I have used Opensong for many years. I recently installed 2.1.2 on a new laptop running Windows 8. When I wanted to create a new song I got the error message: "File could not be created", with no explanation why.
Yesterday we had a problem running Opensong on our church laptop running Windows 8, as it was running really slowly. This may have been caused by the HEUM trojan, which I discovered and removed this morning with the antivirus program. I also did a tune-up, but Opensong still did not run properly. I therefore uninstalled it, downloaded 2.1.2 and reinstalled the program. I then tried to create a song, but after enetring the name of the song got the message: File could not be created C:\Program Files\OpenSong Data\Songs\I am happy (12).
I then tried to create a Set and got the similar message: File could not be created C:\Program Files\OpenSong Data\Sets\8 January 2018 (12).
Can you tell me what is causing the problem, and how I can fix it?

Sorry, the church laoptop is now running Windows 10, not 8, as I typed above.
The filename indicates that you have OpenSong set up to store the songs, sets, and other data under the Program Files folder. This is where applications are installed, and it is typically not used for user data. Normal users cannot write to files in Program Files, so if you really want to store your data there you need to run OpenSong with Administrator priviliges (right-click on the program icon, select "Run as Administrator"). Otherwise, you'll need to go to the OpenSong General Preferences page and select a new location for the data. That will require a program restart to take effect, and you will need to manually move the data.
Also, the current build of OpenSong has a known performance issue under Windows 10 when the presentation is set so that a border is selected for the font. You can either turn the border off or look through here for the discussion about a Windows setting that you can tweak until we can get a build that eliminates this posted for download.

Thanks for this explanation Ed. I will work on this again tomorrow (South African time) as it's getting late. I remember that on my previous computers the data loaded naturally into an OpenSong folder under Documents. That made everything very easy. I have recently loaded 1.2.1 onto 3 different computers with Win 7, 8 and 10 and in each case the data folders have turned up in different locations, which has totally confused me. I'll look at them all tomorrow and see if I can set the General Preferences to put everything where I used to find it when I first downloaded OpenSong onto the church computer and my home computer more than a decade ago as far as I recall and eveything worked like a dream.
keeps telling me that C:/Program Files/OpenSong/OpenSong Data/Sets/the(12) everytime l want to create a new song or schedule.
