Last year I installed OpenBTS on a VirtualBox virtual machine. With that setup, test tone and echo call was working fin but I had no audio between two phones.


In other words, I had the same symptoms that you describe.


Are you using VirtualBox?

Thank you for your answer. I have read the thread you linked me.
I have an Ettus USRP E110 which means it is embedded and all the OpenBTS components are running on the device itself, so it is not a problem of a virtual/physical server.

My problem manifests the same as Heiko Rehm explained in his thread.



"Instead of any Audio - total silence. After a few seconds, the call get
dropped (I guess thats some normal silence detection watchdog)"


The thing is I can hear sound from demo extensions from Asterisk (calling 600, 2600, etc.)

I thought the problem resided with the noise value. Does the distance from the handsets to the station have anything to do with it?

Is it more related to Asterisk?

I can't figure where should I look for the problem.

For the Noise RSSI, the value makes no sense. But if you can place a call between two phones, then I don't think the problem is related to RF Noise.

Hi all,

I am a student currently studying OpenBTS. I have an Ettus USRP E110.
I have installed OpenBTS 5.0 according to the steps listed on the OpenBTS wiki:

I have successfully attached 2 MS to the BTS and placed a call to the 600 extension on asterisk and also between them. The problem is that there is no sound between the 2 MS.


The output of the noise command is strange and I think it has something to do with it:

OpenBTS> noise
noise RSSI is -2147483647<tel:2147483647> dB wrt full scale
MS RSSI target is -50 dB wrt full scale
INFO: the current noise level is acceptable

OpenBTS> power
current downlink power -10 dB wrt full scale


Also, OsmoTRX starts with the following message which is repeated periodically. Is this normal or something to worry about?

NOTICE 111716960 10:39:28:3 Transceiver.cpp:404:pushRadioVector: dumping STALE burst in TRX -> USRP interface.

Can anyone help me? If you need additional info, I will provide it.
