Dear Christian, First of all, thank you so much for your reply, I have got some results which want to disclose with you. It may help to solve the problem.... First, the very strange behaviour of P1i is that as I mentioned before, it doesn't list SyncML in its services when I issue "sdptool browse $MAC" command, so I guessed that it doesn't support SyncML over BT, but when I typed "sdptool search SYNCML", sdptool said that my cell phone privodes SyncML service on channel 3 !!! In your opinion, is it a normal behaviour? After ensuring that my cell phone provides the service I want over BT, I tested both syncml-http-server and syncml-obex-client, but none of them worked :-( When I use syncml-http-server, the cell phone prompts "Connected", but after awhile, it prompts "Cannot Communicate with SyncML Server (The connection failed before completion)". I checked all of settings like username and password, database names and .... times and times. but the problem remains. In the other hand, when I use syncml-obex-client with different parameters(different versions, with and without libwbxml and ....) my computer says "BT Connection Error" and my cell phone says "SyncMLAgent closed with error code 13". After surfing the web, one guy exactly has had the same problem (http://www.nabble.com/Sony-Ericsson-P1i-:-problems-with-syncml-obex-client-td18959082.html) but no one answered to him yet :-( In your opinion, is it because of my cell phone firmware? Is it solved if I update its firmware, Sincerely yours, Habib Seifzadeh ----- Original Message ---- > From: Christian Hilgers <Chr...@co...> > To: ope...@li... > Sent: Friday, December 12, 2008 2:21:17 PM > Subject: Re: [Opensync-users] Connecting to Mobile over USB Cable > > Habib Seifzadeh schrieb: > > > But why I need such a command: My cell phone is Sony Ericcson P1i, It's > > said that it supports SyncML protocol, but this service isn't in the > > output of sdptool browse command. P1i is known to support only SyncML 1.2 over IP. I do not know how to do IP over USB with Linux. I assume you use Linux as you mention sdptool. That means you need to use syncml-http-server. Search for P990i in the wiki and follow the suggestions. If possible, the using IP over BT will be the less painfull. Also use the latest libwbxml and OpenSync from trunk. For the initial tests please use syncml-ds-tool. Hi dear friends, As almost all of us know, for browsing the blue-tooth services which a cell phone provides, it suffices to type: sdptool browse $MAC, where $MAC can be obtained using hcitool scan. But, how can I find the services which my mobile provides over USB Cable? Are there any commands similar to sdptool and hcitool for USB connection? But why I need such a command: My cell phone is Sony Ericcson P1i, It's said that it supports SyncML protocol, but this service isn't in the output of sdptool browse command. Therefore, I guess that it provides SyncML only over USB? So I need a command similar to sdptool to ensure that my cell phone provides the required service and also obtain the proper address and channel number. Cheers, Habib Seifzadeh |

Hi list! I'm using opensync version 0.22 with the kdepim plugin and kontact (kaddressbook in version 4.1) and synce on the other side to my Win Mobile phone with activesync. All work very well after I found out that my knotes version threw an error while syncing and I deactivated notes. But yesterday, after weeks of usage, I recognized, that the sync of my addresses doesn't work as well as thought: All contacts are added at my smartphone, but neither the private phone number nor any addresses are visible. I compared the vcards (version 3.0 both) generated by the smartphone and by kaddressbook and found out, that the TYPE parameter differs. While kaddressbook has "TEL;TYPE=HOME:01234567", the export of my smartphone has "TEL;TYPE=HOME;TYPE=VOICE:01234567". While kaddressbook shows the numbers imported from the smartphone (with label "home/voice"), my smartphone can't use the data of kaddressbook. The mobile phone numbers are shown correct on the smartphone (after sync FROM the smartphone, they are shown as "voice/mobile" but that doesn't hurt) I don't know, what's the right syntax, and a short view in the RFC didn't show if there is any rule, but the problem exists. So my question is, is there a way to solve such problems without recoding a whole plugin? E.g. is there a functionality to use a external tool or a list of regular expressions to replace those passages, a sort of pre send filter? Or do you have any other tip for me? That should be when 0.40 is closer to stable. I am subscribed to the list and wil try to keep abreast of developments. Thanks for the detailed report. It is good to know that development of Opensync is serious, as so many other sync frameworks have been abandoned in the years that I have been using KDE. -- Dotan Cohen http://what-is-what.com http://gibberish.co.il א-ב-ג-ד-ה-ו-ז-ח-ט-י-ך-כ-ל-ם-מ-ן-נ-ס-ע-ף-פ-ץ-צ-ק-ר-ש-ת ا-ب-ت-ث-ج-ح-خ-د-ذ-ر-ز-س-ش-ص-ض-ط-ظ-ع-غ-ف-ق-ك-ل-م-ن-ه-و-ي А-Б-В-Г-Д-Е-Ё-Ж-З-И-Й-К-Л-М-Н-О-П-Р-С-Т-У-Ф-Х-Ц-Ч-Ш-Щ-Ъ-Ы-Ь-Э-Ю-Я а-б-в-г-д-е-ё-ж-з-и-й-к-л-м-н-о-п-р-с-т-у-ф-х-ц-ч-ш-щ-ъ-ы-ь-э-ю-я ä-ö-ü-ß-Ä-Ö-Ü |

