I just installed the software, and it will not load ref error log:

This problem is very unusual and since is a JVM problem we don't know a way to solve it without having the need to do some tests first.

First of all, can you say when does this problem occur? Right after you try to execute OptFlux? Does the application splash appears or it crashes before that?

In Windows and Linux OptFlux uses the JRE present in the application folder to execute. Our first suggestion is to use the Java present in your machine. For you to do that please replace the “main.conf” present in the conf folder with the one in the attachment.

In this file we also add more memory to the VM.

Please try that and tell us if worked or not.

I've tried both versions, and the program completes installation, but never loads (a brief cmd window opens and closes ~1sec). The log files are visible as .log, and that is where I found this information.

I'm using windows 10 64bit. I've 16gb physical ram and 20gb virtual designated on my ssd.

After replacing the file you indicated the optflux.log.err is:
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx4096m
The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size.

The error message "Invalid maximum heap size" is actually very strange.
Can you print what you "java -version" command in the cmd shows?
Just to know which java version you have in your machine.

And also replace your current "run.bat" file with the one in the attachment.
Remember that you still need to replace the "main.conf" file we suggest in the previous message.

With both theses files we are using only the java present in your machine and ignoring completely the java present in the OptFlux folder.

Please tell us if the problem was fixed and also the java information.

the optflux.log and jsbml.log files are empty, and I've not generated a new hs_err_pid log since replacing the conf file

Based on your java version we believe that you have installed the Java 8 32bit and because of that the "Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx4096m" message is shown. Java 32bit only allows 1024m to the JVM.

With these we can give you two options:
1- Replace your current java version to a 64bit since your machine is also 64bit. We advise you to do this not only because of OptFlux but also all other Java applications you use or want to use in the future.

2- Keep your java version and follow this link: http://darwin.di.uminho.pt/optfluxwiki/index.php/KnownProblems:LowMemory and reduce the available memory from 4096m to 1024m. This value is he one present in the main.conf file we sent, the original file has already 1024m.

Please try one of these options and tell us if it worked.

I downloaded and tried all the current windows versions of java, and the offline 64 bit was the only that got the program to load. So all looks well so far. Going through the updates prompted upon loading right now.

I attempted replacing the bat and conf files you provided again, and there was no change.

Please replace the main.conf file again. This happens because some plugin updates also update those files and it replaced the one you used in the beginning.

The "post awaiting moderation" is killing the speed of this. It loaded after java update, updated plugins, then didnt load. I have since already tried reswapping the two files you provided earlier out with no change.

This is very strange. Lets recap just to see if we are skipping something important.

• You installed the java 64bit version right? If you do "java -version" it will show something like:
  ... Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM ...
  Make sure it shows 64-Bit Server VM and not Client VM because you can have more than one java installed in your machine but only one associated to the java command;

• You also installed OptFlux for windows 64Bit, the one from this link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/optflux/files/LatestRelease/OptFlux-3.3.3-windows-x64-installer.exe/download

• After both these steps you execute OptFlux and did run until you perform the plugins update right?
  Did you needed to replace both files we talked or the application was executed without the exchange?

If you needed to replaced the files in the first time then after the plugin update you must replace them again and it should work.

If after all these steps and the plugins update the application still don't work then we have to say to skip the updates and try to work in the version you installed.
We can't understand the problem you have encountered and unfortunately we cannot help more then this so at least you can execute the latest OptFlux release version so we will hope the next release will fix you problem.

I just redownloaded from that link. It installs to the x86 program files directory. Loaded immediately. Let it update again just to be sure that was the issue (updated simulation and core plugins). Reloaded successfully. I think the issue was somewhere with the java versions, and the replaced files after i swapped java versions. So, taking your suggestion and changing the java version allowed functionality to exist from the standard install files. Thanks.
