Thanks to the explanations of developers, it is my understanding that 'empty groups' are managed separately to database items. Also, they are tracked and 'exist' only at the time of the group's creation and for only as long as it remains empty.

I first submitted the following which may not be an actual bug but rather the result of a specific implementation of group handling:
https://sourceforge.net/p/passwordsafe/bugs/1327/

This ticket asks that upon the deletion of the last item within a group, or moving out of the group the last item, an empty group is created as to maintain the illusion of explorer-like behavior of folder management.

Thanks to all involved!

I tried this new feature out in 3.39pre in windows 8.1.

If I delete the last entry in the group, it will be shown as a empty grou in the tree view as expected for this FR, however, if instead of deleting the last entry in the group, I move the last entry out of the group, the group disappears. I had expected it would also be shown as a empty group.

Also, I did not see how to delete an empty group if I wanted to. Right clicking and selecting 'Delete Group' doesn't get rid of it.

I can confirm that in release V3.39 (g315677), with WIndows 10, I cannot delete an empty group. If I press DEL with an empty group selected either nothing happens or a popup comes up asking confirmation yet nothing is apparently deleted when YES is pressed; database file size is not always same before and after.

In a group that only contains an empty group: I do not seem to get the popup when pressing DEL on the sub group, but get the confirmation popup when pressing DEL with the parent (and otherwise empty) group.