So this is already pretty close - isn't it? It's not about the missing communication between the KDE team or the OpenSync Team. It's just about that OpenSync is not ready! (This got also mentioned in your linked thread two times) The user expection for 0.40 a way too high - we will not meet them since they're quite "utopistic". The 0.40 release will not be a "everything works out of the box"-release. It's a: "we surivied a development-branch"-release. If we would ship 0.40 today - and quickly adapt KitchenSync to have something in KDE 4.2, then people would get pretty annoyed about KDE/KitchenSync/OpenSync and freedesktop in general, due to the lack of quality of synchronization. And will never look back to KitchenSync or OpenSync since the very first impression is what counts. If the very first contact with OpenSync/KitchenSync ends-up in: - that your mobile gets unusable - your calendar/addressbook is full of duplicates Please understand that this kind of implementation needs pretty strong QA and only a complete implementation is worth to release as "stable". Right now there only fews plugins using "capabilities" to avoid duplicates. It's totally dangerous to sync anything without _full_ capabilities support - dataloss or duplicates are guaranteed. Since we don't have yet much real-life testing of the capabilities implementation, just unit-tests, we might need to change the plugin and the frontend API. So that's why the frontend development and the plugin development gets regularly starved. I hope this gives pretty much a picture whats going on. Since we slipped already several month we decided to only concentrate on high-request plugins. KDEPIM3 and 4 (aka. akondai-sync) is among those - as evolution and SyncML is (and some more i would have to look up). Right now we try to draft the final API and freeze it. The only changes i plan to allow after 0.39 (the last release before 0.40 - the stable release) must be very critical. This could be changes to fit the capabilities/discovery for frontend and plugins. The SyncML plugin is the hottest capabilities/discovery candidate - for this we might need more changes in libsyncml to get everything out of DevInf, to avoid duplicate entries. There will be no 0.40 before this is done (due to needed API changes) Your help is more then appreciated - we have tons of task to do till 0.40. Like reviewing and documenting the public API and collecting 0.2x configuration and write XSLT conversion stylesheet for smooth OpenSync update from 0.2x to 0.40. Last but not least testing, testing and testing. best regards, Daniel |

Apparently the deadline for getting OpenSync into KDE-PIM for KDE 4.2 is approaching fast: http://www.nabble.com/KitchenSync-%2B-OpenSync-Deadline-to20719171.html Can OpenSync try to work more closely with the KDE team to ensure it's inclusion in KDE 4.2? I am really new to Linux. I have an HP iPaq 4700, I am using OpenSuSE 11.0. I have tried to follow the instructions for installation of SynCE and Opensync form source found at http://www.synce.org/moin/FrontPage. At this time I been able to execute odccm -f in a terminal window and the iPaq give an audible sound in response. When I then execute the sync-engine command I receive the following. I really am not sure where to begin except with the following. This is what appears in a terminal window when I plug the iPaq in: sync-engine SynCE sync-engine starting up 2008-11-24 09:27:41,283 DEBUG syncengine : running main loop 2008-11-24 09:27:41,283 DEBUG syncengine : creating SyncEngine object 2008-11-24 09:27:41,318 INFO engine.syncengine.kernel : __init__: connected device found 2008-11-24 09:27:41,318 INFO engine.syncengine.kernel : _CBDeviceConnected: device connected at path /org/synce/odccm/Device/_519C8972_FC36_432A_3929_95931CE09385_ 2008-11-24 09:27:41,323 INFO engine.syncengine.kernel : device Opus connected 2008-11-24 09:27:41,324 INFO engine.syncengine.kernel : ProcessAuth : processing authorization for device 'Opus' 2008-11-24 09:27:41,324 INFO engine.syncengine.kernel : ProcessAuth: authorization