I think that it's a good idea to standardize on cropped TIFFs, and keep
other formats separate.  The one format which I'd love to see from the
PTools side is multi-layer TIFF (which is essentially just a bunch of
cropped TIFFs glued together).  Nona outputs this and it is very useful
(though less so because Gimp can't edit them and save; I believe cinepaint
can however).
