We don't have everything documented, but we do have FAQs, mailing  
list archives, etc..  The troubleshooting FAQ would be a good start:

Check out  the answer for "OpenNMS 1.2.x won't start on a Linux  
system, I get 'Could not initialize IcmpSocket' errors".  That should  
take care of your problem.

But, before you fix it, I have two questions:

	1) What version of OpenNMS are you running?

	2) What does "/opt/OpenNMS/bin/runjava -r -- -version" return?
