Yes, you can put a small resistor in series with it -- a non-wound one. I used a couple of SMD components (capacitor and resistor). As far as I remember from previous discussions, it is best to get the ESR approximately right, and putting a resistor in series is fine. I have no idea about DC-DC converters (not my field!!).
