USRP1 must be connected via USB and need to use a lot of USRP1 bandwidth. When you your VMWARE or other virtualization systems the USB device is bridged and at least for my personal testing it does not work. I tried OpenBTS in Ubuntu with Vmware (tried also VirtualBOX) on MacBook with Mac OS X. No luck, had to deal directly on a phisical linux machine.
