Hey,
I really like you app! I just thought, a thing that I've never seen in a camera app is an integrated QR code scanner. I hate to install an extra app just for that functionality.
If you could hightlight QR codes found by the camera and if I tap on them, the data is shown it would be great!
Maybe you have time for that...
My best wishes,
Falk

I've been reluctant to add this due to there being plenty of applications that do this - although it would save people installing an extra application, the flip side is that it risks bloating the size of Open Camera anyway.
Also note that many phones can do this now - e.g., on mine (OnePlus), pressing and holding Home whilst viewing a QR code in Open Camera brings up Assistant, which can parse the QR code. So that seems the best of both worlds - it works with whatever camera application people want to use, and doesn't require any extra code.

The home button bringing up the assistant is neat, but a bit annoying since even when holding the phone vertically, phone thinks it's in landscape mode, and so the navigation bar and assistant are sideways oriented the wrong way from the way the screen is oriented.
I do not have OpenCamera locked to either orientation.

I see what you mean - I'm sure it used to be easier when I wrote that, pressing the home button would automatically see there was a QR code and scan it. Now it brings up the annoying (imo) text/voice entry for assistant, and even when I type "what's on my screen" it can't understand it.

I simply press the frame icon, then Google Assistant frames the barcode just as it used to. The only added step is pressing the frame icon. I also don't have any screen orientation issues.

This workaround eases my desire for OpenCamera to have a qrcode shortcut, as AOSP distrbutions do currently not bring an assistant with themselves to do this. I wondered if OC should be able to detect an external barcode scanning app and offer a shortcut as to its Capture Activity in https://imgur.com/a/OBuqlT9.

another +1 for QR code functionality. I do not use the Google Assistant at all. I would love to just be able to open OC and point it at a QR code to see it's details.

Since many people are pointing the fact that this can lead to bloating up of the app, how about adding a button to open google lens from inside the app? Just a small button beside the shutter button, which can be toggled too. This would be much better than making your own implementation of a QR code scanner.
Or how about a button inside the app which, on pressing, opens another app set by the user (for eg, a QR scanner app, or Google Lens), this can be a cool addition too!

+1 to add some QR functionality. The reason there are so many is not all of them are GOOD. I will have OpenCamera on all my devices. And sometimes i need to take pictures of labels that dont scan correctly. Having a single high quality camera ap with basical QR/Barcode would be amazing for me.

+1 too, I use Open raCame and it'll eb nice to have the QR scan and stop installing additional app for this. It could be an option to enable or disable :)

+1 Would be great as many people have a hardware button that can be quickly invoked to launch OpenCamera. Being able to scan a QR code qith a default app in seconds would be great

+1. I'd love to have QR reading within Open Camera rather than having to install another app for the occasional time that I need to scan a QR code.

+1 for QR reader. I just installed this app over my default Motorola camera I did like in my stock app with the ability to scan QR codes

A better way etttoeimOproverpenCamera When most of the camera apps don't have inbuilt QR code reading, if open camera has it, it will be of great advantage to gain more installations, it's a really useful growing necessity

I simply start the 'QR Scanner (Privacy Friendly)' https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.secuso.privacyFriendlyCodeScanner/ when I need to scan or create a QR code or scan a Bar code.
with https://f-droid.org/de/packages/com.abast.homebot/ you can register an App activity (not just Launch but any) to the home button. I chose this to set to binaryeyes CameraActivity.
