hi there, you're right in the sense that it's discouraging to not be sure that your work is not being stepped by other people, but in the last months (since I'm in the project) there's no such problem (specially since we're using that roadmap [1] to know what eveybody is doing), and every time that somebody asks for things to do in the art dept. we give them things that nobody else is doing. instead, the main problem is that we run out of available things to do because people say that it's going to do something and suddenly disappears without saying a word. in example with the world maps, kayvan doesn't count because he's having problems with his ISP and he said so; but nobody saw IoX for months, and I recall that somebody asked for other places (the Dam at least) but disappeared in a couple of days, so we didn't even put that in that roadmap page. so we ran out of fully designed areas, and nobody except PJ is really working on them. something similar happened with weapons and tools: Larry came up with that hammer and the axe, there were some complaints about not being good enough, and after that we (Larry himself and me) made a list of weapons so other people could pick some of that models and begin to do them (as has been said, doing some weapons is not hard), at least 2 or 3 people that I can recall asked for things to do and we told him to begin with that simple things, and they did nothing at the moment. as a consequence of this (if people disappear): - there's no way to assure any kind of organization as you say, so people can be stepped by other people if they came 3 months later with something done. chances are, though, that these people don't do anything while they are away, so no work is stepped at all. - there's no way for people managing the whole project (currently devels are doing something like this, with the releases and knowing the possibilities of the engine) can't foreseen the next steps of the global development, what are the priorities and so on. in example we still don't have much experience about how to do connect areas effectively, because we still don't know how much memory uses a complete area with buildings and objects, and so on. this is one of the reasons why, at this point, I was sending that mail: it's a kind of spring cleaning, we remove from that page people not being active for a long time and assign it to new people who asks for them, and try to do some plans for the near future :) regards.