not required for device 'Opus' 2008-11-24 09:27:41,325 DEBUG engine.syncengine.kernel : OnConnect: setting up RAPI session Segmentation fault As new as I am to all of this I must apologize to Guido Diepen for going around the protocol and contacting him directly. The frustration level unfortunately reached a rather hig level. Guido graciously replied with the following: Three things: * Do you have a firewall set up under linux? -- Yes but it is not running. * Does synce-pls work for you? (or pls, synce-pls is the command name for ubuntu/debian) -- No. Tried both although I am using Open SuSE 11.0 In my limited understanding of how this is all supposed to work I sense that tthe iPaq "Opus" is being recognized by "Rex" the HP laptop. But that something isn't completing in this process. When I then try to run sync-kpm-0.11.1 the following displays: ERROR:dbus.connection:Exception in handler for D-Bus signal: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/dbus/connection.py", line 214, in maybe_handle_message self._handler(*args, **kwargs) File "/home/chrisg/Downloads/synce-kpm-0.11.1/synceKPM/gui/guiDbus.py", line 256, in handleDeviceAuthorized dataServer = self.busConn.get_object("org.synce.kpm.dataserver","/org/synce/kpm/DataServer") File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/dbus/bus.py", line 244, in get_object follow_name_owner_changes=follow_name_owner_changes) File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/dbus/proxies.py", line 241, in __init__ self._named_service = conn.activate_name_owner(bus_name) File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/dbus/bus.py", line 183, in activate_name_owner self.start_service_by_name(bus_name) File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/dbus/bus.py", line 281, in start_service_by_name 'su', (bus_name, flags))) File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages/dbus/connection.py", line 607, in call_blocking message, timeout) DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.synce.kpm.dataserver was not provided by any .service files We have got a problem.... Hello Opensync Developers, I've been watching the progress of Opensync ever since I purchased my Motorola SVLR L9 mobile phone. Through the Wiki and Googling I see that Andrew Baumann has been the main developer for the moto-sync plugin. I've also notices the Steve Wolters (sp?) had jumped in for a time. Unfortunately, is seems that both Andrew and Steve don't have the time available to continue working on this part of the project. (But please correct me if I am wrong about this) I'd like to jump in and help if I may. My main interest, of course, is getting Opensync to work with my mobile. As far as I can tell this would mean work in three areas: 1.) Porting moto-sync to the 0.3x 2.) Implementing necessary upgraders for the SVLR L9 3.) Fixing bugs I'm not a Python developer but using using the existing code as an example I think I can get up to speed fairly quickly. I've already done some fiddling around and have "unofficially" fixed a few bugs ( e.g http://opensync.org/ticket/775 ). If I can be of some help in this regard, let me know how I should proceed. Thanks Andrew Potter |

Sorry for the late reply. The resources were not defined in the opie-sync configuration as required. I have just fixed the file in OpenSync SVN to have the right definitions, so it should at least discover correctly. Unfortunately there are other issues past that point which I am working on at the moment. To fix your setup after updating to latest SVN either create a new group, or edit your opie configuration and copy and paste in the <Resources> section from the plugins/opie-sync/opie-sync file. The problem is that the libwbxml on 8.04 is really outdated. Perhaps the easiest way is to ask Samm on IRC what he did because he use 8.04 and finally its Nokia works since Tuesday. #opensync at irc.freenode.net Best regards Michael -- _______________________________________________________________ Michael Bell Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin Tel.: +49 (0)30-2093 2482 ZE Computer- und Medienservice Fax: +49 (0)30-2093 2704 Unter den Linden 6 mic...@cm... Hi Michael, Thanks for a quick reply. Will this patch also find its way to Ubuntu Hardy (8.04 LTS)? Hi Stefan, until Tuesday nearly all Nokia S40 devices did not work with libsyncml because of a bug in libwbxml. The patch for libwbxml is on the way into the distros. You can see it at http://opensync.org/~bellmich/libwbxml/. This is no Nokia and no libsyncml bug. Actually we started an effort to get a more community based libwbxml maintenance approach.
