number of critical bugs in the last release I publish a beta release first this time: PBButtonsd 0.6.8beta1 available at: http://pbbuttons.sourceforge.net This beta release has got a new internal configuration file management which allows to save options of inactive modules too. This becomes necessary with introduction of the ALSA mixer module. Beside this the mixer could be automatically detected at startup, the tapping of the trackpad could be temporarely disabled while typing on the keyboard and last but not least some minor bugs have been fixed. This is a beta release and should be used for testing only. Please play with it and report any bugs or comments to me or to the pbbuttons mailing list. Best Regards Matthias |

On Tue, 1 Mar 2005 09:58:54 +0000 (UTC) Joerg Sommer <jo...@al...> wrote: Hi, following feature has been added to pbbuttonsd: The trackpad will be reconfigured to 'notap' while typing. The old trackpad mode is restored after roundabout 0.6 seconds. This seems a good value to me also for people using the two finger typing method (like me :-)) and who is not so fast in typing. This feature is only availabe from CVS (on sourceforge.net) for test and it is not configurable yet. This may change before next release and depends on users feedback. Pbbuttonsd can't replace mouseemu. Although mouseemu uses some of pbbuttonsd original code and routines, its excellent features can't be integrated easily. Anyway, some people think pbbuttonsd is 'fat' enough and needs no more features. ;-) The latest feature extension simply reconfigures the trackpad hardware to its 'move only' or 'notap' mode. This is pretty simple but works also with kernel 2.4. Please test the feature and have an eye on possible conflicts with mouseemu. Thanks and best Regards Matthias |

Dear All i've installed Ubuntu Hoary on my iBook 500 MHz with ati rage 128 M3 graphical card. Works ok. I now have suspend/resume working (i hope...), sound works right out of the box with Ubuntu (!). The last thing for me is using the external vga out. I've installed the latest pbbuttons (0.6.7a) but alas CTRL-SPACE does not make my external monitor work. What should i do? BTW the changelog file of powerprefs talks about a version that is newer then what is available on the page... Help would be very much appreciated Regards Rein van den Boomgaard |

Hi, I'm sorry about the trouble with the last pbbuttonsd release. The new release fixes the serious bugs that caused the segfaults. The support for multiple mixer modules brought some difficulties that are not completely solved yet, but I think most of you won't miss anything. Please see file BUGS for details. * Sorry if this is a duplicate send. I didn't receive confirmation that my email went through when I sent this yesterday. * I am running Ubuntu Linux on my Powerbook (all details and specs below). pbbuttonsd is installed and running. My eject, volume, and brightness keys all function properly. When I try to adjust the backlit keyboard (F8 - F10 keys), nothing happens. When I go in a dark room, the keyboard does not light. This functionality did work with pbbuttonsd on Yellow Dog Linux 4. When I try to use powerprefs to modify the settings, the backlit keyboard portion is "greyed out". I have read that pbbuttonsd needs the i2c-keywest and i2c-dev kernel modules. i2c-keywest is compiled into the kernel. When I modprobe i2c-dev, the module loads. I then do a stop/start of pbbuttonsd and open powerprefs again. This time it the backlit keyboard is no longer greyed out. If I try to set the keys to F8 - F10, it doesn't see input. The backlit keyboard also does not function in a dark room. Any ideas or help would greatly be appreciated. This is the last thing I need to get working (aside from the built-in Airport Express which I think is hopeless right now). So far, Ubuntu is the best Linux distribution for PPC I have used; much better then Yellow Dog 3 or 4. For the most part, everything worked out of the box, including sound. Yellow Dog couldn't even make sound work. OS: Ubuntu 5.04 "Hoary Hedgehog" Kernel: 2.6.10-2-powerpc * All the latest packackages and updates have been applied. Hi, Gtkpbbuttons 0.6.5 has been released. This release has got a new popup window for external video. Furthermore the GNOME session support was broken in former versions and has been fixed. In this context Gtkpbbuttons uses libpopt for command line evaluation now to avoid conflicts with GNOME. Some small bugfixes complete this release http://pbbuttons.sourceforge.net/ Best regards Matthias |

Hi, PBButtonsd 0.6.7 has been released, This release has got a brand new native ALSAmixer module (Thanks to John Steele Scott for his contribution). If both mixer modules were compiled in you could set the sound system to be used in the configuration file. As second highlight on supported graphics cards the external video output could be switched on/off with a hotkey (m*mirror). Furthermore a spanish translation was added (Thanks to Rudy Godoy) and the brightness level will be automatically resync'ed after it has been changed outside of pbbuttonsd. Last but not least a design flaw regarding character sets has been removed. http://pbbuttons.sourceforge.net/ Best Regards Matthias |
